India at 21st rank :Nuclear Security Index 2016
Nuclear Security Index was recently released by a US based think tank, NTI or Nuclear Threat Initiative on the theme ‘Building a Framework for Assurance, Accountability, and Action The Index assessed global nuclear security conditions in 176 countries in two areas - the potential theft of weapons-usable nuclear materials and the potential sabotage of nuclear facilities. Among the 24 states with one kilogram or more of weapons-usable nuclear materials in the world, while Australia was adjudged as the safest, India was among the least safe with the 21st rank. India improved two ranks by participating in bilateral assistance activities with the USA and putting in place the IAEA Additional Protocol.



Amit Shah was elected unopposed president of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday for a second term, this time for a full tenure of three years. Mr. Shah had earlier completed Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s interrupted tenure as president from July 2014. Shah had taken over as the party chief during midway of Rajnath Singh’s term after Singh joined the government as the Home Minister in May 2014.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 24 presented the National Bravery Award to 25 children. He congratulated the children along with their parents for their bravery to help “fellow human beings in distress”. The National Bravery Award scheme was initiated by the ICCW to give due recognition to children who distinguish themselves by performing outstanding deeds of bravery and meritorious service and to inspire other children to emulate their examples. The awards are usually announced on 14 November, Children's Day,
This celebration was started to offer more supports and new opportunities to the girls in the country. It is celebrated to increase the awareness among people about all the inequalities faced by the girl child in the society. This day is being observed every year on 24 January since 2008. Government of India has started National Girl Child Day as a national girl’s development mission. The mission raises the awareness among people all over the country about the importance of girls’ promotion. It helps in enhancing girls’ meaningful contribution in decision making processes by active support of the parents and the community members.
India defeated Pakistan to become the champions of the first edition of Blind T20 Asia Cup at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi. Batting first, India set up a target of 280 runs in 20 overs, in reply of which Pakistan managed only a feeble 164. Pakistan had been unbeaten in the series when it entered the final match, ending up second in the series. Sri Lanka secured third position for itself.
Two-time World Championship bronze-medallist, India’s P.V. Sindhu made a rousing start to the new season as she clinched the Malaysia Masters Grand Prix Gold title after defeating Scotland’s Kristy Gilmour in straight games in the final in Penang. This is her second Malaysia Masters Grand Prix Gold title, having won it in 2013 as well. She also completed a hat—trick at the Macau Open Grand Prix Gold in November last year.
‘Nai Manzil’ is a scheme initiated by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India to provide education and market driven job skill training to poor youth from minority communities. The scheme has been widely assisted by World Bank.
Former Deputy Speaker of Gujarat Assembly and Social Activist Nirmala Gajwani passed away in Rajkot, Gujarat. First MLA from Kutch district, Mrs. Gajwani was the first lady Deputy Speaker of Gujarat legislative Assembly and was reputed social worker along with being one of the leading lights of the Sindhi community in the state.
