• US companies are planning to set up an alternative to China by investing in India, said USISPF

• Over the past decade, Uber Technologies Inc. proved itself to be one of the most prolific young fundraisers ever. It pulled together more than $20 billion from private investors. After burning through more than half that amount in just the last three years, Uber will soon see whether it can recreate that magic on the stock market.
India hikes wheat import duty to 40% to support local farmers.
• The government on Friday said it has raised import duty on wheat to 40% from 30% in a bid to support local farmers. Indian flour millers imported 1.65 million tonnes of wheat in 2017-18 fiscal year, down from 5.7 million tonnes the year before. India's wheat production is estimated to rise by 2% in 2018-19 to record 99.12 million tonnes.
INTERNATIONAL:
Chinese brands take 66% of Indian smartphone market: Report.
• Chinese smartphone brands captured a record two-thirds of the Indian smartphone market in the first quarter of 2019, Counterpoint's Market Monitor research said. China's Xiaomi was on the top with a 29% share while South Korea's Samsung dropped to 23% from 26% last year. Indian brands reached their lowest-ever share owing to lack of innovation and slow growth, Counterpoint said.
Donald Trump to withdraw US from Arms Trade Treaty.
• US President Donald Trump has said he will withdraw the US from the international Arms Trade Treaty. The agreement, signed by former US President Barack Obama in 2013, aims to regulate the sale of weapons between countries. White House said the treaty "fails to truly address the problem of irresponsible arms transfers" because other top arms exporters haven't signed it.

China smartphone maker Leagoo enters India, to invest $200mn.
• Chinese smartphone maker Leagoo has entered the Indian market with the launch of three of its smartphone models. The mobile maker said it plans to invest around $200 million (about ₹1,397 crore) to set up a manufacturing unit in India. The company targets to generate a turnover of ₹200 crore by the financial year ending 2019.

• Indian golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar won the 'Outstanding Achievement as a player' award at the fourth edition of the annual India Golf Industry Association (GIA) awards. Bhullar won the 2018 Fiji International, a European Tour event, and also became the youngest golfer on the Asian Tour to achieve nine career victories on tour.
Abhishek Verma won gold in 10m Air Pistol at ISSF World Cup.
• Abhishek Verma won the 10m air pistol gold medal at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF)World Cup at Beijing, China. He clinched the top spot with a total score of 242.7. Russia’s Artem Chernousov took silver. His brilliant performance in the Shooting World Cup Final also secured a fifth Olympic quota for India.

Terry Rawlings, the British film and sound editor has passed away.
• Terry Rawlings, a British film and sound editor has passed away. He was an Oscar nominee for his work on Best Picture winner “Chariots of Fire,”. He was born in 1933. The 5-time BAFTA nominee also received a career achievement award from the American Cinema Editors society in 2006.

• यूएसआईएसएफ ने कहा कि अमेरिकी कंपनियां भारत में निवेश कर चीन का विकल्प तैयार करने की योजना बना रही हैं
• नई सरकार को यूएसआईएसपीएफ की सिफारिश सुधारों में तेजी लाने और पारदर्शिता लाने के लिए होगी।

• पिछले एक दशक में, उबेर टेक्नोलॉजीज इंक ने खुद को अब तक के सबसे शानदार युवा फंडरों में से एक साबित किया। इसने निजी निवेशकों से $ 20 बिलियन से अधिक की राशि एक साथ जमा की। पिछले तीन वर्षों में उस राशि से आधे से अधिक जमा होने के बाद, उबर जल्द ही यह देखेगा कि क्या यह शेयर बाजार में उस जादू को फिर से बना सकता है।
सरकार ने 40 फीसदी बढ़ाया गेंहू पर आयात शुल्क, किसानों को होगा फायदा
• देश के किसानों को फायदा पहुंचाने के लिए केंद्र सरकार ने गेंहू पर आयात शुल्क बढ़ाने का एलान किया है। अब गेंहू का आयात करने पर 40 फीसदी शुल्क देना होगा। गौरतलब है कि भारत विश्व में गेंहू उत्पादन करने में दूसरे नंबर पर है।
• गेंहू के दाम इस साल 11 फीसदी तक गिर गए हैं। ऐसा इसलिए क्योंकि अभी पिछले साल का भी काफी स्टॉक रखा हुआ है। वहीं इस साल भी रिकॉर्ड उत्पादन होने का अनुमान है।
अंतरराष्ट्रीय:
चीनी ब्रांड भारतीय स्मार्टफोन बाजार का 66% हिस्सा लेते हैं: रिपोर्ट
• काउंटरपॉइंट के मार्केट मॉनिटर रिसर्च ने कहा कि चीनी स्मार्टफोन ब्रांड ने 2019 की पहली तिमाही में भारतीय स्मार्टफोन बाजार में रिकॉर्ड दो तिहाई पर कब्जा किया। चीन का Xiaomi 29% शेयर के साथ शीर्ष पर था जबकि दक्षिण कोरिया का सैमसंग पिछले साल के 26% से 23% तक गिर गया। काउंटरपॉइंट ने कहा कि भारतीय ब्रांड नवाचार और धीमी वृद्धि की कमी के कारण अपने निम्नतम शेयर पर पहुंच गए।

