B S Bhullar appointed Chief of Directorate General of Civil Aviation
Senior IAS officer B.S. Bhullar on 5 December 2016 was appointed the Chief of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
● At present, Bhullar, a 1986-batch IAS officer, is working as an Additional Secretary in Civil Aviation Ministry. He was also holding the additional charge of the DGCA.
● The post of the Chief of DGCA was lying vacant for over four months after M Sathiyavathy, a 1982-batch IAS officer of the union territories cadre, was named as new Union Labour Secretary in July 2016. She was the first woman chief of the aviation regulator.
● The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is the Indian governmental regulatory body for civil aviation under the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
● It investigates aviation accidents and incidents.
● It is headquartered in New Delhi.
● Lately, the Indian government has been planning to replace the organisation with a Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
● The CAA is said to be modelled on the lines of the American Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
वरिष्ठ आईएएस अधिकारी बी एस भुल्लर को 5 दिसंबर 2016 को नागरिक उड्डयन महानिदेशालय (डीजीसीए) का प्रमुख नियुक्त किया गया.
● 1986 बैच के आईएएस अधिकारी भुल्लर वर्तमान में नागरिक उड्डयन मंत्रालय में अतिरिक्त सचिव पद पर कार्यरत हैं.
● वे डीजीसीए का अतिरिक्त प्रभार संभाल रहे थे.
● नागरिक उड्डयन महानिदेशालय के प्रमुख का पद पिछले कुछ माह से रिक्त था. इस पद पर एम सत्यवती थीं. उन्हें जुलाई 2016 में केन्द्रीय श्रम सचिव नियुक्त किये जाने से ही यह पद खाली था.
● नागरिक उड्डयन महानिदेशालय, नागरिक उड्डयन मंत्रालय के तहत नागरिक उड्डयन के लिए भारतीय सरकारी नियामक संस्था है.
● यह विमानन दुर्घटनाओं और घटनाओं की जांच करता है.
● इसका मुख्यालय नई दिल्ली में स्थित है.
● भारत सरकार इस संस्था को नागरिक उड्डयन प्राधिकरण के साथ परवर्तित करना चाहती है.
● ऐसा माना जा रहा है कि नागरिक उड्डयन प्राधिकरण अमेरिका के अमेरिकन फ़ेडरल एविएशन एडमिनिस्ट्रेशन की तरह कार्यरत होगा.
