WHO revises air quality guidelines for the first time
• The World Health Organisation (WHO) has announced a tight revision in its air quality guidelines (AQG). This is the first revision in the global air quality by WHO since 2005. In the new guidelines, WHO has lowered the acceptable exposure levels to key pollutants, including ozone, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide and particulate matter (PM).
• WHO has lowered acceptable thresholds for several pollutants, including PM 2.5. Now, PM 2.5 concentrations must remain below 15µg/m³.
• According to the new limits, average annual PM2.5 concentrations should not be higher than 5 micrograms per cubic meter.

India Army kicks off ‘Bijoya Sanskritik Mahotsav’ in Kolkata
• Indian Army will organize “Bijoya Sanskritik Mahotsav” from 26 to 29 September in Kolkata. This Mahotsav will be observed to mark the golden jubilee of the India-Pak war 1971. The event will be inaugurated by Lieutenant General Manoj Pande, Army Commander, Eastern Command. Various cultural programs including a film screening, theatre plays, musical concerts, and band performances will be conducted during this event. It will be organized as part of the Swarnim Vijay Varsha celebrations to commemorate the golden jubilee of the India-Pak war.
• The war started on 3 December 1971 and ended on 16 December 1971. It was a military confrontation between India and Pakistan for the Independence of Bangladesh.
• The war started when Pakistan launched airstrikes on 11 Indian airbases. It was perhaps the first time in which India’s all three forces fought in unison.
Defence ministry places order for 118 Arjun Mk-1A tanks worth ₹7,523 crore
• Ministry of Defence will procure 118 Main Battle Tanks, MBTs Arjun Mk-1A for the Indian Army. The order was worth Rs 7,523 crore with Heavy Vehicles Factory, Avadi to sharpen the army’s combat edge. It will support the Make in India initiative in the defence sector and it will help in achieving the goal of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
• The Main Battle Tank Mk-1A is a new variant of the Arjun Tank. It has been designed to enhance firepower, mobility, and survivability.
• Arjun Tank has been part of the Indian Army for the last 15 years. It has been designed and developed by Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE).

Gordon Brown appointed WHO Ambassador for Global Health Financing
• The WHO announced the appointment of The Rt Hon Gordon Brown, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, as WHO Ambassador for Global Health Financing. He is widely credited with preventing a second Great Depression through his stewardship of the 2009 London G20 summit. He mobilized world leaders to commit an additional $1.1 trillion to restore credit, growth and jobs.
• Mr Brown has tirelessly called on wealthy nations as well as the private sector to ensure the equitable distribution of C-19 vaccines, advocating for a concerted global effort — rooted in science and sound economics – to save lives, end the pandemic and restore livelihoods the world over.
OBITUARY
Kamla Bhasin, noted activist and author, passes away at 75
• Women’s rights activist and noted author, Kamla Bhasin, has passed away battling cancer. She started working on developmental issues in the 1970s and her work focused on gender, education, human development and the media.
• The noted poet and author has authored several books, especially on gender theory and feminism, many of which have been translated into more than 30 languages.

International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons 2021: 26th September
• The United Nations observes 26 September every year as the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons. The aim of the day is to enhance public awareness about the threat posed to humanity by nuclear weapons and the necessity for their total elimination. It provides an opportunity to educate the public and their leaders about the real benefits of eliminating such weapons, and the social and economic costs of perpetuating them.
• The General Assembly declared the International Day in December 2013, in its resolution 68/32 as a follow-up to the high-level meeting of the General Assembly on nuclear disarmament held on 26 September 2013, in New York. This was the latest in a series of efforts by the General Assembly to raise public awareness and to seek deeper engagement on nuclear disarmament matters.

Book The Long Game: How the Chinese Negotiate with India by former foreign secretary Vijay Gokhale
• A book titled “The Long Game: How the Chinese Negotiate with India” authored by Vijay Gokhale. In this new book, former foreign secretary of India, Vijay Gokhale, unpacks the dynamics of India-China relations through the prism of six historical and recent events.
• The book gives a practitioner’s insight into strategies, tactics, and tools that China uses for diplomatic negotiations. His 1st book is “Tiananmen Square: The Making of a Protest” was published earlier this month.

WHO ने पहली बार वायु गुणवत्ता दिशानिर्देशों में किया संशोधन
• विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन (डब्ल्यूएचओ) ने अपने वायु गुणवत्ता दिशानिर्देशों (एक्यूजी) में कड़े संशोधन की घोषणा की है। 2005 के बाद से WHO द्वारा वैश्विक वायु गुणवत्ता में यह पहला संशोधन है। नए दिशानिर्देशों में, डब्ल्यूएचओ ने ओज़ोन, नाइट्रोजन डाइऑक्साइड, सल्फर डाइऑक्साइड, कार्बन मोनोऑक्साइड और पार्टिकुलेट मैटर (पीएम) सहित प्रमुख प्रदूषकों के लिए स्वीकार्य जोखिम स्तर को कम कर दिया है।
• डब्ल्यूएचओ ने पीएम 2.5 सहित कई प्रदूषकों के लिए स्वीकार्य सीमा कम कर दी है। अब, पीएम 2.5 सांद्रता 15μg/m³ से नीचे रहनी चाहिए।
• नई सीमा के अनुसार, औसत वार्षिक PM2.5 सांद्रता 5 माइक्रोग्राम प्रति घन मीटर से अधिक नहीं होनी चाहिए।

