Irakli Garibashvili as New Prime Minister of Georgia
•The Parliament of Georgia confirmed Irakli Garibashvili as Prime Minister along with a vote of confidence in the cabinet Garibashvili put forward. Garibashvili pledged to create a long-term development strategy for Georgia in his first one hundred days in office.
•First, on the agenda, Garibashvili will continue the essential work of the government to ably manage the pandemic and accelerate the focus on rebuilding the economy while continuing to strengthen Georgia’s security and democratic institutions.
NATIONAL
Union Cabinet approves President’s Rule in Puducherry
•The Union Cabinet has approved to dissolve the Puducherry Assembly and impose President’s rule in the Union Territory, following the resignation of the Chief Minister, V Narayanasamy, whose government lost majority power in the assembly. The decision was taken as no party claimed to form a government, following which, Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan had recommended President’s Rule.
•The approval will now be sent to the President, Ramnath Kovind. The legislative assembly of the UT will be dissolved once the President accords his permission. Prior to this, the President’s rule was imposed in Puducherry between March and July in 1991 when the JD-DMK coalition government fell.
PM Modi virtually addresses 2nd Khelo India National Winter Games
•Prime Minister Narendra Modi has delivered the inaugural address at the 2nd Khelo India National Winter Games through a video conference. The second edition of the Khelo India-Winter Games has been organised at the world-famous ski-resort Gulmarg in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir.
•The event has been organised by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council and the Winter Games Association of J&K. The sports activities at the games will include alpine skiing, nordic ski, snowboarding, ski mountaineering, ice hockey, ice skating, ice stock etc.
Chandigarh became the first Union Territory in India to launch Carbon Watch
•Chandigarh became the first state or Union Territory in India to launch Carbon Watch, a mobile application to assess the carbon footprint of an individual. Although the app can be accessed by everyone, it has specific options for the residents of Chandigarh to compile a detailed study. The application can be downloaded through a QR code in Android supported smart cell phones.
•Carbon footprint is the amount of greenhouse gases-especially carbon dioxide-released into the atmosphere by particular human activity.
Carbon Watch Mobile app:-
•As a person downloads the application, they will need to fill details in four parts Water, Energy, Waste Generation and Transport (Vehicular movement).
•In the category of Water, the person will be required to inform about the consumption of water.
•In the Energy category, the details regarding the electricity units consumed every month at the house, monthly bill etc and usage of solar energy will have to be furnished.
•In the Waste category, the individual will need to inform about the waste generated on their part and their family. In the transport section, the individual will have to inform them about the mode of transport used by the- four-wheeler, two-wheeler or bicycle.
Piyush Goyal addresses 6th International Conference on Pharmaceutical & Medical Devices
•The 6th edition of the International Conference on Pharmaceutical & Medical Device sector was inaugurated by Union Minister of Railways, Commerce & Industry, and Consumer Affairs and Food & Public Distribution Piyush Goyal. The conference which includes INDIA PHARMA 2021 & INDIA MEDICAL DEVICE 2021 is scheduled to take place from February 25-26, 2021 & March 1-2, 2021.

Yusuf Pathan announces retirement from all forms of cricket
•Former India all-rounder, Yusuf Pathan has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket. He played 57 ODIs and 22 T20Is for India since making his international debut in 2007. He was part of the Indian team that won the ICC T20 World Cup 2007 and ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. He scored 810 ODI runs and 236 T20I runs for India. He also picked up 46 wickets in limited-overs international cricket.
•Yusuf played 100 first-class matches, scoring 4825 runs and picking up 201 wickets. In List A cricket, the right-handed batsman accumulated 4797 runs and got 124 wickets from 199 matches. He last played for India in an ODI against South Africa at Johannesburg in March 2012.
OBITUARY
Padma Shri Malayalam Poet Vishnunarayanan Namboothiri passes away
•Renowned Malayalam poet, the priest and academician Vishnu Narayanan Namboothiri, has passed away.
•He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2014, for his contribution to the world of Malayalam literature for decades. He also won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, Kendra Sahitya Akademi Fellowship, Vallathol Award, Odakkuzhal Award and the Mathrubhumi Literary Award, among others. He was also a noted scholar of language and the Vedas, as well as an orator.
Papua New Guinea’s first Prime Minister, Michael Somare, passes away
•The first prime minister of Papua New Guinea, Michael Somare has passed away. He was known as the “father of the nation” because he led the Pacific archipelago to independence from Australia in 1975.
•He had served as the prime minister of the country four times, between 1975 to 2011, and has been the longest-serving prime minister (17 years).

