Prof. David R. Syiemlieh to perform duties of Chairman, UPSC

The President has appointed Prof. David R. Syiemlieh, Member, Union Public Service Commission, to perform the duties of the post of Chairman, Union Public Service Commission, with effect from the forenoon of January 4, 2017 till further orders or till completion of his term as member on 21.01.2018, whichever is earlier.
He studied in Dr Graham's Homes, Kalimpong (1958–1970) and graduated with history honours from St.Edmund's College, Shillong.
This was followed with a master's degree in History (1976), MPhil(1980) and PhD (1985) from the North Eastern Hill University, Shillong.
He taught undergraduates in St. Edmund's College (1977–1979) before joining the Department of History, NEHU, in 1979.
He rose in the profession to become Professor in the Department of History.

राष्ट्रपति प्रणब मुखर्जी ने प्रोफेसर डेविड आर. सिम्लिह को संघ लोक सेवा आयोग (यूपीएससी) का अध्यक्ष नियुक्त किया है.
●   सिम्लिह मेघालय से हैं और यूपीएससी के सदस्य रहे हैं.
●   राष्ट्रपति भवन की ओर से जारी एक बयान में कहा कि राष्ट्रपति ने संघ लोक सेवा आयोग के अध्यक्ष पद के कर्तव्यों के निर्वहन के लिए सिम्लिह की नियुक्ति की है.
●   सिम्लिह (63) चार जनवरी को कार्यभार ग्रहण करेंगे और 21 जनवरी, 2018 को सेवानिवृत्त होंगे.
●   वे अल्का सिरोही का स्थान लेंगे. अल्का बीते साल 21 सितंबर को यूपीएससी की अध्यक्ष बनी थीं.
●   उन्होंने डॉ ग्राहम के घर में, कलिम्पोंग में (1958-1970) का अध्ययन किया और सेंट. एडमंड कॉलेज, शिलांग से इतिहास में स्नातक किया ।
●   उन्होंने नॉर्थ ईस्टर्न हिल यूनिवर्सिटी, शिलांग से इतिहास में एक मास्टर की डिग्री (1976), एमफिल (1980) और पीएचडी (1985) किया ।
●   वह पेशे में फिर इतिहास विभाग में प्रोफेसर बने।

Shankar Balasubramanian received Knighthood

Shankar Balasubramanian, an Indian-origin British professor of chemistry and DNA expert at Cambridge University, has received a Knighthood along with Olympic stars Andy Murray and Mo Farah among others by Queen Elizabeth II for their contributions.
●   Prof. Balasubramanian (50), Herchel Smith Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at Cambridge University, has been recognised for his work as a co-inventor of Next Generation DNA sequencing, described as the most transformational advance in biology and medicine for decades.
●   Murray, Farah and British track and field athlete Jessica Ennis-Hill are among others honoured in the 2017 New Year Honours list, which also includes big names from the entertainment world, including actors Mark Rylance and Patricia Routledge.
●   Rio 2016 men’s tennis champion Murray and double gold- winning athlete Farah receive Knighthoods, while heptathlete Ennis-Hill becomes a Dame.