भारतीय सेना ने कोलकाता में 'बिजॉय सांस्कृतिक महोत्सव' की शुरुआत की
• भारतीय सेना 26 से 29 सितंबर तक कोलकाता में "विजय सांस्कृतिक महोत्सव" का आयोजन करेगी। यह महोत्सव भारत-पाक युद्ध 1971 की स्वर्ण जयंती के उपलक्ष्य में मनाया जाएगा। इस कार्यक्रम का उद्घाटन पूर्वी कमान के सेना कमांडर लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल मनोज पांडे करेंगे। इस कार्यक्रम के दौरान फिल्म स्क्रीनिंग, थिएटर नाटक, संगीत समारोह और बैंड प्रदर्शन सहित विभिन्न सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रम आयोजित किए जाएंगे। यह भारत-पाक युद्ध की स्वर्ण जयंती के उपलक्ष्य में स्वर्णिम विजय वर्षा समारोह के हिस्से के रूप में आयोजित किया जाएगा।
• युद्ध 3 दिसंबर 1971 को शुरू हुआ और 16 दिसंबर 1971 को समाप्त हुआ। यह बांग्लादेश की स्वतंत्रता के लिए भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच एक सैन्य टकराव था।
• युद्ध तब शुरू हुआ जब पाकिस्तान ने 11 भारतीय हवाई अड्डों पर हवाई हमले किए। यह शायद पहली बार था जब भारत की तीनों सेनाओं ने एक साथ लड़ाई लड़ी।
रक्षा मंत्रालय ने ₹ 7,523 करोड़ के 118 अर्जुन एमके-1ए टैंकों का ऑर्डर दिया
• रक्षा मंत्रालय भारतीय सेना के लिए 118 मुख्य युद्धक टैंक, एमबीटी अर्जुन एमके-1ए खरीदेगा। सेना की लड़ाकू धार को तेज करने के लिए हेवी व्हीकल्स फैक्ट्री, अवादी को 7,523 करोड़ रुपये का ऑर्डर दिया गया था। यह रक्षा क्षेत्र में मेक इन इंडिया पहल का समर्थन करेगा और आत्मनिर्भर भारत के लक्ष्य को प्राप्त करने में मदद करेगा।
• मुख्य युद्धक टैंक एमके-1ए अर्जुन टैंक का एक नया संस्करण है। इसे मारक क्षमता, गतिशीलता और उत्तरजीविता बढ़ाने के लिए डिज़ाइन किया गया है।
• अर्जुन टैंक पिछले 15 वर्ष से भारतीय सेना का हिस्सा हैं। इसे कॉम्बैट वाहन अनुसंधान और विकास प्रतिष्ठान (CVRDE) द्वारा डिजाइन और विकसित किया गया है।

गॉर्डन ब्राउन को वैश्विक स्वास्थ्य वित्तपोषण के लिए डब्ल्यूएचओ का राजदूत नियुक्त किया गया
• डब्ल्यूएचओ ने यूनाइटेड किंगडम के पूर्व प्रधान मंत्री माननीय गॉर्डन ब्राउन को वैश्विक स्वास्थ्य वित्तपोषण के लिए डब्ल्यूएचओ राजदूत के रूप में नियुक्त करने की घोषणा की है। 2009 के लंदन G20 शिखर सम्मेलन के अपने नेतृत्व के माध्यम से उन्हें दूसरी महामंदी को रोकने का श्रेय दिया जाता है। उन्होंने विश्व के नेताओं को ऋण, विकास और नौकरियों को बहाल करने के लिए अतिरिक्त 1.1 ट्रिलियन डॉलर देने के लिए प्रेरित किया।
• श्री ब्राउन ने अथक रूप से धनी देशों के साथ-साथ निजी क्षेत्र से C-19 टीकों के समान वितरण को सुनिश्चित करने का आह्वान किया है, जो एक ठोस वैश्विक प्रयास की वकालत करते हैं – विज्ञान और ध्वनि अर्थशास्त्र में निहित – जीवन बचाने के लिए, महामारी को समाप्त करने और विश्व भर में आजीविका को बहाल करने के लिए।

प्रसिद्ध कार्यकर्ता और लेखिका कमला भसीन का 75 वर्ष की आयु में निधन
• महिला अधिकार कार्यकर्ता और प्रसिद्ध लेखिका कमला भसीन का कैंसर से जूझते हुए निधन हो गया है। उन्होंने 1970 के दशक में विकास के मुद्दों पर काम करना शुरू किया और उनका काम लिंग, शिक्षा, मानव विकास और मीडिया पर केंद्रित था।
• प्रसिद्ध कवि और लेखक ने विशेष रूप से लिंग सिद्धांत और नारीवाद पर कई किताबें लिखी हैं, जिनमें से कई का 30 से अधिक भाषाओं में अनुवाद किया गया है।

• संयुक्त राष्ट्र प्रति वर्ष 26 सितंबर को परमाणु हथियारों के पूर्ण उन्मूलन के लिए अंतर्राष्ट्रीय दिवस के रूप में मनाता है। दिन का उद्देश्य परमाणु हथियारों से मानवता के लिए उत्पन्न खतरे और उनके पूर्ण उन्मूलन की आवश्यकता के बारे में जन जागरूकता बढ़ाना है। यह जनता और उनके नेताओं को ऐसे हथियारों को खत्म करने के वास्तविक लाभों और उन्हें बनाए रखने की सामाजिक और आर्थिक लागतों के बारे में शिक्षित करने का अवसर प्रदान करता है।
