Government sets foodgrain production target at 298.3 mb tons for 2020-21 crop year
• The agriculture ministry has set a target to increase foodgrain production to record 298.3 million tonnes in the 2020-21 crop year (July-June). This is more by 6.35 million tonnes from the previous years’ estimate.
• To be bifurcated, the target is 149.92 million tonnes of foodgrain production in the Kharif (summer) season and 148.4 million tonnes in the rabi (winter) season.
• The foodgrain output in the 2019-20 crop year is estimated at 291.95 million tonnes.

South Korean President’s party wins absolute majority in Parliamentary Elections
• South Korean President, Moon Jae-in’s party won an absolute majority in the recent Parliamentary Elections.
• Moon Jae-in’s left-leaning Democratic party and its allies won 180 seats in the 300-member National Assembly, while the conservative opposition coalition won 103 seats. The Democratic party has 120 seats currently.
• The provisional results were released by the National Election Commission on April 16, 2020.

• Goldman Sachs has downgraded its stance on the Indian market from ‘overweight’ to ‘marketweight’ due to “delayed recovery and extended valuations.”

Actor Ranjit Chowdhry passes away
• Actor-writer Ranjit Chowdhry passed away at the age of 65 years on April 15, 2020 in Mumbai. He was the son of veteran theatre artiste Pearl Padamsee and stepson of Theatre and ad world stalwart Alyque Padamsee.
• Chowdhry will be remembered for his roles in Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 'Khubsoorat', Mira Nair's 'Mississippi Masala' starring Denzel Washington, Basu Chatterjee's 'Khatta Meetha' and 'Baton Baton Mein'.
National Football League’s Hall of Famer Willie Davis Passes Away at 85
• Former American football defensive player, Willie Davis, passed away. He was 85.
• Davis was inducted into the National Football League’s Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1981.He spent 12 seasons in the National Football League (NFL) and played for the Cleveland Browns (1958-59) and the Green Bay Packers (1960-69).
• Davis become the first African-American captain in Green Bay Packers’ history in 1965.

BCCI suspends IPL 2020 indefinitely
• The Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided that the IPL 2020 Season will be suspended till “further notice”.
• The IPL was set to start on March 29 and end on May 24, but it was first postponed till April 15.

सरकार ने फसल वर्ष 2020-21 में रिकॉर्ड 29.83 करोड़ टन अनाज उत्पादन का लक्ष्य निर्धारित किया
सामान्य मानसून रहने की उम्मीद के अनुरूप कृषि मंत्रालय ने फसल वर्ष 2020-21 में अनाज उत्पादन को 63.5 लाख टन बढ़ाकर 29.83 करोड़ टन करने का लक्ष्य निर्धारित किया है। फरवरी में मंत्रालय द्वारा जारी दूसरे अग्रिम अनुमान के अनुसार, फसल वर्ष 2019-20 (जुलाई-जून) में खाद्यान्न उत्पादन 29 करोड़ 19.5 लाख टन रहने का उनुमान है। यह अब तक का सब के सर्वकालिक उत्पादन होगा है। कृषि आयुक्त एस के मल्होत्रा ने खरीफ फसलों की बुवाई की योजना बनाने के लिए आयोजित राष्ट्रीय स्तर के वीडियो कॉन्फ्रेंस में कहा, ‘‘भारतीय मौसम विभाग (आईएमडी) ने देश भर में जून से सितंबर के दौरान दक्षिण-पश्चिम मानसून की बारिश सामान्य होने की संभावना जताई है जो खरीफ (ग्रीष्म) फसलों के लिए अच्छा साबित होगा। उन्होंने कहा कि खरीफ फसलों की बुवाई देश के कुछ हिस्सों में शुरू हो चुकी है और उन्होंने फसल वर्ष 2010-21 के लिए खाद्यान्न उत्पादन लक्ष्य निर्धारित किये जाने के बारे में बताया। उन्होंने कहा कि कृषि मंत्रालय ने खरीफ (गर्मी) के मौसम में 14 करोड़ 99.2 लाख टन खाद्यान्न उत्पादन और रबी (सर्दियों) सत्र में 14.84 करोड़ टन के उत्पादन का लक्ष्य रखा है। जिससे फसल वर्ष 2020-21 में कुल खाद्यान्न का लक्ष्य रिकॉर्ड 29.83 करोड़ टन तय किया गया है। चावल उत्पादन वर्तमान फसल वर्ष में अनुमानित 11 करोड़ 74.7 लाख टन के मुकाबले चावल उत्पादन का लक्ष्य वर्ष 2020-21 में 11.75 करोड़ टन रखा गया है। इसी प्रकार, गेहूं उत्पादन का लक्ष्य फसल वर्ष 2019-20 के 10.65 करोड़ टन के स्तर पर ही रखा गया है।

राष्ट्रपति मून जे इन (Moon Jae -n) के सत्ताधारी गठबंधन को 300 सीट वाली नेशनल एसेंबली में 180 सीटों पर जीत हासिल हुई है जिसमें डेमोक्रेटिक पार्टी (Democratic Party) को 163 और उसकी सहयोगी सैटेलाइट पार्टी को 17 सीटों पर जीत हासिल हुई।

