Union govt approves amendment in FDI policy in Defence Sector
• The Union Government has approved the amendment in Foreign Direct Investment Policy in Defence Sector. The Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that for new licensees, FDI is allowed upto 74 percent through the automatic route and beyond 74 percent will be permitted through the government route.
• The Minister further said that for existing licensees, infusion of fresh foreign investment up to 49 percent will be allowed by making a declaration of change or transfer within 30 days.
• The move aims to enhance ease of doing business and contribute to the growth of investment, income and employment. The foreign investments in the defence sector shall be subject to scrutiny on grounds of national security.
Atal Tunnel, World’s longest highway tunnel above 10,000 feet, connecting Manali to Leh ready after 10 years
• World’s longest highway tunnel connecting Manali to Leh under the Rohtang Pass in the eastern Pir Panjal range of Himalayas on the Leh-Manali highway is now completed after 10 years.
• The Tunnel is named after late and former Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee. It’s the world’s highest tunnel situated at an altitude above 10,000 metres. The Tunnel is 9 km long.The tunnel will reduce the distance between Manali and Leh by up to 46 kms.It will also reduce the travel time by upto 4 hours
Homeopathy Central Council (Amendment) Bill, 2020 passed in Rajya Sabha
• The Homoeopathy Central Council (Amendment) Bill, 2020, was passed in the Rajya Sabha on September 18, 2020. The Bill amends the Homoeopathy Central Council Act, 1973.
• The Homoeopathy Central Council Act, 1973 sets up the Central Council of Homoeopathy which regulates homeopathic education and practice. The Bill replaces the Homoeopathy Central Council (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020 that was promulgated on April 24, 2020.
PM inaugurates Kosi Rail mega bridge in Bihar through video conferencing
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the historical Kosi Rail Mega Bridge to the nation and also inaugurated 12 rail projects related to passenger facilities to benefit the people of Bihar in Bihar via video-conferencing.
• The bridge has strategic importance along the India-Nepal border, which connects the Mitihila and Kosi region. The historical project to build the bridge, which is 1.9 kilometres long and has been constructed at a cost of Rs 516 crore.
• With the construction of the bridge the rail distance between Nirmali and Saraigarh would come down from the present 298 kilometres to 22 kilometres.
India’s first exclusive private jet terminal inaugurated at International airport in Delhi
• The Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on September 17, 2020, inaugurated India’s first exclusive private jet terminal at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
• The terminal will handle the flight operations of the private jets. The new terminal also has the capacity to handle over 50 passengers every hour.
• The private jet terminal will enable the smooth movement of the chartered aircraft and the business jets.
Fourth Global Ayurveda Summit organised virtually
• The fourth edition of the Global Ayurveda Summit, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) held virtually with the theme ‘Ayurveda For Immunity’. The summit was inaugurated by the Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu.
• The objective of the summit is to showcase Ayurveda and herbal medicine to the world as a solution named ‘Health as One’ and ‘Immunity through Ayurveda’.
• The Global Ayurveda Summit 2020 will have 8-day International Conference, 30-day International Exhibition and Focused Business to Business Meetings.

New Zealand becomes first country to mandate climate risk disclosures
• New Zealand has become the first country to pass legislation requiring financial entities to declare their climate-related risks. The rule will apply to banks, insurers, all listed debt and equity issuers.
• Financial entities in New Zealand will have to comply with the framework laid down by the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).

Scientists Develop World’s Smallest Ultrasound Detector
• Researchers at Helmholtz Zentrum München and the Technical University of Munich (TUM) have developed the world’s smallest ultrasound detector. It is based on miniaturized photonic circuits on top of a silicon chip.
• With a size 100 times smaller than an average human hair, the new detector can visualize features that are much smaller than previously possible, leading to what is known as super-resolution imaging.
Obituary
Former RBI governor Amitabha Ghosh passes away
• Amitabha Ghosh, the shortest-serving Governor of the Reserve Bank of India passed away at the age of 90.
• He had served as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India for 21 days between January 15, 1985 to February 4, 1985.
• It was a stop-gap arrangement when Amitabha Ghosh was serving as a deputy governor of RBI and waiting to hand over charge to the 17th RBI Governor R N Malhotra.
Veteran Ayurveda physician from Tamil Nadu PR Krishnakumar passes away
• Tamil Nadu based prominent Indian Ayurveda physician PR Krishnakumar has passed away. He was 69.
• Krishnakumar was the Founder and Managing Director of the iconic Coimbatore Arya Vaidya Pharmacy (AVP) as well as the Chancellor of the renowned Avinashilingam University in Coimbatore.
• The Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri award in 2009 for his contribution to medicine.