•He has over 40 years of experience in financial services, with over 20 years at Standard Chartered and Citibank, where he had stints in India, Singapore and Thailand. His last role in Standard Chartered was Senior Regional Risk Officer, India, Middle East and Africa. His previous experience with Fullerton included a stint from 2010 to 2017.

•The universal concept of World NGO Day is Celebrate, Commemorate and Collaborate the various NGOs around the world, and the people behind them. World NGO Day is a day for NGOs around the globe to share knowledge and experiences with one another.
•The Day was officially recognised and declared by the 12 member countries (Belarus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Norway and Sweden). It was marked for the first time by the UN, EU leaders and international organisations in 2014.

केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने पुडुचेरी में राष्ट्रपति शासन लगाने की दी मंजूरी
•केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने पुडुचेरी के मुख्यमंत्री, वी नारायणसामी के इस्तीफे के बाद पुडुचेरी विधानसभा को भंग करने और केंद्र शासित प्रदेश में राष्ट्रपति शासन लगाने की मंजूरी दे दी है, नारायणसामी सरकार ने विधानसभा में बहुमत खो दिया था। यह निर्णय किसी भी पार्टी द्वारा सरकार बनाने का दावा नहीं करने के कारण किया गया, जिसके बाद उपराज्यपाल तमिलिसाई साउंडराजन ने राष्ट्रपति शासन की सिफारिश की थी।
•अब इसे मंजूरी के लिए राष्ट्रपति रामनाथ कोविंद के पास भेजा जाएगा। राष्ट्रपति से मंजूरी मिलने के बाद केंद्र शासित प्रदेश पुडुचेरी विधान सभा को भंग कर दिया जाएगा। इससे पहले, 1991 और मार्च-जुलाई के बीच पुडुचेरी में राष्ट्रपति शासन लागू हुआ था जब जेडी-डीएमके गठबंधन सरकार गिर गई थी।
पीएम मोदी ने वर्चुली किया दूसरे खेलों इंडिया नेशनल विंटर गेम्स को संबोधित
•प्रधान मंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने वीडियो कॉन्फ्रेंस के माध्यम से दूसरे खेलों इंडिया नेशनल विंटर गेम्स के उद्घाटन सत्र को संबोधित किया। जम्मू-कश्मीर के बारामूला जिले में विश्व प्रसिद्ध स्की-रिसॉर्ट गुलमर्ग में खेलो इंडिया-विंटर गेम्स का दूसरा संस्करण आयोजित किया जा रहा है।
•इन खेलों का आयोजन जम्मू और कश्मीर खेल परिषद और जम्मू-कश्मीर के शीतकालीन खेल संघ के सहयोग से केंद्रीय युवा मामले और खेल मंत्रालय द्वारा किया गया है। खेलों में खेल गतिविधियों में अल्पाइन स्कीइंग, नॉर्डिक स्की, स्नोबोर्डिंग, स्की पर्वतारोहण, आइस हॉकी, आइस स्केटिंग, आइस स्टॉक आदि शामिल होंगे।
चंडीगढ़ कार्बन वॉच ऐप लॉन्च करने वाला बना भारत का पहला केंद्र शासित प्रदेश
•चंडीगढ़ किसी व्यक्ति के कार्बन फुटप्रिंट (carbon footprint) का पता लगाने के लिए मोबाइल एप्लिकेशन Carbon Watch लॉन्च करने वाला भारत का पहला राज्य अथवा केंद्र शासित प्रदेश बन गया हैं। हालांकि इस ऐप को सभी के द्वारा एक्सेस किया जा सकता है, लेकिन चंडीगढ़ में रहने वाले लोगों का विस्तृत अध्ययन (detailed study) संकलित करने के लिए विशेष विकल्प हैं। इस एप्लिकेशन को एंड्रॉइड आधारित किसी भी स्मार्ट सेल फोन में एक क्यूआर कोड को स्कैन करके डाउनलोड किया जा सकता है।
•कार्बन फुटप्रिंट (carbon footprint) विशेष रूप से मानव गतिविधि द्वारा वातावरण में जारी ग्रीनहाउस गैसों-विशेष रूप से कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड की मात्रा है।
कार्बन वॉच मोबाइल ऐप:
•जैसे ही कोई भी व्यक्ति इस एप्लिकेशन को डाउनलोड करेगा, तो उसे उन्हें चार केटेगरी जल, ऊर्जा, अपशिष्ट उत्पादन और परिवहन (वाहन संबंधी गतिविधि) की जानकारी इसमे भरनी होगी।
•जल केटेगरी में, व्यक्ति को पानी की खपत के बारे में सूचित करना आवश्यक होगा।
•ऊर्जा केटेगरी में, घर में हर महीने खपत होने वाली बिजली इकाइयों, मासिक बिल आदि और सौर ऊर्जा के उपयोग के बारे में विवरण देना होगा।
•अपशिष्ट केटेगरी में, व्यक्ति को अपने हिस्से और उनके परिवार पर उत्पन्न कचरे के बारे में सूचित करना होगा।
•परिवहन केटेगरी में, व्यक्ति को परिवहन के मोड के बारे में सूचित करना होगा- चार पहिया वाहन, दोपहिया या साइकिल।