गोल्डमैन सैक्स ने घटाई भारतीय बाजार की रेटिंग
गोल्डमैन सैक्स ने भारतीय बाजार के बारे में अपना रुख बदलते हुए उसकी रेटिंग को 'ओवरवेट से घटाकर 'मार्केटवेट कर दिया है। रेटिंग एजेंसी ने सुधार में देरी और मूल्यांकन में विस्तार का हवाला देते हुए रेटिंग घटाई है। अमेरिका की इस निवेश फर्म ने जून 2021 के लिए निफ्टी के लक्ष्य को भी घटाकर 9,600 कर दिया है। उसका मानना है कि कॉरपोरेट आय में उल्लेखनीय गिरावट आई है।
गोल्डमैन सैक्स के अनुसार, 'मूल्यांकन काफी आशावान दिख रहा है। निकट भविष्य की आय के बारे में अनिश्चितता के साथ ही पी/ई गुणक में सही ईपीएस अनुमान का इस्तेमाल हो रहा है और कैलेंडर वर्ष 2021 के लिए ईपीएस पिछले संकट के स्तर से कहीं ऊपर रहता है। भारत का पूर्ववर्ती प्राइस-टु-बुक (पी/बी) अनुपात 2.2 गुना पर 2008-09 के वैश्विक आर्थिक संकट के मुकाबले 15 फीसदी अधिक है।

मशहूर अभिनेता रंजीत चौधरी का 64 साल की उम्र में निधन
मशहूर अभिनेता रंजीत चौधरी ने इस दुनिया को अलविदा कह दिया है। 64 वर्ष की आयु में रंजीत ने आखिरी सांस ली। उनकी बहन रैल पद्मसी ने रंजीत के निधन की जानकारी अपनी एक इंस्टाग्राम पोस्ट के जरिए दी। करीब 40 फिल्मों और टीवी धारावाहिकों में काम कर चुके रंजीत चौधरी को लोग मिसीसिपी मसाला और कामसूत्र में उनके किरदारों से भी याद करते हैं।
मशहूर अभिनेत्री पर्ल पद्मसी के बेटे रंजीत का जन्म पर्ल की पहली शादी के बाद हुआ था। पर्ल ने बाद में मशहूर एडमैन एलेक पद्मसी से शादी कर ली। रंजीत की बहन का नाम रोहिनी चौधरी था। रैल पद्मसी उनकी सौतेली बहन हैं।
रंजीत चौधरी ने फिल्म खट्टा मीठा से 1978 में अपना करियर शुरू किया। बाद में वह बातों बातों में, खूबसूरत और कालिया जैसी फिल्मों में नजर आए।

बीसीसीआई ने अनिश्चित काल के लिए स्थगित किया आईपीएल 2020
बीसीसीआई ने अपने बयान में कहा कि अगली सूचना तक इस टूर्नमेंट को स्थगित किया जा रहा है। बोर्ड ने इस बारे में इंडियन प्रीमियर लीग (IPL) के टीम मालिकों, ब्रॉडकास्टर, स्पॉन्सरों और स्टॉकहोल्डरों को जानकारी दे दही है।

सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र की दूरसंचार कंपनी बीएसएनएल के चेयरमैन और प्रबंध निदेश्क पी के पुरवार ने महानगर टेलीफोन निगम लि. (एमटीएनएल) का अतिरिक्त प्रभार संभाल लिया है। यह तीसरा मौका है जब पुरवार को एमटीएनएल के चेयरमैन और प्रबंध निदेशक (सीएएमडी) की जिम्मेदारी सौंपी गयी है। एमटीएनएल ने बुधवार को शेयर बाजार को दी सूचना में कहा, ‘‘सरकार ने बीएसएनएल के सीएमडी पी के पुरवार को 13 अप्रैल से एमटीएनएल के चेयरमैन और प्रबंध निदेशक पद की अतिरिक्त जिम्मेदारी दी है।’’ पुरवार ने 15 अप्रैल से एमटीएनएल के सीएमडी का पदभार संभाल लिया है। उन्होंने बीएसएनएल के चेयरमैन का पदभार जुलाई 2019 में संभाला।

• आज विश्व हीमोफीलिया दिवस की 30वीं वर्षगांठ मनाई जा रही है। इसे विश्व फेडरेशन ऑफ हीमोफीलिया (WHF) द्वारा शुरू किया गया था। उन लोगों की देखभाल, बेहतर निदान और उन प्रयासों के लिए जो बिना इलाज के रहते हैं। साथ ही यह दिन उन लोगों के लिए धन जुटाने के लिए भी प्रेरित करता है जो इस बीमारी से पीड़ित हैं और इलाज का खर्च उठाने में सक्षम नहीं हैं।
• यह दोस्तों, परिवार, सहकर्मियों इत्यादि के साथ रोग पर चर्चा करने और हीमोफीलिया रोग से पीड़ित रोगियों का समर्थन करने का अवसर भी प्रदान करता है।