भारतीय मूल के प्रोफेसर शंकर बालासुब्रमण्यन को ब्रिटेन की महारानी एलिजाबेथ द्वितीय द्वारा नाईटहुड की उपाधि से सम्मानित किया गया. उन्हें यह सम्मान 30 दिसंबर 2016 को दिया गया.
●   प्रोफेसर शंकर बालासुब्रमण्यन को विज्ञान और चिकित्सा के क्षेत्र में योगदान के लिए यह पुरस्कार दिया गया.
●   पचास वर्षीय शंकर बालासुब्रमण्यन कैंब्रिज यूनिवर्सिटी में मेडिसिनल केमिस्ट्री के प्रोफेसर हैं. वे अगली पीढ़ी के लिए डीएनए का पता लगाने वाले वैज्ञानिकों के दल में शामिल रहे. डीएनए की नई खोज को चिकित्सा क्षेत्र में क्रन्तिकारी बदलाव लाने वाली खोज माना गया.
●   बालासुब्रमण्यन के अतिरिक्त ओलंपिक खिलाड़ी एंडी मरे, मो फाराह तथा जेसिका एनीस को भी नाईटहुड उपाधि से सम्मानित किया गया.
●   ब्रिटेन द्वारा जारी एक अन्य 2017 न्यू-इयर हॉनर सूची में अभिनेता मार्क रिलेंस तथा पेट्रिशिया रॉटलेज़ के नाम भी शामिल रहे.
●   ब्रिटेन द्वारा सम्मानित किये गये अन्य भारतीय मूल के पेशेवरों की सूची में शिक्षा विभाग के हरदीप सिंह बघेल तथा क्वीन मैरी यूनिवर्सिटी के प्रोफेसर कमलदीप सिंह को नाइट्स कमांडर ऑफ द आर्डर ऑफ द ब्रिटिश एम्पायर (सीबीई) सूची में स्थान दिया गया.
●   यूरोपीय संसद की सदस्य नीना गिल, वंड्सवर्थ काउंसिल के रविंद्र गोविंदा और कार्डिफ यूनिवर्सिटी की अनीता थापर भी सूची में शामिल रहीं. ऑर्डर ऑफ द ब्रिटिश एम्पायर (ओबीई) सम्मान पाने वाले भारतीय मूल के लोगों में पीजी पेपर कंपनी की सीईओ पूनम गुप्ता, निष्काम स्कूल ट्रस्ट के सीईओ ब्रिन्दर सिंह मोहन, यार्कशायर जेल के अधिकारी अवतार सिंह पूरेवाल और सिटी सिख्स के संस्थापक अध्यक्ष जसवीर सिंह भी शामिल हैं.

Somdev Devvarman Announces retirement from professional tennis

India’s star singles player Somdev Devvarman announced his retirement from professional tennis, bringing an abrupt end to what was once a promising career.
●   The 31-year-old’s career was hampered by a recurring shoulder injury in 2012.
●   He recovered to stage a comeback but he had been missing from action without any specified reason for some time now.
●   There is speculation that he might take to coaching from here on.
●   Somdev was India’s star singles player since he first broke into the scene in 2008.
●   A regular in India’s Davis Cup squad, Somdev appeared in 14 rubbers and played a crucial role in India reaching the World Group back in 2010.

भारत के स्टार खिलाड़ी सोमदेव देववर्मन ने पेशेवर टेनिस से संन्यास की घोषणा की

भारत के स्टार एकल खिलाड़ी सोमदेव देववर्मन ने आज पेशेवर टेनिस से संन्यास लेने की घोषणा की.
●   इस 31 वर्षीय खिलाड़ी का करियर 2012 में कंधे में बार बार वापसी करने वाली चोट से थम गया. वह वापसी करने के लिये चोट से उबर गए थे लेकिन पिछले कुछ समय से बिना किसी विशेष कारण के टेनिस से दूर रहे.
●   ऐसी भी अटकलें हैं कि वह अब कोचिंग की जिम्मेदारी ले सकते हैं. सोमदेव ने जब 2008 में टेनिस में पदार्पण किया था, तब से वह भारत के स्टार एकल खिलाड़ी थे.
●   भारत की डेविस कप टीम के नियमित सदस्य सोमदेव 14 मुकाबलों में खेल चुके हैं और 2010 में भारत को विश्व ग्रुप में पहुंचाने में उन्होंने अहम भूमिका अदा की थी.
●   सोमदेव दो एटीपी टूर-2009 चेन्नई ओपन में बतौर वाइल्ड कार्ड और 2011 दक्षिण अफ्रीका ओपन-के फाइनल में पहुंचे थे. वह चीन के ग्वांग्झू में हुए 2010 एशियाई खेलों के एकल और युगल स्वर्ण पदकधारी हैं.
●   वर्ष 2008 में एनसीएए पुरुष टेनिस चैंपियनशिप में बनाया गया उनका जीत-हार का 44-1 रिकॉर्ड अभी तक कायम है. उन्हें 2011 में देश के दूसरे सर्वोच्च खेल सम्मान अर्जुन पुरस्कार से नवाजा गया था.

