Ecuador takes chair of UN group of 134 developing countries
Ecuador on 14 January 2017 took over the chair of the United Nations Group of 77.
● It took the charge of Group of 77 from Thailand.
● Thailand Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai said that in 2016 his country focused on how to implement the 17 UN goals for 2030, which would help in promoting development and good governance, and preserve the environment.
● Thailand passed the baton of the group to Ecuador.
● New Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the G-77 is his "preferred forum" to implement his vision including seeing the new goals become reality and reforming UN operations.
● The Group of 77 (G77) at the United Nations is a coalition of developing nations.
● It was designed to promote its members' collective economic interests and create an enhanced joint negotiating capacity in the United Nations.
● In short G77 promotes the interests of the 134 developing countries it represents at the United Nations, including China.
इक्वाडोर को 14 जनवरी 2017 को संयुक्त राष्ट्र के समूह 77 (जी-77) की अध्यक्षता प्राप्त हुई. इक्वाडोर को थाईलैंड से जी-77 की अध्यक्षता मिली.
● अध्यक्षता प्राप्त होने पर इक्वाडोर के राष्ट्रपति राफेल कोरेया ने कहा कि वे समाजिक और आर्थिक एकता का प्रसार करते रहेंगे.
● थाईलैंड के विदेश मंत्री डॉन प्रामुडविनई ने कहा कि वर्ष 2016 में थाईलैंड ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र द्वारा 2030 के लिए निर्धारित किये गये 17 लक्ष्यों की प्राप्ति हेतु ध्यान केन्द्रित किया.
● इससे विकास को बढ़ावा देने, सुशासन लाने तथा पर्यावरण की रक्षा के लिए बेहतर माहौल तैयार हो सकेगा. थाईलैंड ने बैटन इक्वाडोर को सौपते हुए यह घोषणा की.
● संयुक्त राष्ट्र के वर्तमान महासचिव एंटोनियो गुतेरस ने कहा कि वे जी-77 का सम्मान करते हैं तथा इस समूह के द्वारा निर्धारित लक्ष्यों की प्राप्ति में विश्वास रखते हैं.
● जी-77 विकासशील देशों द्वारा बनाया गया एक समूह है.
● इसका निर्माण विभिन्न आर्थिक एवं सामाजिक लक्ष्यों को प्राप्त करने के लिए किया गया जिसे इन सभी देशों द्वारा संयुक्त रूप से प्राप्त किया जाना है.