World Bamboo Day
• World Bamboo Day is observed every year on 18 September to raise awareness of the benefits of bamboo and to promote its use in everyday products.
• WBD was officially declared by the World Bamboo Organization on September 18 at the 8th World Bamboo Congress held in Bangkok in 2009.
• The theme for 11th edition of WBD 2020 is ‘BAMBOO NOW.’

• French-born author, journalist, historian Claude Arpi has written fourth and final volume of his book titled End of an Era, India Exits Tibet.
• The book highlights India Tibet relation between 1947 and 1962. it also focuses on India losing all its influence in Tibet.

केन्द्र सरकार ने रक्षा क्षेत्र में प्रत्यक्ष विदेशी निवेश नीति में संशोधन को दी मंजूरी
• केन्द्र सरकार ने रक्षा क्षेत्र में प्रत्यक्ष विदेशी निवेश नीति में संशोधन को मंजूरी दे दी है। वाणिज्य और उद्योग मंत्री पीयूष गोयल ने ट्वीट कर कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री के रक्षा क्षेत्र में एफडीआई नीति में संशोधन के फैसला का स्वागत करता हूं। अब, स्वत: मार्ग से 74 प्रतिशत तक एफडीआई की मंजूरी दी जाती है और 74 प्रतिशत से अधिक की अनुमति सरकारी मार्ग से दी जाएगी। इससे कारोबारी सुगमता बढ़ेगी और निवेश, आय और रोजगार की वृद्धि में योगदान होगा।
• रक्षा क्षेत्र में विदेशी निवेश राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा के आधार पर जांच के अधीन होगा। आत्मनिर्भर भारत की हमारी सामूहिक दृष्टि के अनुरूप, राष्ट्रीय हितों और सुरक्षा को सर्वोपरि रखते हुए, रक्षा उत्पादन में संशोधन से आत्मनिर्भरता बढ़ेगी।
• प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी के नेतृत्व में राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा सरकार की सर्वोच्च प्राथमिकता रही है। रक्षा क्षेत्र में प्रत्यक्ष विदेशी निवेश नीति में संशोधन से 'मेक इन इंडिया' कार्यक्रम को बढ़ावा मिलेगा।
अटल सुरंग: 10 साल में बनकर तैयार हुई दुनिया की सबसे लंबी सुरंग,
• लेह-मनाली राजमार्ग पर हिमालय की पूर्वी पीर पंजाल श्रेणी में रोहतांग दर्रे के तहत मनाली को लेह से जोड़ने वाली दुनिया की सबसे लंबी राजमार्ग सुरंग अब 10 साल बाद पूरी हो गई है।
• सुरंग का नाम भारत के दिवंगत और पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी के नाम पर रखा गया है। यह दुनिया की सबसे ऊँची सुरंग है जो 10,000 मीटर की ऊँचाई पर स्थित है। सुरंग 9 किमी लंबी है। सुरंग मनाली और लेह के बीच की दूरी को 46 किलोमीटर तक कम कर देगी। यह यात्रा के समय को भी 4 घंटे तक कम कर देगा।
होम्योपैथी केंद्रीय परिषद विधेयक को राज्यसभा से मिली मंजूरी
• होम्योपैथी केंद्रीय परिषद (संशोधन) विधेयक, 2020 18 सितंबर, 2020 को राज्यसभा में पारित किया गया। विधेयक होम्योपैथी केंद्रीय परिषद अधिनियम, 1973 में संशोधन करता है।
