Lok Sabha passes Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020
• Lok Sabha on September 15, 2020, passed Essential Commodities Act (Amendment) Bill, 2020. The bill allows the central government to regulate the supply of some of the food items only under the extraordinary circumstances which include natural calamity of grave nature, war, famine, and extraordinary price rise.
• The latest bill passed in Lok Sabha seeks to increase the competition in the agricultural sector and to increase farmers' income. It also aims to liberlise the regulatory system while also protecting the interests of the consumers.
Cabinet approves establishment of new AIIMS at Bihar’s Darbhanga
• The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the establishment of a new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Darbhanga, Bihar.
• The total cost will be Rs.1264 crore and is likely to be completed within four years from the date of the approval of Government of India. The medical college will have 100 MBBS seats.
International
Israel, Bahrain, UAE sign historic US-brokered peace deals
• Israel, Bahrain, and UAE signed Abraham Accords on September 15, 2020, in a signing ceremony which was presided over by the President of United States Donald Trump at the White House.
• The Abraham Accords have been signed to establish the foundation of peace agreements between Israel and the two Arab nations- Bahrain and UAE.
TikTok choses Oracle as its technology partner for its US operations
• ByteDance has chosen Oracle as a US partner for its popular TikTok video service, a decision that comes as a deadline for a ban of the popular app draws near.
• Microsoft was also in a bid to acquire TikTok in the United States but the Chinese owner of the video-sharing platform “TikTok” chose Oracle over Microsoft to be its technology partner for its American operations.

OECD projects India’s GDP at -10.2% in FY21 & 10.7% in FY22, Global GDP at -4.5% in 2020
• OECD projects India’s GDP at -10.2% in FY21 & 10.7% in FY22, Global GDP at -4.5% in 2020
• The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) expects the Indian economy to contract by 10.2% in FY21 (2020-21) as compared to its previous estimate of 16.7% in June.
• For FY22 (2021-22), the Paris-based OECD projects India’s gross domestic product (GDP) to grow at 10.7%.
• OECD expects the global GDP at -4.5% in 2020, which is an upward revision from its previous estimate of -6%.For the year 2021, the global economy is estimated to increase by 5%.
RBI asks banks to fully automate NPA recognition process
• The Reserve Bank of India has mandated banks to fully automate NPA classification and provisioning calculation process.
• All borrower accounts will be covered under the new regime. Lenders will have time till June 30, 2021 to complete this process.
• The new guidelines will include all borrower accounts, including temporary overdrafts, irrespective of size or sector. Banks’ investments will also be covered under the new system.

Scientists detect potential signs of extra terrestrial life on Venus
• Scientists revealed on September 14, 2020 that they have detected potential signs on life on the inhospitable Venus.
• The scientists have detected a gas called phosphine in the acidic clouds of Venus that indicates microbes may inhabit Earth’s neighbour.

BWF Postpones Thomas And Uber Cup Finals To 2021
• The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has announced that the Thomas Cup and the Uber Cup, which were scheduled to be held from 3 to 11 October 2020 in Denmark, has been postponed for 2021.
• This decision has been taken following the withdrawal of many participating countries from the tournament due to the C-19 pandemic.
• The alternative dates to reschedule the World Men’s and Women’s Team Championships is yet to be decided by BWF.

• Facebook India appoints Arun Srinivas as Director of Global Business Group. Facebook announced the appointment of Arun Srinivas as the Director of Global Business Group.
• Srinivas will spearhead the strategy and delivery of the India Marketing Solutions which aims to tap large advertisers and agencies.
• Srinivas has worked with Ola where he served as Chief Operating Officer and Global Chief Marketing Officer.

India Happiness Report 2020: Mizoram, Punjab, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Top List; Maharashtra & Delhi at Bottom
• The first all India Happiness Report covering all states and Union Territories measuring happiness across the country, which is based on a nationwide survey covering 16,950 people between March and July 2020 by Professor Rajesh K Pillania.
• In the happiness rankings of states and union territories, Mizoram, Punjab, Andaman and Nicobar Islands are the top three. Among the big states, Punjab, Gujarat, and Telangana are among the top three states whereas, among smaller states, Mizoram, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh are the top three states in happiness rankings. Among union territories, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Puducherry, and Lakshadweep are the top three union territories in happiness rankings
• Maharashtra, Delhi, and Haryana have shown the worst possible impact of C-19 on happiness, whereas Puducherry and Jammu and Kashmir are neutral and Manipur, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep have shown the best possible impact of C-19 on happiness.