पद्म श्री मलयालम कवि विष्णु नारायणन नम्बूतिरी का निधन
•प्रसिद्ध मलयालम कवि, पुजारी और शिक्षाविद विष्णु नारायणन नम्बूतिरी का निधन हो गया। उन्हें दशकों तक मलयालम साहित्य में दिए उनके योगदान के लिए 2014 में पद्म श्री से सम्मानित किया गया था।
•इसके आलावा उन्होंने केरल साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार, केंद्र साहित्य अकादमी फेलोशिप, वल्लथोल पुरस्कार, ओडक्कुज़ल पुरस्कार और मातृभूमि साहित्य पुरस्कार भी जीता। वह भाषा और वेदों के विख्यात विद्वान होने के साथ-साथ एक वक्ता भी थे।
पापुआ न्यू गिनी के पहले प्रधानमंत्री माइकल सोमारे का निधन
•पापुआ न्यू गिनी के पहले प्रधानमंत्री माइकल सोमारे (Michael Somare) का निधन हो गया। उन्हें “father of the nation” के नाम से भी जाना जाता था, क्योंकि उन्होंने 1975 में ऑस्ट्रेलिया से स्वतंत्रता प्राप्त करने के लिए प्रशांत द्वीपसमूह का नेतृत्व किया था।

•फुलर्टन इंडिया क्रेडिट कंपनी ने शांतनु मित्रा को अपना नया सीईओ और प्रबंध निदेशक (CEO and Managing Director) नियुक्त किया है। मित्रा को वित्तीय सेवाओं में 40 से अधिक वर्षों का अनुभव है, जिसमे स्टैंडर्ड चार्टर्ड और सिटी बैंक में काम करने 20 से अधिक वर्षों अनुभव शामिल, जहां उन्होंने भारत, सिंगापुर और थाईलैंड में कई पदों पर काम किया हैं।

वर्ल्ड NGO डे: 27 फरवरी
•World NGO Day: प्रति वर्ष 27 फरवरी को विश्व स्तर पर विश्व NGO दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है। विश्व एनजीओ दिवस का उद्देश्य लोगों को NGO (चैरिटी, एनपीओ, सीएसओ) के अन्दर और अधिक सक्रिय रूप से शामिल होने के लिए प्रेरित करना है और एनजीओ और सार्वजनिक और निजी क्षेत्र दोनों के बीच अधिक से अधिक सहजीवन को प्रोत्साहित करना है।
•विश्व एनजीओ दिवस को उद्देश्य सार्वभौमिक अवधारणा जश्न मनाने, चिन्हित और दुनिया भर के विभिन्न गैर सरकारी संगठनों और उनके पीछे के लोगों को सहयोग करना है। विश्व एनजीओ दिवस दुनिया भर के गैर-सरकारी संगठनों के लिए एक दूसरे के साथ जानकारी और अनुभव साझा करने का दिन है।
•कुल 12 सदस्य देशों ने मिलकर (बेलारूस, डेनमार्क, एस्टोनिया, फिनलैंड, जर्मनी, आइसलैंड, लातविया, लिथुआनिया, पोलैंड, रूस, नॉर्वे और स्वीडन) इस दिवस को आधिकारिक तौर पर मान्यता दी गई और घोषित किया गया। इस दिन को पहली बार 2014 में संयुक्त राष्ट्र, यूरोपीय संघ के नेताओं और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय संगठनों द्वारा मनाया गया था।
