Current Affairs 2nd February 2018: NATIONAL NEWS

MoU for Twin Tower Trade Center
 
●    Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri has said that the Government has taken a very active policy to protect the region from being more isolated by enhancing the strength and efficiency of North-Eastern India and improving overall connectivity and infrastructure. East 'policy is created.
●    The Indian government has planned to invest about 45,000 crore rupees for the development of North Eastern Region of India, adjacent to the borders of China, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar.
●    Puri was addressing the function organized on the occasion of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Twin (Twin) Tower Trade Center between Assam Government and National Building Construction Corporation in Guwahati today.
 
Consumer price index for industrial workers
 
●    All India Consumer Price Index (CPI-IW) for industrial workers came down by 2 points in December, 2017 to 286 points.
●    Based on the change in one month, the CPI-IW decreased by 0.69 percent during the period from November, 2017 to December, 2017, compared to 0.72 percent in the same period last year. 

First woman Imam read the prayer
 
●    Zameeda, general secretary of the Quran Sunnah Society of Kerala, made history by paying zuma on January 26, 2018.
●    This is the first time in India that a woman Imam has paid a Jumei prayers.
●    Zamida studied Namaz for almost 80 people, including women, in the role of imam in Namaz, the prayer to Zuma (Friday).
●    Zameeda said that the holy Qur'an does not discriminate between men and women, and there is no restriction on the imam of women in Islam.


Sahitya Akademi language honors
 
 
●    The famous linguist of Magahi language, Balan Anand Madhukar was honored on 1 February 2018 by the language award of the Sahitya Akademi.
●    Anand Madhukar was given the award for the year 2016.
●    This award was given by Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari, President of Akademi. 
●    He was given a memorial, Angavastram and one lakh rupees in recognition of his honor.

Roster system in Supreme Court 
 
●    The Supreme Court has fixed a new roster system for the division of work among the judges.
●    The new system will be applicable from 5 February 2018.
●    According to the roster system the Chief Justices will hear the PILs.
●    The bench chaired by the Chief Justice will hear on the new PILs, election issues, contempt of court, social justice etc..

●    Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will address the inauguration session of Advantage Assam-World Investor Summit 2018 in Guwahati tomorrow.
●    This two-day conference is the largest investment promotion and investment facility of the Assam Government till date.
●    During the Summit, the geo-strategic gains given to the investors by Assam will be highlighted.
●    Under the organizational arrangement, the details of the opportunities provided by the state in relation to the services of export-based manufacturing and emerging economies of South and South-East Asia will be made available.

Rear Admiral S. J. Singh, NM flag officer appointed Marine Training
 
●    Rear Admiral Sanjay Jasjit Singh, NM has been appointed as a Flag Officer Marine Training in Kochi.
●    He was commissioned in the Indian Navy in 1986.
●    He is a graduate of National Defense Academy, Pune and was given the title of all-India Naval Cadet.
●    After this, during Naval training, he also received many awards and honors. He has served in various areas of command and training.

●    Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Science and Technology and Earth Sciences has said that wetlands play important role for cities and humanity.
●    Wetland is the source of drinking water, reduces the flood, the vegetation of wetland cleanses domestic and industrial wastes and improves water quality.
●    Protecting wetland is to save humanity.

Kochi Shipyard Limited signed memorandum with Russia's company
 
●    Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) and  Joint Stock Company United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), Russia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate and engage in Design, Development and Execution of contemporary, State-of-Art vessels for Inland and Coastal Waterways. 
●    The MoU was signed by Shri Madhu S Nair, Chairman & Managing Director, Cochin Shipyard Limited and Mr Alexey Rakhmanov, President, United Shipbuilding Corporation, in the presence of Shri Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Govt. of India in New Delhi yesterday.

'Global Democracy Index'
 
●    In the 'Global Democracy Index' prepared by Britain's Media Institute 'The Economist', India has slipped 10 places to the 42nd rank from last year.
●    India was ranked 32nd in this index last year.
●    In this index, 165 independent countries have been included.

Tai Bamhane won gold in 800 meters race
 
●    Tai Bamhane of the small stature was competing with two Kerala players - Priscilla Daniel and Sandra A.S.
●    The 15-year-old student of the Vidyaprodhini Vidyalaya of Nashik, Marathi medium, remained ahead of both of her opponents who had completed the race before the semi-final on Thursday and finished the race in 2: 13.37 seconds.
●    Tai won gold


Mary Kom won gold medal
 
●    India's famed female boxer MC Mary Kom won gold medal in the India Open Boxing Tournament on 01 February 2018.
●    Five-time world champion and Olympic bronze medalist Mary Kom won gold medal in the match played at the Tegar Stadium in Delhi.
●    Maricom defeated Josey Gaafu of Philippines 4-1 in the final of the 48 kg weight category.

India is the world's third largest raw steel producing country
 
●    India has become the world's third largest raw steel producing country.
●    It has left America behind in the case of crude steel production. 
●    This is said in the report of World Steel Association (WSA)
●    India's steel production in the first two months of the current year is 1.45 million tonnes.
●    India was running fourth in steel production for the last five years after China, Japan and the US.

Li-Fi technology tested
 
●    The Ministry of Information & Technology has recently conducted a successful test of the technology called Lai-Fi.
●    This technique has been given the name of lai-fi (light fidelity) in which the LED bulb and light spectrum can be transferred from 10 GB data per second speed to one kilometer area.

First Combat practice between India and Vietnam
 
●    India and Vietnam's forces took part in a joint parade in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh on January 29, 2018.
●    This joint parade will last for six days. This exercise has been named 'Winbacks'.
●    It is the introduction of increasing defense cooperation between the two countries.
●    This is the first joint military practice to be held between the two countries.
●    India and Vietnam are working on ways to further strengthen defense cooperation.

Gurcharan Singh Kalkat dies
 
 
●    Dr Gurcharan Singh Kalkat, who made a significant contribution in the Green Revolution, died on 27 January 2018.
●    He was 92 years old.
●    In addition to bringing green revolution in the state, Dr. Gurcharan Singh Calkat was very prominent in the field of agriculture.
●    Dr. Gurcharan Singh Kalkat was born on June 17, 1926 in Punjab.
●    He was a well-known insect scientist.
●    He is called as the leader of the Green Revolution in Punjab.