लोकसभा ने आवश्यक वस्तु (संशोधन) विधेयक 2020 को मंजूरी दी
• लोकसभा ने 15 सितम्बर 2020 को आवश्यक वस्तु (संशोधन) विधेयक 2020 को मंजूरी दे दी। कृषि क्षेत्र में सुधार और किसानों की आय बढ़ाने के उद्देश्य से लोकसभा ने आवश्यक वस्तु अधिनियम (संशोधन) बिल-2020 पास कर दिया। इस बिल में खाद्य पदार्थों जैसे अनाज, दालें और प्याज को नियंत्रण मुक्त करने का प्रावधान है।
• हालांकि, विपक्षी दल ने इस विधेयक का विरोध किया। विपक्षी दल ने केंद्र सरकार से विधेयक और अध्यादेश वापस लेने की मांग। सरकार की ओर से कहा गया कि इससे निजी निवेशकों को बहुत ज्यादा नियामकीय हस्तक्षेपों (Regulatory Interventions) से निजात मिलेगी।
केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने बिहार के दरभंगा में नए एम्स की स्थापना को दी मंजूरी
• प्रधान मंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी की अध्यक्षता में केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने बिहार के दरभंगा में एक नए अखिल भारतीय आयुर्विज्ञान संस्थान (AIIMS) की स्थापना को मंजूरी दे दी है।
• इसे प्रधानमंत्री स्वास्थ्य सुरक्षा योजना (PMSSY) के तहत स्थापित किया जाएगा।
• इस मंजूर किए गए नए एम्स को 1264 करोड़ की कुल लागत से तैयार किया जाएगा और इसका निर्माण भारत सरकार के अनुमोदन की तारीख से 4 साल की अवधि के भीतर पूरा होने की संभावना जताई गई है।
• बिहार के दरभंगा में स्थापित किए जाने वाले इस नए अखिल भारतीय आयुर्विज्ञान संस्थान (AIIMS) में 15-20 सुपर स्पेशियलिटी विभाग होंगे।
• इस प्रस्तावित संस्थान की कुल बेड क्षमता 750 होगी, जिसमें इमरजेंसी/ट्रॉमा बेड, आईसीयू बेड, आयुष बेड, प्राइवेट बेड और स्पेशलिटी और सुपर स्पेशलिटी बेड शामिल है।

यूएई और बहरीन ने इजरायल के साथ किए ऐतिहासिक समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर
• इज़राइल, बहरीन और यूएई ने 15 सितंबर, 2020 को एक हस्ताक्षर समारोह में अब्राहम समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए, जिसकी अध्यक्षता व्हाइट हाउस में संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रम्प ने की थी।
• इज़राइल और दो अरब देशों- बहरीन और यूएई के बीच शांति समझौते की नींव स्थापित करने के लिए अब्राहम समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए गए हैं।
TikTok ने Oracle को बनाया अपने अमेरिकी संचालन का तकनीकी साझेदार
• TikTok ने अपने अमेरिकी परिचालन के लिए Oracle को अपना तकनीकी साझेदार बनाया है।
• हालाँकि माइक्रोसॉफ्ट भी अमेरिका में TikTok के अधिग्रहण के लिए बोली लगाने वालों में शामिल था, लेकिन वीडियो-शेयरिंग प्लेटफ़ॉर्म "TikTok" के चीनी ओनर्स ने माइक्रोसॉफ्ट को नजरंदाज कर अमेरिकी संचालन के लिए Oracle को अपना तकनीकी साझेदार चुना।
• दोनों संस्थाओं द्वारा साझेदारी पर हस्ताक्षर पिछले महीने अमेरिका के राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रम्प द्वारा हस्ताक्षरित एक कार्यकारी आदेश के कारण की गई है जिसमे उन्होंने टिकटॉक को 20 सितंबर 2020 तक अमेरिकी कंपनी को नहीं बेचे जाने की सूरत इस पर पाबंदी की बात कही थी।

• आर्थिक सहयोग और विकास संगठन (OECD) ने भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था से अपेक्षा की है कि वह वित्त वर्ष 2021 में 10.2 % तक अनुबंध कर सकती है, जबकि जून में उसके पिछले अनुमान की तुलना में यह 16.7 % थी।
• वित्त वर्ष 2022 के लिए, पेरिस स्थित OECD भारत का सकल घरेलू उत्पाद (सकल घरेलू उत्पाद) 10.7% की वृद्धि के लिए है।
• OECD को 2020 में वैश्विक जीडीपी -4.5% की उम्मीद है, जो कि अपने पिछले अनुमान से -6% है। वर्ष 2021 तक वैश्विक अर्थव्यवस्था में 5% की वृद्धि का अनुमान है।
RBI ने एनपीए मान्यता प्रक्रिया को पूरी तरह से स्वचालित करने के लिए बैंकों से कहा
• भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक ने बैंकों को एनपीए वर्गीकरण और गणना की प्रक्रिया को पूरी तरह से स्वचालित करने के लिए अनिवार्य किया है।
• सभी उधारकर्ता खातों को नए शासन के तहत कवर किया जाएगा। इस प्रक्रिया को पूरा करने के लिए उधारदाताओं के पास 30 जून, 2021 तक का समय होगा।
• नए दिशानिर्देशों में सभी उधारकर्ता खाते शामिल होंगे, जिनमें अस्थायी ओवरड्राफ्ट, आकार या क्षेत्र के बावजूद शामिल होंगे। बैंकों के निवेश को भी नई प्रणाली के तहत कवर किया जाएगा।

• वैज्ञानिकों ने 14 सितंबर, 2020 को खुलासा किया कि उन्होंने अप्रभावी शुक्र पर जीवन के संभावित संकेतों का पता लगाया है।
• वैज्ञानिकों ने शुक्र के अम्लीय बादलों में फॉस्फिन नामक एक गैस का पता लगाया है जो रोगाणुओं को इंगित करता है कि वे पृथ्वी के पड़ोसी से मिल सकते हैं।

• बैडमिंटन वर्ल्ड फेडरेशन (BWF) ने घोषणा की है कि डेनमार्क में 3 से 11 अक्टूबर 2020 तक होने वाले थॉमस कप और उबेर कप को 2021 के लिए स्थगित कर दिया गया है।
