India, US Air Forces exercise Ex Cope India-2018
Air Forces of India and US began their 12-day joint exercise “Ex Cope India-2018” in West Bengal. It is fourth edition in series of bilateral joint exercise held by Air Forces of two nations conducted in India.
Important
This edition of exercise is aimed at providing operational exposure to air force personnel of both countries and undertake mutual exchange of best practices for enhancing operational capability. It will be focused on enhancing US-Indian mutual cooperation and building on existing capabilities, aircrew tactics and force employment.
China, U.S. declare 90-day halt to new tariffs
China and the United States have agreed to halt new tariffs as both nations engage in trade talks with the goal of reaching an agreement within 90 days, the White House announced after US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held high-stakes talks in Argentina G20 summit. Mr Trump agreed not to boost tariffs on US$200 billion (S$274 billion) of Chinese goods to 25 per cent on Jan 1 as previously announced.
Former US President George HW Bush passed away
George HW Bush became 41st president of the United States in 1989 after serving as vice-president under Ronald Reagan. His son, George W. Bush was also elected president and served two terms between 2001 and 2009. George HW Bush presided over the end of the Cold War and routed Saddam Hussein's Iraqi army but lost a chance for a second term after breaking a no-new-taxes pledge.

Sunil Arora takes over as new Chief Election Commissioner of India
Sunil Arora assumed charge as 23rd Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India. He succeeded OP Rawat who retired on 1 December 2018.

Sunil Arora is retired IAS officer of1980-batch from Rajasthan cadre. He had retired in April 2016 as Information and Broadcasting secretary. Prior to this, he was skill development secretary. He has also worked in ministries and departments such as Finance, Textiles and Planning Commission and also has served as CMD of Indian Airlines for five years.
Bank of Maharashtra appoints A.S. Rajeev as MD and CEO
The 54-year-old previously served as the Executive Director of Indian Bank and had also been the CFO of Vijaya Bank. He will hold the position for a period of three years or till further orders, whichever is earlier.

भारतीय और अमरीकी वायुसेना ने पूर्व कोप भारत -2018 युद्ध अभ्यास किया
भारत और अमेरिका के वायु सेना ने पश्चिम बंगाल में अपने 12 दिवसीय संयुक्त अभ्यास "पूर्व कोप इंडिया-2018" शुरू किया। यह भारत में आयोजित दो देशों के वायु सेनाओं द्वारा आयोजित द्विपक्षीय संयुक्त अभ्यास की श्रृंखला में चौथा संस्करण है।
महत्वपूर्ण:
अभ्यास के इस संस्करण का उद्देश्य दोनों देशों के वायुसेना कर्मियों को परिचालन जोखिम प्रदान करना है और परिचालन क्षमता को बढ़ाने के लिए सर्वोत्तम प्रथाओं के आपसी आदान-प्रदान करना है। यह यूएस-भारतीय पारस्परिक सहयोग बढ़ाने और मौजूदा क्षमताओं, वायुक्रिया रणनीति और बल रोजगार पर निर्माण पर केंद्रित होगा।
चीन, यू.एस. ने नए टैरिफ में 90 दिन की रोकथाम की घोषणा की
चीन और संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका ने नए टैरिफ रोकने पर सहमति व्यक्त की है क्योंकि दोनों राष्ट्र 90 दिनों के भीतर समझौते तक पहुंचने के लक्ष्य के साथ व्यापार वार्ता में शामिल हैं, व्हाइट हाउस ने अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रम्प और चीनी राष्ट्रपति शी जिनपिंग के बाद अर्जेंटीना में उच्च स्टेक वार्ता आयोजित की जी 20 शिखर सम्मेलन श्री ट्रम्प ने 1 जनवरी को चीनी सामानों के 200 अरब अमेरिकी डॉलर (एस $274 बिलियन) पर टैरिफ बढ़ाने की सहमति नहीं दी थी, जैसा कि पहले घोषित किया गया था।
पूर्व अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति जॉर्ज एचडब्ल्यू बुश का निधन हो गया
रोनाल्ड रीगन के अधीन उपाध्यक्ष के रूप में सेवा के बाद 1989 में जॉर्ज एचडब्ल्यू बुश संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के 41 वें राष्ट्रपति बने। उनके बेटे, जॉर्ज डब्ल्यू बुश भी राष्ट्रपति चुने गए और 2001 तथा 2009 के बीच दो बार इन पदों पर कार्य किया। जॉर्ज एचडब्ल्यू बुश ने शीत युद्ध के अंत में अध्यक्षता की और सद्दाम हुसैन की इराकी सेना को परास्त किया लेकिन दूसरे कार्यकाल का मौका गंवा दिया।

सुनील अरोड़ा ने भारत के नए मुख्य निर्वाचन आयुक्त के रूप में कार्यभार संभाला
सुनील अरोड़ा ने भारत के 23 वें मुख्य निर्वाचन आयुक्त (सीईसी) के रूप में प्रभारी संभाला। वह ओ पी रावत की जगह लेगें, जो 1 दिसंबर 2018 को सेवानिवृत्त हुए थे।

सुनील अरोड़ा राजस्थान कैडर से 1980-बैच के आईएएस अधिकारी हैं, जो सेवानिवृत्त हुए हैं। वह अप्रैल 2016 में सूचना एवं प्रसारण सचिव के रूप में सेवानिवृत्त हुए थे। इससे पहले, वह कौशल विकास सचिव थे। उन्होंने वित्त, वस्त्र और योजना आयोग जैसे मंत्रालयों और विभागों में भी काम किया है और पांच साल तक भारतीय एयरलाइंस के सीएमडी के रूप में भी कार्य किया है।
बैंक ऑफ महाराष्ट्र ने ए एस राजीव को एमडी और सीईओ के रूप में नियुक्त किया
54 वर्षीय ए एस राजीव ने पहले इंडियन बैंक के कार्यकारी निदेशक के रूप में कार्य किया था और विजया बैंक का सीएफओ भी थें। वह तीन साल की अवधि या आगे के आदेश तक, जो भी पहले हो, एमडी और सीईओ बनें रहेंगे।