• अमेरिका के राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रंप ने घोषणा की है कि ओबामा शासनकाल के दौरान की गई अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हथियार व्यापार संधि से अमेरिका पीछे हट रहा है। हाल फिलहाल में यह किसी भी अंतरराष्ट्रीय समझौते से वाशिंगटन द्वारा पीछे हटने का नया मामला है।
• राष्ट्रीय राइफल असोसिएशन की वार्षिक बैठक में भाग लेने के दौरान ट्रंप ने यह घोषणा की। ट्रंप ने मौजूद लोगों से कहा, 'हम समझौते से पीछे हट रहे हैं।' शस्त्र व्यापार संधि (एटीटी) पारंपरिक हथियारों में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय व्यापार को नियंत्रित करती है। 2013 में तत्कालीन अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति बराक ओबामा ने इस पर हस्ताक्षर किए थे, लेकिन अमेरिकी सीनेट द्वारा इसकी पुष्टि नहीं की गई थी।

• विश्व टीकाकरण सप्ताह अप्रैल माह के आखिरी सप्ताह में मनाया जाता है। इसका उद्देश्य सामूहिक कार्रवाई की आवश्यकता को उजागर करना है, ताकि हर व्यक्ति को टीका-निवारणीय रोगों से बचाया जाना सुनिश्चित किया जा सके। टीकाकरण लाखों लोगों के जीवन को सुरक्षित करता है तथा व्यापक पैमाने पर विश्व के सबसे सफल और कम लागत वाले प्रभावी स्वास्थ्य हस्तक्षेपों में से एक के रूप में जाना जाता है। सतत विकास लक्ष्य प्राप्त करने के लिए टीकाकरण तक पहुंच विस्तार करना महत्वपूर्ण है।
• इस वर्ष का विषय ‘टीकाकरण से सबको सुरक्षित करें’ है। यह सबके कल्याण के लिए दानदाताओं से लेकर जन सामान्य तक हर स्तर पर लोगों को टीकाकरण कवरेज बढ़ोत्तरी में उनके प्रयासो को और आगे बढ़ाने और जीवनभर संपूर्ण टीकाकरण के महत्व के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ाने को प्रोत्साहित करता है।

टेरी रॉलिंग्स, बाफ्टा-नोमिनेटेड फिल्म ‘एलियन’ और ‘ब्लेड रनर’ के एडिटर, का 85 वर्ष की आयु में निधन हो गया:
• टेरी रॉलिंग्स एक ब्रिटिश फिल्म संपादक, जिन्होंने 1980 में ‘एलियन’ और 1983 में ‘ब्लेड रनर’ में अपने काम के लिए बाफ्टा नामांकन अर्जित किया, साथ ही 1982 में ‘चेरियटस ऑफ़ फायर’ के लिए ऑस्कर नामांकन भी मिला,उनकी हॉर्टफोर्डशायर ,इंग्लैंड में उनके घर में ही 85 वर्ष की उम्र में मृत्यु हो गई।
• वह गिल्ड ऑफ ब्रिटिश फिल्म एंड टेलीविजन एडिटर्स के संस्थापक सदस्य थे और अमेरिकन सिनेमा एडिटर्स में एक सदस्य के रूप में चुने गए थे। उन्हें 2006 में अमेरिकन सिनेमा एडिटर्स के कैरियर अचीवमेंट पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया था।
