Haryana sprinter Dharambir Singh banned by NADA
Haryana sprinter Dharambir Singh in the third week of November 2016 was handed an eight-year ban by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).
● The 25-year old runner was earlier stripped of his gold medal won in the 100m race during the National inter-State Championships in 2012 for eluding a mandatory dope test.
● Dharambir Singh is an Indian male sprinter.
● In July 2016, he set a new national record for India when he won the 200 metres race at the Indian Grand Prix in Bengaluru.
● His time of 20.45 seconds was under the 20.50 seconds qualifying threshold for the 200 metres race in the 2016 Summer Olympics.
● With this, he became the first competitor for India to qualify for the 200 metres at the Olympics in 36 years.
● On 2 August 2016, he failed to board his flight to Rio de Janeiro, and was reported to have failed a drug test.
हरियाणा के फर्राटा धावक धरमबीर सिंह पर राष्ट्रीय डोपिंग निरोधक एजेंसी (नाडा) ने आठ साल का प्रतिबंध लगाया है. 200 मीटर के धावक धरमबीर को बेंगलुरु में 11 जुलाई 2016 को इंडियन ग्रां प्री के दौरान डोप टेस्ट में पॉजिटिव पाया गया था.
● इससे पहले 2012 में अनिवार्य डोप टेस्ट नहीं देने के कारण धरमवीर से राष्ट्रीय अंतर प्रांत चैंपियनशिप में जीता 100 मीटर का स्वर्ण पदक छीन लिया गया था.
● धर्मबीर ने जुलाई 2016 में बेंगलुरु में हुर्इ इंडियन ग्रां प्री एथलेटिक्स में 20.50 सेकंड के ओलंपिक मार्क को 20.45 सेकंड में पूरा किया था.
● नाडा युवा कार्य और खेल मंत्रालय के तहत स्वायत्त ईकाई है, जो खेलों में डोपिंग की जांच करती है.
● भारत विश्व डोपिंग निरोधक आचार संहिता को लेकर प्रतिबद्ध है और प्रक्रिया का पालन करता है.
● खिलाड़ी को यहां पर अपनी बात रखने का मौका मिलता है.
● सरकार नाडा के काम में दखल नहीं देती और डोपिंग से जुड़े मामलों में पूरी पारदर्शिता तथा निष्पक्षता बरतती है.
● नाडा, वाडा के अंतर्गत काम करती है. वाडा का काम डोपिंग को चेक करना है. इसी मामलों में अंतिम फैसला वडा ही करती है.
