Three-day conference of Vice Chancellors concluded on research and innovation on higher education
●        The Vice Chancellors across the country today expressed their commitment towards improving the quality of teaching study process and UGC quality mandates in universities and affiliated institutions by 2020 and to all NAAC accreditation in all institutions till 2022.
●        A 10-point resolution was adopted by consensus in the chairmanship of the Union Human Resource Development Minister, Shri Prakash Javadekar, on the closing day of the three day convention of Vice Chancellors.


10% growth is not possible without improvement in the Human Development Index
 
●        Policy commission CEO Amitabh Kant has said that in order to achieve 10 per cent growth, the country needs to improve the Human Development Index .
●        He said that such a development is not possible if the child and maternal mortality rate are high and one in three children is malnourished.
●        In 2016, India slipped from one place in the Human Development Index to 131 in the list of 188 countries.
●        Referring to 200 backward districts in India, Amitabh said that the government can not change alone.
 
 
 Krishna's suggestion for change in Aadhaar law
 
●        The High Level Committee, chaired by Justice Krishna on Data Protection , has recommended a major change in the Aadhar law to increase the security of the personal information of the people .
●        The Committee says that the right to reaffirm the identity through the Aadhaar should be done only by the public units recognized by the Indian Special Identification Authority, or the legal rights granted units, to ensure the safety of the people's privacy.
 
 
Paytm Payments Bank CEO gave up resignation
 
●        Renu Satti, Chief Executive Officer of Paytm Payments Bank , has resigned from his post.
●        He will now lead a new initiative in the retail sector of the company.
●        According to the company statement, in the place of Satti, who assumed the post of CEO of Payments Bank last year, the company will now look for any new person.
 
 
ITC looking to buy Horlicks
 
●        ITC Ltd , a trading company in different areas, has expressed interest in buying popular health drink brand Horlicks .
●        ITC Chairman YC Deveshwar and MD Sanjeev Puri said on Friday that when it is sold and the right price is set, it is willing to buy it.
●        ITC will bid for the entire Consumer Nutrition Business of GSK .
 
 
Parliament passed a bill related to check bounce
 
●        The parliament passed the 'The Negotiation Instruments Bill 2018' on July 26, 2018, with stringent punishment and heavy penalties for the convicts of check bounce to strengthen the economy and to rely in trade and business.
●        The Lok Sabha passed the bill on July 23, 2018.
●        Such provisions have been made in the bill, due to which the disputes arise due to the check bounce, all of them will be resolved in this law.

France's Benjamin Poward won World Cup goal of the tournament
 
●        Benjamin Poward of France won the '2018 World Cup Round of the Tournament' award for his excellent goal against Argentina.
●        FIFA announced this.
●        This 22-year-old defender of Stuttgart scored a goal in the 57th minute with a right foot on the cross of Lucas Hernandez.

FC Goa launches women's football team
 
●        Indian Super League team FC Goa launches its official women team on Saturday before the second Vedanta Goa Women's Football League.
●        FC Goa has thus become the second ISL club to launch a women team.
●        Earlier FC Pune City had made its women team.
●        The women's tournament will begin on August 14 with eight teams expected to take part.

Britain's Andy Murray to return to court on Washington Open
 
●        Former world number one tennis player UK's Andy Murray will return to the court from the Washington Open starting on Monday.
●        If 31-year-old dies in the first round, then he will play against compatriot Kyle Edmund in the second round.
 
Harman Ramanathan defeated in the Hall of Fame Open
 
●        Indian tennis player Ramkumar Ramanathan faced the Hall of Fame Open tennis tournament losing in the final.
●        In the men's singles finals, Ramanathan won the title by defeating US player Steve Johnson.
 
 
Novak Djokovic won the Wimbledon title for the fourth time
 
●        Former world number one Novak Djokovic defeated South African 'Marathon Man' Kevin Anderson to win Wimbledon title.
●        In the final, the Serbian star defeated Anderson 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7/3) in straight sets.
●        This is Djokovic's fourth Wimbledon title, while the overall 13th Grand Slam title is.
●        He won this title before 2011, 2014 and 2015.


Table Tennis: Indians win 15 medals at Junior and Cadet Open
 
●        Indian youth table tennis players continued to perform on international level and in total, 15 medals, including two gold in the Junior and Cadet Open in Jordan, have been named.
●        On Friday, Indian players made two gold, 3 silver and 10 bronze medals.
●        In the girls' mini-cadet singles category, Sohana Saini won the first gold medal for India by defeating Puti Mellati of Cyprus 3-0.
 

20 youth will represent in Junior NBA championship 
 
●        India's 20 boys and girls will participate in the first junior NBA World Championship, which is the first ever global youth basketball tournament for the 13 and 14 year olds of the world.
●        The National Basketball Association (NBA) has announced 32 teams participating in the Junior NBA Championship.
●        This competition will be held in the Orlands of Florida between August 7 to 12 next month.
●        India's boys team from Delhi while girls team from Bengaluru.

Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra Koch Kalvart died
 
●        Gary Kalvart , former coach of Indian star spear throwing athlete Neeraj Chopra , died in Beijing.
●        Under the guidance of Calvert, Neeraj won the gold medal in the Junior World Championships in 2016, while performing world records.
●        Australia's 63-year-old Calvert died on Friday due to a heart attack in the Chinese capital.
●        He was working as a Chinese national javelin throw coach there.

ICICI Bank first loss after16 years
 
●        The private sector ICICI Bank has lost a total of Rs 119.55 crore on a single basis in the June quarter due to non-executed asset growth .
●        This loss has happened to the bank for the first time in the last 16 years.
●        It had a net profit of Rs 2,049 crore in the same quarter last fiscal.