Apple to make iPhones in Bengaluru

Apple, the American multinational technology company is all set to manufacture iPhones in the Indian city of Bengaluru.
●   The company is going to manufacture the iconic phones in the country in collaboration with Wistron, a Taiwanese original design manufacturer. The move is a part of the company’s efforts to cash in on India’s fast-growing smartphone market.
●   Wistron is planning to set up an iPhone manufacturing plant, especially for the Indian market in Bangalore’s Peenya Industrial Area.
●   The manufacturer would start work with the assembling of the phones.
●   Local manufacturing of the iPhones is expected to help Apple price its products at a rate more suitable to the Indian market.
●   Currently, Apple products attract 12.5% additional duty on imports.
●   The company chose Bengaluru to set up the unit because it has the talent required to create high-quality technology products.
●   This is not Apple’s first project in the city, as previously in May 2016, the company had announced the setting up of a design and development accelerator in the city in order to help grow the iOS developer community there.
●   The announcement for the same was made during the company’s CEO Tim Cook’s visit to India.

एप्पल कंपनी भारत के आईफोन बनाने की योजना के साथ प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के मेक इन इंडिया अभियान का हिस्सा बनने जा रही है।
●   एप्पल के लिए ओइएम यानी ओरिजिनल इक्विपमेंट मैन्युफैक्चरर का काम करने वाली ताइवान की कंपनी विस्ट्रॉन ने पीन्या में आईफोन बनाने के लिए फैसिलिटी सेंटर का काम शुरू कर दिया है।
●   पीन्या बेंगलुरु का इंडस्ट्रियल हब कहा जाता है।
●   अप्रैल 2017 से यहां आईफोन निर्माण का काम शुरु हो सकता है।
●   एप्पल भारत में जल्द से जल्द निर्माण कार्य शुरु करना चाहती है।
●   अगले साल के अंत तक भारत में पूरी तरह से आईफोन का निर्माण कार्य शुरु हो जाए।
●   अगर भारत में आईफोन की मैन्यूफैक्चरिंग होती है, तो वो कीमतों के मामले में भी दूसरी स्मार्टफोन कंपनियों को कड़ी टक्कर देगी।
●   एप्पल कंपनी जब भारत में अपने फोन भेजती है, तो उसे 12.5 फीसदी की इंपोर्ट ड्यूटी चुकानी पड़ती है। लेकिन अगर भारत में आईफोन बनने लगेंगे, तो कंपनी को किसी तरह का टैक्स नहीं देना होगा। जिससे आईफोन की कीमतों में भी गिरावट आ जाएगी।

CSL completes delivery of 20 FPVs to Indian Coast Guard

The Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has delivered ICGS AYUSH, the 20th Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) to the Indian Coast Guard.
●   With this, CSL has completed construction of 20 FPVs for the Indian Coast Guard. ICGS Ayush will be operated from the Coast Guard Station at Krishnapatanam.
●   It is last in the series (CSL Yard No BY 520) and was delivered three months ahead of schedule.
●   Cochin Shipyard Limited was awarded the contract of constructing 20 FPVs in October 2010.
●   CSL had delivered the first vessel in September 2013 and subsequently delivered vessels at about two months interval.
●   CSL started delivering vessels ahead of schedule from the 13th vessel onwards. These vessels are 50 metre length and 7.6 metre beam.
●   They are small in size compared to the large vessels that CSL had been building.
●   The FPVs will help to secure Indian waters by patrolling within Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), coastal patrol.

सीएसएल ने भारतीय तटरक्षक बल को तेज गति वाले 20 गश्ती पोत एफपीवी की डिलीवरी की

कोचीन शिपयार्ड लिमिटेड (सीएसएल) ने भारतीय तटरक्षक बल को आज आईसीजीएस अरिंजय पोत की डिलीवरी की। यह तेज गति से गश्ती करने वाले 20 पोतों की श्रंखला में 20वां पोत है।
●   तय समय से दो महीने पहले ही सीएसएल ने गश्ती पोत की डिलीवरी की है।
●   इस पोत का परिचालन गुजरात के ओखा स्थित कोस्ट गार्ड स्टेशन से किया जाएगा।
●   इन पोतों का इस्तेमाल तस्करी रोकने, समुद्री डाकुओं पर नजर रखने और राहत एवं बचाव कार्यों आदि के लिए विशेष आर्थिक जोन में किया जाएगा।
●   इस के साथ, सीएसएल भारतीय तटरक्षक बल के लिए 20 एफपीवी का निर्माण पूरा कर लिया है। आईसीजीएस आयुष कृष्णपट्नम में तट रक्षक स्टेशन से संचालित किया जाएगा।
●   यह श्रृंखला (कोई 520 से सीएसएल यार्ड) तीन महीने के तय समय से पहले दिया गया ।
●   कोचीन शिपयार्ड लिमिटेड अक्टूबर 2010 में 20 एफपीवी के निर्माण का अनुबंध से सम्मानित किया गया।
●   सीएसएल ने सितंबर 2013 में पहला पोत बनाया था और बाद में करीब दो महीने के अंतराल पर दिया वाहिकाओं का निर्माण किया ।
●   सीएसएल ने बाद में 13 वीं पोत तय समय से पहले वाहिकाओं पहुंचाने शुरू कर दिया। इन जहाजों में 50 मीटर की लंबाई और 7.6 मीटर रे हैं।