• होम्योपैथी केंद्रीय परिषद अधिनियम, 1973 होम्योपैथी की केंद्रीय परिषद की स्थापना करता है जो होम्योपैथिक शिक्षा और अभ्यास को नियंत्रित करती है। विधेयक होम्योपैथी सेंट्रल काउंसिल (संशोधन) अध्यादेश, 2020 की जगह लेगा,जिसे 24 अप्रैल, 2020 को प्रख्यापित किया गया था।
पीएम मोदी ने बिहार को दी 516 करोड़ की सौगात, कोसी महासेतु का किया उद्घाटन
• प्रधान मंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने ऐतिहासिक कोसी रेल मेगा ब्रिज को राष्ट्र को समर्पित किया और बिहार में बिहार के लोगों को वीडियो-कॉन्फ्रेंसिंग के माध्यम से लाभान्वित करने के लिए यात्री सुविधाओं से संबंधित 12 रेल परियोजनाओं का भी उद्घाटन किया।
• पुल का भारत-नेपाल सीमा के साथ रणनीतिक महत्व है, जो मिथिला और कोसी क्षेत्र को जोड़ता है। पुल बनाने की ऐतिहासिक परियोजना, जो 1.9 किलोमीटर लंबी है और 516 करोड़ रुपये की लागत से बनाई गई है।
• पुल के निर्माण से निर्मली और सरायगढ़ के बीच की रेल दूरी वर्तमान 298 किलोमीटर से घटकर 22 किलोमीटर रह जाएगी।
विमानन क्षेत्र में सार्थक पहल , दिल्ली हवाई अड्डे पर निजी जेट विमानों के लिए विशेष टर्मिनल की शुरुआत
• केंद्रीय नागरिक उड्डयन मंत्री हरदीप सिंह पुरी ने 17 सितंबर, 2020 को इंदिरा गांधी अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डे पर भारत के पहले अनन्य निजी जेट टर्मिनल का उद्घाटन किया।
• टर्मिनल निजी जेट विमानों के उड़ान संचालन को संभालेगा। नए टर्मिनल में हर घंटे 50 से अधिक यात्रियों को संभालने की क्षमता है।
• निजी जेट टर्मिनल चार्टर्ड विमान और व्यापार जेट के सुचारू आवागमन को सक्षम करेगा।
उपराष्ट्रपति वेंकैया नायडू ने किया चौथे वैश्विक आयुर्वेद शिखर सम्मेलन का उद्घाटन
• उपराष्ट्रपति एम. वेंकैया नायडू ने “Emerging Opportunities for Ayurveda during Pandemic” के विषय पर वचुली आयजित वैश्विक आयुर्वेद शिखर सम्मेलन के 4 वें संस्करण का उद्घाटन किया। इस शिखर सम्मेलन का उद्देश्य आयुर्वेद प्रतिरक्षा मॉडल को वैश्विक स्तर पर ‘Health as One’ और ‘Immunity through Ayurveda’ नाम के समाधान के रूप में प्रदर्शित करना है।
• इस वैश्विक आयुर्वेद शिखर सम्मेलन का आयोजन CII (भारतीय उद्योग परिसंघ) -केरला द्वारा आयुष मंत्रालय (आयुर्वेद, योग और प्राकृतिक चिकित्सा, यूनानी, सिद्ध और होम्योपैथी) की साझेदारी में आयुर्वेद मेडिकल एसोसिएशन ऑफ़ इंडिया (AMAI), भारतीय आयुर्वेदिक चिकित्सा निर्माता संगठन (AMMOI) और आयुर्वेद अस्पताल प्रबंधन संघ (AHMA) के सहयोग से किया जा रहा है। इसके अलावा यह संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका (यूएस) में नेशनल आयुर्वेदिक मेडिकल एसोसिएशन (एनएएमए), स्विट्जरलैंड में स्विस आयुर्वेद डॉक्टर्स एंड थेरेपिस्ट्स, एसोसिएशन फॉर आयुर्वेदिक मेडिसिन इन द नीदरलैंड्स द्वारा समर्थित है।

