"The Turbulent Year " Second Volume of Memoir of President of India released

The second volume of the President’s Memoir, titled “The Turbulent Years” was released recently by the Vice President Mr. Ansari. The first volume titled “The Dramatic Years” was released on 25th January 2014. This volume is an account of major events from his perspective. He has the habit of writing a page in his diary every day. The basic  material in this book is from his diaries. He has, however, adopted a conservative  approach. He has held many sensitive posts over his long career in public service and was  bound by oath not to divulge any information he may have come to know as minister. It is  his conviction that some facts are never to be revealed.

Two Advisers appointed for Arunachal's Governor

Following the imposition of President's rule in Arunachal Pradesh, Former Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal and retired IAS officer G S Patnaik have been appointed as advisors to the state Governor Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa. President’s Rule wa applied on the  state under article 356 of the constitution on the grounds of political instability  created when the Supreme Court ordered the state government to cease Legislative  Council’s session.

India and ADB Sign $80 Million Loan Agreement

 India has inked an $80 million loan agreement with Asian Development Bank to improve  infrastructure in two Northeastern state capital cities. The loan is the third tranche of  a $200 million financing facility under the North Eastern Region Capital cities Development Investment Programme and will be used for investments in water supply, solid  waste management and sanitation in Agartala and Aizwal.

Apollo Munich ties up with Axis Bank

 Standalone health insurance company Apollo Munich today announced its partnership with  Axis Bank for offering bank customers customised insurance policies. Apollo Hospitals  Group firm Apollo Energy company announced selling of its 23.3 per cent stake in Apollo  Munich Health Insurance company to its German partner Munich Re for Rs. 163.5 crore.Post the transaction, Munich Re’s stake in the insurance joint venture would increase to 48.7 per cent. Apollo Munich Health Insurance has distribution partnership with Canara Bank, Indian Overseas Bank and Citi.

CERT-In inks cyber security agreements with 3 nations

Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has signed cyber security agreement with its counterparts in Malaysia, Singapore and Japan. In this regard, the Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has apprised the Memorandum of Understandings 

(MoUs) signed between CERT-In and 3 nations.  CERT-In is nodal department under the aegis of Union Ministry of Communications and  Information Technology that deals with cyber security threats like hacking and phishing  in India. With headquarters in Delhi, its objective is to protect Indian cyberspace and  software infrastructure against destructive and hacking activities. Strengthen security- related defence of the Indian Internet domain.

David Warner won Allan Border Medal

Ishika Shah won 12th Sub-Junior National Snooker championship title

14-year old Ishika Shah won the 12th Sub-Junior National Snooker championship title in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. To win the title, she defeated Anushi Seth by 50-2, 50-33 in the final match. To reach the finals, she defeated the defending champion Doyel Dey in the semi-final. Incidentally, Ishika lost the title to Doyel in the summit clash held in Kolkata in 2015. However, Doyel retained the sub-junior billiards title. The title was awarded to her when the original winner, Lahiri Sinapara, was found two months over-aged than the prescribed 18 years age limit.

Artificial Intelligence pioneer Marvin Minsky passed away

Artificial intelligence pioneer Marvin Minsky died from a cerebral hemorrhage, closing a  noteworthy career in artificial intelligence that spanned more than five decades. He was  88. Minsky, a native New Yorker, cofounded the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (now  the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory) at MIT in 1959, a year after  he joined the faculty at university's electrical engineering and computer science  department, according to a statement from the laboratory. That laboratory emerged long  before supercomputers came on the scene in 1972. Minsky's book The Society of Mind, which was published in 1985, was considered  groundbreaking work regarding the various mechanisms that interacted in intelligence and  thought. His last book, The Emotion Machine: Commonsense Thinking, Artificial  Intelligence, and the Future of the Human Mind, was published in 2006.

India, France ink 14 pacts

India and France have singed 14 pacts for enhancing the bilateral cooperation various fields including defence, space, railways, education, Food safety, Public Administration, Cultural exchange, Science & Technology, etc.These agreements were signed between the two countries after extensive talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Francois Hollande. 

In the packs signed, India signed a pact to purchase 36 Rafale Aircrafts. Also, a pact was gigned in association with implementation arrangement between ISRO and CNES on hosting Argos-4 Payload onboard Oceansat-3 satellite of India. MoU between IIT Mumbai and Thales Systemes Aeroportes for Industry Sponsored Ph.D (Doctorate) Fellowship, cooperation agreement for joint research, teaching, exchange of personnel etc between IISER, Pune and ENS de Lyon (France) and agreement of Cooperation in the field of Higher Education & Research between IIT Mumbai and CNRS, TB, UBO, UBS,ENSTA Bretagne,ENIB (French Universities) were also signed.