Shri Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi Launches Haj Committee of India Mobile App

The Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs (Independent Charge) and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi launched Haj Committee of India Mobile App at Haj House in Mumbai today. Speaking on the occasion, he said that it is for the first time that Haj application process is going to be digital. This mobile app will available on Google Playstore from today (2nd January 2017). Next Haj has already been announced and application will be accepted from today. The last date for submitting applications is 24th January.
The Ministry of Minority Affairs has joined digital India campaign in a big way, he added. Several processes have been made in this regard. The Centre has been encouraging online applications to ensure fair opportunity for the pilgrimage with complete transparency and comfort.
●   Applying for Haj, enquiry and information, news and updates and e-payment are main features of Haj Committee of India Mobile App. Application for Haj can be made directly from the app. Five adults and two infants can apply together as a group. A PDF copy of the form will go to applicant’s email. After affixing the photo, the printout with documents is to be sent to the state haj committees. Registration fees can also be made through this app.
●   During Haj 2016, about 45,843 people had applied for Haj online which was about 11 per cent of total applications received from across the nation for Haj. Efforts are on to make the process of online application simple and easy so that more and more people can apply online for next Haj pilgrimage. Maharashtra topped in online applications for Haj 2016 with a total of 10,960 people applying online followed by Kerala with 9257 online applications and Uttar Pradesh with 5407; 2983 from Telangana; 2426 from Jammu and Kashmir and 2425 online applications had been received from Gujarat.
●   About 99,903 people went to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for Haj from 21 embarkation points across India through Haj Committee of India during Haj 2016. Apart from this, about 36,000 Haj pilgrims had proceeded for Haj through the private tour operators.

श्री मुख्तार अब्बास नकवी ने भारतीय हज कमैटी मोबाइल एप का शुभारंभ किया

केंद्रीय अल्पसंख्यक मामलों (स्वतंत्र प्रभार) और संसदीय कार्य राज्यमंत्री श्री मुख्तार अब्बास नकवी ने आज मुंबई के हज हाउस में भारतीय हज कमैटी मोबाइल ऐप का शुभारंभ किया। इस अवसर पर उन्होंने कहा कि ऐसा पहली बार हुआ है कि हज आवेदन प्रक्रिया डिजिटल होने जा रही है। यह मोबाइल एप आज से गूगल प्लेस्टोर पर उपलब्ध होगा। अगली हज की पहले ही घोषणा की जा चुकी है और इसके लिए आवेदन आज से स्वीकार किए जाएंगे। आवेदन जमा करने की अंतिम तिथि 24 जनवरी है।
●   अल्पसंख्यक कार्य मंत्रालय ने बड़े पैमाने में डिजिटल इंडिया अभियान में भागीदारी की है। इस बारे में अनेक प्रक्रियाएं की गई हैं। केंद्र सरकार पूरी पारदर्शिता और सहजता के साथ यात्रा के उचित अवसर सुनिश्चित कराने के लिए ऑनलाइन आवेदनों को प्रोत्साहित कर रही है।
●   हज के लिए आवेदन करना, जांच और सूचना, समाचार और अद्यतन जानकारियां तथा ई-भुगतान भारतीय हज कमैटी मोबाइल एप की मुख्य विशेषताएं हैं। हज के लिए आवेदन सीधे ही एप से किया जा सकता है। 5 व्यस्क और शिशुओं का समूह एक साथ आवेदन कर सकता है। फॉर्म की पीडीएफ प्रति आवेदक के ई-मेल पर भेजी जाएगी। फोटो लगाने के बाद दस्तावेजों के साथ प्रिंटआउट राज्य हज कमैटियों को भेजा जाएगा। पंजीकरण शुल्क का भुगतान भी इस एप के माध्यम से किया जा सकता है।
●   श्री नकवी ने कहा कि पिछले महीनें हज की एक नई वेबसाइट का नई दिल्ली में शुभारंभ किया गया था। ये वेबसाइट हिन्दी, उर्दू और अंग्रेजी भाषाओं में है, जो हज के संबंध में सभी आवश्यक जानकारी उपलब्ध कराएगी।
●   हज यात्रा 2016 के दौरान 45,843 लोगों ने हज ऑनलाइन पर आवेदन किया था, जो पूरे देश में हज के लिए प्राप्त होने वाले कुल आवेदनों का लगभग 11 प्रतिशत था। ऑनलाइन आवेदन को सरल और सहज बनाने की प्रक्रिया के लिए प्रयास किए जा रहे हैं ताकि अधिक से अधिक लोग अगली हज यात्रा के लिए ऑनलाइन आवेदन कर सकें। महाराष्ट्र से हज 2016 के लिए सर्वाधिक 10,960 लोगों ने ऑनलाइन आवेदन किए थे। इसके बाद केरल से 9257, उत्तर प्रदेश से 54,07, तेलंगाना से 2983 , जम्मू-कश्मीर से 2426 और गुजरात से 2425 ऑनलाइन आवेदन प्राप्त हुए थे।
●   हज यात्रा 2016 के दौरान भारतीय हज कमैटी के माध्यम से देश भर के 21 स्थानों से लगभग 99903 व्यक्ति हज के लिए जद्दाह , सउदी अरब गए थे। इसके अलावा 36,000 हज यात्री निजी टूर ऑपरेटरों के माध्यम से हज के लिए गए थे।

