INDIA GOT ELECTED TO UN HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL
India has been elected for 3 years beginning January 1, 2019. India secured 188 votes in Asia-Pacific category, the highest number of votes among all candidates. From Asia-Pacific region category, Fiji with 187 and Bangladesh 178 votes were also elected along with India. This was fifth time India has been elected to UNHRC, previously was elected 2006-2009, 2011-2014 and 2014-2017.
United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)
The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is a United Nations body whose mission is to promote and protect human rights around the world. The UNHRC has 47 members elected for staggered three-year terms on a regional group basis. The 38th session of the UNHRC began June 18, 2018. It ended on July 7, 2018.The headquarters of UNHRC is in Geneva, Switzerland.

H1N1 FLU SPREAD IN KARNATAKA
177 cases of swine flu detected.
H1N1 FLU
A human respiratory infection caused by an influenza strain that started in pigs. 
Fewer than 1 million cases per year (India).
It is Preventable by vaccine.
Treatable by a medical professional.
It spreads easily.
Swine flu was first recognised in the 1919 pandemic and still circulates as a seasonal flu virus. Swine flu is caused by the H1N1 virus strain, which started in pigs.
Symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, chills, weakness and body aches. Children, pregnant women and the elderly are at risk from severe infection.

Portugal declares red alert as hurricane Leslie threatens to be the worst storm in 150 years
Portugal placed most of the country under red alert Saturday as Hurricane Leslie, which threatens to be the fiercest storm to hit the country since 1842, approached the coast. According to meteorological records, only five hurricanes have ever arrived in this part of the Atlantic Ocean. Hurricane Leslie could turn out to be the fiercest storm to hit Portugal since 1842. Strong winds from Hurricane Ophelia in Portugal and western Spain fed forest fires that  killed around 40 people during the heatwave in 2017.