जलवायु जोखिम प्रकटीकरण के लिए न्यूजीलैंड पहला देश बना
• न्यूजीलैंड, जलवायु परिवर्तन से संबंधित जोखिमों की घोषणा करने के लिए वित्तीय संस्थाओं की आवश्यकता वाले कानून को पारित करने वाला पहला देश बन गया है। यह नियम बैंकों, बीमाकर्ताओं, सभी सूचीबद्ध ऋण और इक्विटी जारीकर्ताओं पर लागू होगा।
• न्यूजीलैंड में वित्तीय संस्थाओं को जलवायु-संबंधी वित्तीय प्रकटीकरण (टीसीएफडी) पर टास्क फोर्स द्वारा निर्धारित रूपरेखा का अनुपालन करना होगा।

शोधकर्ताओं ने दुनिया का सबसे छोटा अल्ट्रासाउंड डिटेक्टर विकसित किया
• हेल्महोल्त्ज़ ज़ेंट्रम मुन्चेन और तकनीकी विश्वविद्यालय म्यूनिख (टीयूएम) के शोधकर्ताओं ने दुनिया का सबसे छोटा अल्ट्रासाउंड डिटेक्टर विकसित किया है। यह एक सिलिकॉन चिप के शीर्ष पर लघु फोटोनिक सर्किट पर आधारित है।
• औसत मानव बाल की तुलना में 100 गुना छोटे आकार के साथ, नया डिटेक्टर उन विशेषताओं की कल्पना कर सकता है जो पहले की तुलना में बहुत छोटे हैं, जो सुपर-रिज़ॉल्यूशन इमेजिंग के रूप में जाना जाता है।

रिजर्व बैंक के पूर्व गवर्नर अमिताभ घोष का निधन
• भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक में सबसे कम समय तक काम करने वाले गवर्नर अमिताभ घोष का निधन हो गया। उन्होंने 15 जनवरी, 1985 से 4 फरवरी, 1985 के दौरान 21 दिनों के लिए भारतीय रिज़र्व बैंक के 16 वें गवर्नर के रूप में कार्य किया था। यह एक ऐसा समय था जब अमिताभ घोष RBI के डिप्टी गवर्नर के रूप में कार्य कर रहे थे और नए 17 वें आरबीआई गवर्नर आरएन मल्होत्रा को प्रभार सौंपे जाने की प्रतीक्षा कर रहे थे।
• इससे पहले घोष इलाहाबाद बैंक के अध्यक्ष रहे थे। वह आईडीबीआई बैंक के निदेशक भी थे और नेशनल इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ बैंक मैनेजमेंट के शासी निकाय में भी शामिल थे।
जाने-माने आयुर्वेद चिकित्सक पीआर कृष्णकुमार का निधन
• तमिलनाडु के प्रमुख भारतीय आयुर्वेद चिकित्सक पीआर कृष्णकुमार का निधन हो गया। वह प्रतिष्ठित कोयम्बटूर आर्य वैद्य फार्मेसी (एवीपी) के संस्थापक और प्रबंध निदेशक होने के साथ-साथ कोयम्बटूर के प्रसिद्ध अविनाशिलिंगम विश्वविद्यालय के कुलपति भी थे।
• भारत सरकार ने उन्हें चिकित्सा में दिए उनके योगदान के लिए वर्ष 2009 में पद्म श्री पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया।

अंतर्राष्ट्रीय समान वेतन दिवस: 18 सितंबर
• इस बार 18 सितंबर 2020 को पहली बार वैश्विक स्तर पर अंतर्राष्ट्रीय समान वेतन दिवस मनाया जा रहा है। अंतर्राष्ट्रीय अंतर्राष्ट्रीय गठबंधन (Equal Pay International Coalition-EPIC) पहले अंतर्राष्ट्रीय समान वेतन दिवस के अवसर पर, और वैश्विक महामारी के इस कठिन दौर में, समान सभी श्रम बाजार नेताओं को यह सुनिश्चित करने के लिए आवश्यक कदम उठाने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करने के लिए एक वर्चुली वैश्विक कॉल टू एक्शन की मेजबानी करेगा।
वर्ल्ड बम्बू डे अथवा विश्व बांस दिवस: 18 सितंबर
• World Bamboo Day : प्रत्येक वर्ष 18 सितंबर को विश्व स्तर पर वर्ल्ड बम्बू डे अथवा विश्व बांस दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है। यह दिन बांस के फायदों के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ाने और रोजमर्रा के उत्पादों में इसके उपयोग को बढ़ावा देने के लिए मनाया जाता है।