●   वर्तमान नियुक्ति से पूर्व सुश्री प्रीति सदन ने महिला एवं बाल विकास मंत्रालय और रक्षा मंत्रालय सहित केंद्रीय मंत्रालयों/विभागों में विभिन्न पदों पर कार्य किया है।
●   33 वर्षों से अधिक के अपने कैरियर के दौरान, सुश्री सदन आंध्र प्रदेश के अपने कैडर राज्य में विभिन्न पदों पर कार्य किया है।
●   उन्होंने राजस्व विभाग, आपदा प्रबंधन विभाग, स्वास्थ्य एवं परिवार कल्याण, वित्त, बीज/कृषि निगम सहित विभिन्न विभागों में कार्य किया।
●   सुश्री प्रीति सदन ने अर्थशास्त्र में एम.फिल किया है। सुश्री सूडान हिन्दी, अंग्रेजी, पंजाबी और तेलुगू में निपुण हैं।

Trash Skimmers to be Introduced In Six New Cities for Surface Cleaning Of Ganga

National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) will introduce trash skimmers for surface cleaning of Ganga in six more cities in the first week of this month.
●   The cities are Rishikesh, Haridwar, Garh Mukhteshwar, Sahibganj, Kolkata and Navdweep.
●   Urban Local Bodies will be the nodal agency to monitor this work. State Programme Management Groups (SPMGs) and Collectorate office will be supervising these works under the aegis of NMCG at State and district level respectively.
●   River Surface Cleaning (RSC) work was introduce last year in Allahabad, Kanpur, Varanasi, Mathura-Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh and Patna in Bihar.
●   Trash skimmers were deployed at the foregoing locations and tonnes of floating waste was collected and disposed off in a proper manner.
●   This task was performed under the CSR head and proved to be extremely effective. In the coming days, more towns will be identified for carrying out similar activities.
●   Namami Gange programme was launched as a mission to achieve the target of cleaning river Ganga in an effective manner with the unceasing involvement of all stakeholders, especially five major Ganga basin States – Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal.

