Ministry of Railways and BCL signed an agreement for the year 2018-19
●        The CPSE Braithwaite and Company Limited, which came under the Ministry of Railways and its administrative control, signed an agreement.
●        BCL works to build new wagon, repair wagon, steel structural fabrication and crane.
●        On May 23, the agreement was signed by Mr. Ranjnesh Sahai, Secretary, Railway Board and Chairman and Managing Director of BCL and Mr. PP Bose, Director.
 
 Agreement signed between the Department of Divyangjan empowerment and Indian Artificial Limb Production Corporation for the financial year 2018-19
●        The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Ministry of Health, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Artificial Limb Production Corporation for the financial year 2018-19.
●        This includes major targets to be achieved this year for the empowerment of the people in the country.

HD Kumaraswamy sworn in as Chief Minister of Karnataka
●        HD Kumaraswamy took oath as Chief Minister of Karnataka on May 23, 2018.
●        Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Va gave him oath of CM post.
●        The God of Congress also took the oath of office of Deputy Chief Minister.
●        HD Kumaraswamy was born on December 16, 1959.
●        HD Kumaraswamy became the Chief Minister of Karnataka for the second time.

UP cabinet decision, NCERT courses will be implemented in madrasas
 
●        A Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved the change in seminary education on May 22, 2018.
●        Under this, the NCERT curriculum will also be implemented in the madrasas as well as with Dini Talim.
●        Now the children of the madrasas will be able to study Urdu, Hindi, Science, English, Math etc. as well.
●        Uttar Pradesh Government spokesman and energy minister Shrikant Sharma informed about the decision of the cabinet.

Central Government released model contract farming act-2012
 
●        Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh released the last model of 'Agricultural Product and Livestock Contract Farming and Services Act 2018' on May 22, 2018.
●        The main purpose behind designing model contract farming act is to integrate the farmers with wholesale buyers for better value acquisition.

Approval of Memorandum of Understanding between India and Singapore in the field of Personnel Management and Public Administration
●        Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet has given its approval for the signing of MoU between India and Singapore for cooperation in the field of personnel management and public administration.
●        The objective of the MoU is to improve the current system of governance, especially in the workforce, workplace and job, public service delivery, human resources management, public sector reform, leadership / talent development and e-governance / digital government.

Approval of MoU between India and Turkey on Poppy grain business
●        Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet has approved the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between India and Turkey on the Poppy grain business.
●        Its aim is to ensure faster and transparent processing for import of poppy seeds from Turkey.
●        Turkey Grain Board (TMO) will operate an online system for the export of poppy seeds from Turkey to India.
 
 
Approval of MoU between India and Denmark for Food Security and Cooperation 
●        Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet has approved the grant of ex post facto to the Memorandum of Understanding of Food Security and Cooperation between India and Denmark.
●        The MoU between India and Denmark was signed on April 16, 2018.
 
 
Approval of Memorandum of Understanding signed between India and France for renewable energy sector
●        Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet has accorded its executive approval to the Memorandum of Understanding signed between India and France in New Delhi on March 10, 2018, in New Delhi.
●        The objective of both countries is to identify research / demonstration / pilot project in areas selected between the National Solar Energy Institute (NISE), India and the I-Energy Atomic at Ox Energy's Alternative France.
 
Approval of Memorandum of Understanding in the field of renewable energy between India and Morocco
●        Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet has given approval to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Morocco in the renewable energy sector.
●        The MoU was signed on April 10, 2018 in New Delhi.
●        The objective of both sides is to establish collaborative institutional relations for encouraging and promoting the technical bilateral agreement on the basis of mutual benefit, equality and interests on subjects of innovative and renewable energy.

Under the Detailed Telecom Development Scheme for North Eastern Region, centre approved USOF plan for provision of mobile services in Meghalaya
●        Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet has approved an amount of Rs 8120.81 crores for implementing the Detailed Telecom Development Scheme for the North-Eastern Region in Meghalaya at an estimated cost of 3911 crores and for the CTDP project of the North-East.
●        The funds will be provided by the Universal Service Grace Fund.

Indo-Dutch Startup Initiative
●        With the upcoming visit of India's Prime Minister Mark Route to India, relations between India and the Netherlands are expected to be strengthened in all areas.
●        With the Netherlands Prime Minister, the Netherlands Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Healthcare, Infrastructure and Water and Agriculture and Food Minister, along with a 220-member business delegation will also be the largest business mission in India so far.

Venezuela expels U.S. officials from protesting against sanctions
●        Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro ordered the removal of two top US diplomats on 22 May 2018 on Venezuela's widely condemned elections.
●        The President of Venezuela has ordered the Chief of Mission of the US Embassy in Caracas to leave the country within 48 hours.
●        14 countries, including Argentina, Brazil and Canada, have withdrawn their ambassadors from the embassies in Caracas in protest of Nicolas Maduro's victory.

Olga Tokarczuk of Poland received the Man Booker International Award
●        Poland's litterateur Olga Tokkzuk won the prestigious Man Booker International Award on May 22, 2018.
●        He was given this award for his fiction novel 'Fleets'.
●        Some other novels with 'flights' were also included in the race for the prize but Olga won the award, leaving behind all.

●        South African legend AB de Villiers announced his retirement from international cricket on May 23, 2018.

●        De Villiers, on his official Twitter handle, announced this through a video saying that I have made a big decision.

●        As per the survey report recently released by Lancet, India is ranked number 145 in relation to health services.
●        In the survey conducted by Lancet in 195 countries, India is ranked 145th.
●        India is far behind China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bhutan in this survey.
