New Aadhaar linking form for Atal Pension Yojna from January 1 
●    The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has asked Atal Pension Yojana (APY) service providers to use a revised form to seek consent of subscribers' for seeding Aadhaar with their accounts from Monday.
●    APY, is a government's flagship social security programme.
●    After getting the Aadhaar information, the service providers will have to upload it into Central Recordkeeping Agency.

Country's organised sector created 4 lakh jobs in 2016-17 

●    India's organised sector created approximately 1,100 jobs a day in 2016-17.
●    The rate of job creation was 2% higher than 2015-16. 
●    Nearly 45% of the total jobs created during the year were generated between January and March 2017.
●    India has been adding about 8 lakh workers to its labour force every year.
●    This implies that organised sector absorbed only about 50% of new workers who seek employment.

Three years in jail for ousted Egyptian President Morsi

●    An Egyptian court has convicted former president Mohammed Morsi and 18 others of insulting the judiciary, sentencing them to three years in prison in a court.
●    The court also ordered Morsi to pay 1 million Egyptian pounds as compensation to one of the judges.
●    It ordered 22 of the defendants to pay 1 million Egyptian pounds each to a powerful union of judges known as the Judges Club.

●    The frenzied global hunt for lithium is in anticipation of a boom in the sale of environment-friendly electric cars.
●    Chinese companies are trying to take lead in this market.

India’s Copper demand to Rise

●    India’s demand for copper is set to rise because of rise in electric vehicles (EVs) to displace fossil fuel-driven vehicles by 2030.
●    The current demand for copper in India, is expected to get doubled by financial year 2026.
●    This has been states in a report by International Copper Association India (ICAI). 
●    The electrical sector accounts for 56% of total demand.
 

New endemic ants from the Andamans

●    Scientists have discovered two new ant species of the genus Tetramorium in the evergreen forests of the archipelago, Andaman. 
●    Scientists of the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bengaluru and the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University, Japan have discovered the new species Tetramorium krishnani and Tetramorium jarawa 
●    The species are named in honour of late scientist K.S. Krishnan of the NCBS, and after the Jarawas.
●    Jarawas are the indigenous people of the islands.
●    They are believed to have inherited this island since thousand of years.

Danush induction to army delayed

●    The Dhanush is an upgraded version of the Swedish 155-mm Bofors howitzers, which India procured in the mid-1980s.
●    Its induction in Indian Army was delayed after failed trial earlier.
●    The upgrade is being done by the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB).
●    Six guns would be offered to the Army for balance user exploitations by February-March 2018.

Brexit frees uk from german occupation

●    Pro-Brexit activist van Randwyck has said Brexit will help "liberate" the rest of Europe from "EU-German occupation.
●    Britain’s role in the past 200 years has been to restore democracy and self-government to European countries and to ensure there’s a balance of power in Europe.
●    The United Kingdom was a co-founder of European Free Trade Association(EFTA) – the second biggest European trading bloc after the EU – and was a member until it voted to join the European Union in 1974.
●    EFTA has well-established trade relations with 24 states and territories in addition to trade agreements with the EU27.
 

America’s declining life expectancy

●    America’s average lifespan has decreased for two years in a row. 
●    Life expectancy in America as of 2016 is 78.6 years, down 0.1 years from 2015.
●    This has been revealed in a report by the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). 
●    The decline is due to an alarming drop in male life expectancy at birth that fell from 76.3 in 2015 to 76.1 in 2016. 
●    For females, life expectancy remained the same at 81.1.

●    Atta Muhammad Noor is serving as the Governor of Balkh Province in the north of the Afghanistan. 
●    He was appointed in 2004 by President Hamid Karzai.
●    He is also known as the “King Of The North”.
●    Under Mr. Noor, Balkh and it’s neighbouring provinces have seen a semblance of security and development even in the most tumultuous times.

India-China witnessed roller-coaster relationship in 2017 

●    India and China had a roller-coaster relationship in 2017, thanks to the Doklam standoff.
●    The Doklam standoff pushed the two Asian powers to the brink of war, becoming the biggest crisis between them in the past 55 years.
●    The two sides, however, ended the torrid 2017 on a promising note with the most candid talks during the visits of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to New Delhi.
●    It was followed by the 20th round of the border talks between National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and China's top diplomat Yang Jiechi this month.

●    Kadapa defeated Nellore by 97 runs to lift the ACA South Zone under-23 trophy.
●    Chittoor 231 for nine in 50 overs (E. Hemadri Naidu 103, Shamimulla 41, S. Babu 30) lost to Anantapur 232 for eight in 48.2 overs (M. Sai Kumar 88, R. Kartik 55, N.S. Vineel Kumar 32, S. Babu three for 28).

Bronze for Anand

●    Viswanathan Anand won the bronze medal in the World blitz chess championship at Riyadh on Saturday . 
●    He defeated Maxim Vachier-Lagrave of France in the final round.
●    Magnus Carlsen of Norway won the title. 
●    The silver went to Russia’s Sergey Karjakin.


Serena loses on comeback

●    Serena returned from a maternity break in December 2017.
●    In her first match after return she lost 6-2, 3-6, 10-5 to the 20-year-old Latvian.
●    The former world No.1 will vie to defend her Australian Open title when the tournament gets underway January 15.

JNCASR adds more security to LiFi

●    Like WiFi, the light-fidelity (LiFi) technology uses both visible and near-visible light is used for free-space communication. 
●    Microwaves used in WiFi technology to transmit signals can pass through walls but the light that carry the LiFi signal cannot.
●    It makes the network more secure. 
●    Researchers from Bengaluru’s Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) have added another layer of security to LiFi.