छह नए शहरों में गंगा की सतह की सफाई के लिए ट्रेश स्कीमर लगाए जाएंगे

राष्ट्रीय स्वच्छ गंगा मिशन इस महीने के पहले सप्ताह से ऋषिकेश, हरिद्वार, गढ़मुक्तेश्वर, साहिबगंज, कोलकाता और नवद्वीप में ट्रेश स्कीमर से गंगा के सतह की सफाई का कार्य शुरू करने जा रहा है।
●   यह कार्य शहरी स्थानीय निकायों की देखरेख में किया जाएगा और इसकी निगरानी के लिए राष्ट्रीय और राज्य स्तर पर समितियों का गठन किया गया है।
●   राज्य स्तर पर प्रधान सचिव की अध्यक्षता में राज्य कार्यक्रम प्रबंधन ग्रुप द्वारा निगरानी की जाएगी। जिला स्तर पर जिलाधीश की अध्यक्षता में समिति द्वारा निगरानी रखी जाएगी।
●   नदी की सतह की सफाई के लिए पिछले वर्ष इलाहाबाद, कानपुर, वाराणसी, मथुरा, वृन्दावन और पटना में ट्रेश स्कीमर से सफाई का कार्य निगमित सामाजिक उत्तरदायित्वि के तहत शुरू किया गया था।
●   इस दौरान टनों मात्रा में कचरा इकट्ठा कर निर्धारित स्थानों पर पहुंचाया गया था। इसके बहुत अच्छे परिणाम देखने को मिले थे।
●   आने वाले समय में अन्य चयनित शहरों में भी ट्रेश स्कीमर से नदी की सतह की सफाई शुरू की जाएगी।
●   नमामि गंगे कार्यक्रम गंगा नदी को बचाने का एक एकीकृत प्रयास है और इसके अंतर्गत व्यापक तरीके से गंगा की सफाई करने को प्रमुखता दी गई है।
●   इस कार्यक्रम के अंतर्गत नदी की सतही गंदगी की सफाई सीवरेज उपचार के लिए बुनियादी ढांचे, नदी तट विकास, जैव विविधता, वनीकरण और जन जागरूकता जैसी प्रमुख गतिविधियां शामिल हैं।

Air Marshal SB Deo takes over as Vice Chief of the Air Staff of Indian Air Force

Air Marshal SB Deo PVSM AVSM VM VSM ADC paid homage at Amar Jawan Jyoti, India Gate this morning before taking over as Vice Chief of the Air Staff (VCAS) at Air HQ, today. On his arrival at the Air Headquarters (Vayu Bhawan), the Air Marshal was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour.
●   Air Marshal SB Deo was commissioned as a fighter pilot in the IAF on 15 Jun 79. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy and the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. He is a FCL (Fighter Combat Leader) and a “Cat A” Qualified Flying Instructor with over 3800 hours of operational and training flying. He was also Directing Staff at TACDE.
●   Air Marshal SB Deo has been AOC of a major fighter base. He commanded a Mig-21 BISON Squadron and a Signal Unit besides being the Chief Ops Officer of a forward base. As Station Commander of the Signal Unit he was actively involved in the induction of modern assets and sensors in the IAF.
●   Prior to taking over as VCAS, he was the AOC-in-C of Western Air Command (WAC), AOC-in-C, Eastern Air Command (EAC), DG Air (Ops), AOC COBRA Group, AD Commander & Air I at HQ CAC and has held various staff appointments and worked in Ops/Plans Directorates at Air HQ (VB).
●   In recognition of his meritorious service and exceptional professionalism, he was awarded Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Vayu Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal and ADC by the President of India.
●   He is married to Mrs Anjana Deo, they have a son who is a fighter pilot in the IAF. Air Marshal Deo is an avid reader and interested in creative writing and technology.

