India's First Design University Opened in Ujjain 

●    Avantika University is a private, university based in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, India. 
●    It is India’s first design-centric university.
●    The university is supported by Maharashtra Institute of Technology's Institute of Design.
●    It offers bachelor's and master's courses in design in 2017.
 

Govt. injects funds into 6 public banks
●    The PSBs receiving funds from Govt. are Bank of India, Central Bank of India, Dena Bank, IDBI Bank, Bank of Maharashtra and UCO Bank.
●    All these banks have huge non-performing assets.

Bill to set up National Medical Commission introduced

●    A Bill for setting up a National Medical Commission was introduced in the Lok Sabha by Health Minister J.P. Nadda. 
●    It aims to replace the Medical Council of India (MCI) .
●    National Medical Commission will lead to development and regulation of all aspects relating to medical education, medical profession and medical institutions.
 

Lok Sabha amends bankruptcy law

●    The Lok Sabha amended the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code law on 29th December 2017.
●    It has been done for the prevention of wilful defaulters.
●    According to this amendments defaulters can not take part in bidding proceedings.
●    A defaulter, can become “eligible to submit a resolution plan” if they clear all dues with interest for their NPA.

Amarinder will meet Trudeau

●    Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh will meet Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during his visit to India in February.
●    He is planning to raise, “pro-Khalistan propaganda”, rising from Canada.
●    Amarinder belongs to Indian National congress party and has recently made his govt. In Punjab.
●    Punjabi people are the biggest part of Canada population and Punjabi is one of the official language of Canada.

 
E-way bill passed

●    Implementation of the e-waybill system will be mandatory from February 1.
●    The government expects goods and services tax (GST) collections to rise by 20-25 per cent after the introduction of electronic way (e-way) bills.
●    This bill will help in tracking of the movement of consignments across trucks and help check revenue leakage.

KKR gets RBI Nod to Start India’s 1st Foreign-owned ARC 

●    KKR & Co. L.P. was formerly known as Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.
●    It is one of the most aggressive investors in financial services.
●    It plans to deploy a major chunk from its record Asia fund for buying troubled assets in the country
●    It has got approval from RBI for India’s first foreign owned ARC.
●    ARC means Asset Reconstruction Company

World Bank Ink $40 Million Loan Agreement for UP Tourism

●    The total project cost is around $57.14 million.
●    $40 million will be financed by the World Bank, and the remaining amount will be funded from the state budget.
●    It is to improve poor tourism of the state.
●    Sameer Kumar Khare, Joint Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs on behalf of the Government of India and John Blomquist, Acting Country Director of the World Bank (India) signed the agreement.

 
Paytm Becomes India's First Payments App to Cross 100 mn Downloads on Play Store

●    Paytm Became India’s first payment app to cross 100mn Mark.
●    Paytm was launched in 2010.
●    Vijay Shekhar Gupta is it’s owner.

●    Veteran singer K S Chitra has been selected for prestigious  ‘Harivarasanam’ award 2017.
●    Award is instituted by the Kerala government. 
●    The award carries a cash prize of Rs one lakh, citation and plaque.
●    It will be presented to her on January 14, 2018.

Anushka Sharma is PETAs Person of the Year 

●    Anushka Sharma has been announced has the PETA person of the year.
●    She is an Indian actress known for her acting in PK, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Aye Dil Hai Mushkil etc.
●    She has recently got married with Indian cricketer Virat Kohli.

Ronaldo wins Globe award

●    Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo was named as Globe Soccer’s Best Player 2017.
●    He has received this award for the second year in a row.
●    He has got this award for four times overall.

ISRO to launch 31 satellites in single mission on Jan 10 

●    ISRO announced that it would launch 31 satellites on 10th Jan.
●    It will have India’s Cartosat-2 series earth observation spacecraft too.
●    PSLV-C40 will be used for the launch from the spaceport in Andhra Pradesh’s Sriharikota, about 100 kms from Chennai.
●    It will have 28 nano satellites from foreign countries, including Finland and the US, one micro and nano satellite from India along with one Cartosat satellite.
 

4 students chosen for Google PhD Fellowship 

●    The winners of Google PhD Fellowships 2017 from India are : Preksha Nama, Indian Institute of Technology Madras; Sayak Ray Chowdhury, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore ; Avijit Dasgupta, International Institute of Information Technology – Hyderabad; and Bidisha Samanta, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
●    For 2017 globally, 50 students have been awarded for Google PhD Fellowships in various research subjects.
●    The 2018 program will open for applications in March 2018.

India Ranks 5th in List of Countries with Highest NPA Levels 

●    India has the highest level of non-performing assets (NPA) among BRICS countries.
●    It is ranked fifth on a list of countries with the highest levels of NPAs.
●    This is revealed by a report of CARE Ratings.
●    A non-performing asset refers to a classification for default loans.
●    Debt is classified as nonperforming when loan payments have not been made for a period of 90 days.

●    In the final, Anand beat Russia’s Vladimir Fedoseev to reclaim the title he had won in 2003.
●    Anand is former World No 1, who had lost his overcall crown to Carlsen in 2013.

Anisa Wins Women's 25m Pistol with New National Record 

●    Haryana shooter Anisa Sayyed won the women's 25m pistol gold.
●    She made a new record at the ongoing 61st National Shooting Championship Competitions.
●    She shot a new finals national record score of 33.
●    Earlier Shital shot 30 in the eight-woman final to claim a new finals national record while Rahi finished with 28.

China successfully tested its first Photovoltaic road 

●    China successfully tested its first photovoltaic highway based on home-grown technology in country’s eastern Shandong province. 
●    The road has wireless charging systems for electric vehicles.
●    The tested segment of highway can generate 817.2 KW of power and is expected to generate 1 million KW hours of electricity each year. 

Prince Harry Named President of African Conservation Group 

●    Prince Harry has been named the president of African Parks.
●    It is a conservation group that manages a dozen wildlife areas across the continent. 
●    Kensington Palace and Johannesburg-based African Parks announced the appointment it considering Harry's dedication to African conservation since he left the British military in 2015.

George Weah is the new President of Liberia

●    Former footballer George Weah has been chosen as the President of the Liberia.
●    He will be sworn in as a President on 22 January.
●    Mr. Weah, entered politics after retiring from football in 2002.
●    He got 61.5% of the ballot against 38.5% for his rival.