पीवीएसएम एवीएसएम वीएम वीएसएम एडीसी एयर मार्शल एसबी देव ने आज वायुसेना मुख्यालय में वायुसेना उप-प्रमुख का कार्यभार सँभाल लिया। वायुसेना उप-प्रमुख का पदभार संभालने से पूर्व उन्होंने आज सुबह इंडिया गेट स्थित अमर जवान ज्योति पर श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित की। वायुसेना मुख्यालय (वायु भवन) में उनके आगमन पर एयर मार्शल को एक औपचारिक गार्ड ऑफ ऑनर दिया गया।
●   एयर मार्शल एसबी देव को 15 जून 1979 को भारतीय वायुसेना में एक लड़ाकू पायलट के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया था। वह राष्ट्रीय रक्षा अकादमी और डिफेंस सर्विसेज स्टाफ कॉलेजवेलिंगटन के छात्र रह चुके हैं। वह 3800 से अधिक घंटे के उड़ान संचालन और प्रशिक्षण उड़ान के साथ एक एफसीएल (फाइटर कॉम्बेट लीडर) और एक "कैट ए" अहर्ताप्राप्त फ्लाइंग प्रशिक्षक हैं।
●   एयर मार्शल एसबी देव एक प्रमुख फाइटर बेस के एओसी भी रहे हैं। उन्होंने मिग-21 बीआईएसओएन स्क्वाड्रन की कमान के अलावा एक सिंगल यूनिट और एक फॉरवरर्ड बेस के प्रमुख अभियान अधिकारी की भी कमान संभाली है। सिग्नल यूनिट के स्टेशन कमांडर के रूप में उन्होंने भारतीय वायु सेना में आधुनिक परिसंपत्तियों और सेंसरों को शामिल करने में सक्रिय भूमिका निभाई।
●   वायुसेना उपप्रमुख के तौर पर पदभार संभालने से पहले वे पश्चिमी वायु कमान (डब्ल्यूएसी) के एओसी-इन-सी, पूर्वी वायु कमान (ईएसी) एओसी-इन-सी, वायु सेना (संचालन) के महानिदेशक, एओसी कोबरा ग्रुप, एडी कमांडर और सीएसी मुख्यालय में एयर आई और विभिन्न स्टाफ नियुक्तियों पर कार्यभार सँभाला और वायुसेना मुख्यालय (वीबी) में ऑपरेशन/प्लान्स निदेशालय में कार्य किया।
●   उनकी सराहनीय सेवा और असाधारण कार्य के लिए उन्हें राष्ट्रपति के द्वारा परम विशिष्ट सेवा पदक, अति विशिष्ट सेवा पदक, वायु सेना पदक, विशिष्ट सेवा पदक और एडीसी से सम्मानित किया गया।
●   उनकी पत्नी श्रीमती अंजना देव हैं, उनके एक पुत्र भारतीय वायुसेना में एक लड़ाकू पायलट हैं। एयर मार्शल देव एक प्रबुद्ध पाठक हैं और रचनात्मक लेखन और प्रौद्योगिकी के क्षेत्र में रुचि रखते हैं।

RBI announces facility for NRIs to exchange old notes

RBI came out with conditions for exchange of defunct notes for those, including non-resident Indians, who failed to do so till yesterday, the last day for depositing the invalid currency notes in banks.
●   Resident Indian citizens who were abroad from November 9 to December 30 can avail this facility up to March 31, 2017 and NRI citizens, who were abroad during this period, can exchange their defunct notes up to June 30, 2017, RBI said in a late evening statement.
●   Citizens can avail this facility in their individual capacity once during the period on submission of ID documents, and on submission of documentary evidence showing they were abroad during the period and that they have not availed the exchange facility earlier.
●   On fulfillment of the terms and conditions and the genuineness of the notes tendered, it said, adding admissible amount will be credited to the tenderer's KYC compliant bank account.
●   This facility will be available through Reserve Bank offices at Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Nagpur.

भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक ने एनआरआई को पुराने नोट बदलने का सीमा अवधि बढाए

विमुद्रीकरण पश्चात चलन से बाहर हुए पांच सौ और एक हजार के पुराने नोटों को बदलने की समयसीमा बढ़ाते हुए भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक ने प्रवासी भारतीयों सहित ऐसे नोट बदलने से वंचित लोगों को बड़ी राहत दी हैं।
●   भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक द्वारा जारी एक बयान में कहा गया है कि जो भारतीय नागरिक 9 नवंबर से 30 दिसंबर तक विदेश में थे, वे इस सुविधा का लाभ 31 मार्च 2017 तक उठा सकते हैं और प्रवासी भारतीय जो इस अवधि के दौरान विदेश में थे, वे चलन से बाहर हुए अपने नोट 30 जून 2017 तक बदल सकते हैं।
●   पात्र निवासी भारतीयों के लिए नोट बदलने की कोई सीमा नहीं है, प्रवासी भारतीयों के लिए यह संबंधित फेमा नियमों के तहत (25 हजार रुपये प्रति व्यक्ति) होगी।
●   भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक ने कहा कि नागरिक इस सुविधा का इस्तेमाल अपनी निजी क्षमता में इस अवधि के दौरान एक बार कर सकते हैं।
●   उन्हें इसके लिए पहचान पत्र के साथ ही इसका सबूत मुहैया कराना होगा कि वे अवधि के दौरान विदेश में थे और उन्होंने नोट बदलने की सुविधा का इस्तेमाल इससे पहले नहीं किया है।
