NATIONAL:
India drops to 7th largest economy in 2018, UK and France overtake.
• India's economy has been pushed to the seventh spot in GDP rankings in 2018 with the UK and France overtaking the country, the latest World Bank data showed. India's GDP was $2.73 trillion while that of UK was $2.83 trillion and France was $2.77 trillion. India had surpassed France and then the UK in 2017 to become the fifth-largest economy.
PM chaired the th PRAGATI interaction.
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi headed the 30th PRAGATI platform interaction. PRAGATI is the Information and communications technology (ICT)- based, multi-modal platform for Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation. This is the first PRAGATI interaction of the new government.
In the session, Narendra Modi reviewed the progress in the resolution of grievances under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). He urged to achieve the government's objective of providing 'Housing for All by 2022'. He also suggested further improvements under the Ayushmann Bharat Scheme.
He reviewed the progress of eight important infrastructure projects in the railway and road sectors spread over several states including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat.
BANKS AND ECONOMICS:
RBI relaxes ECB norms.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has further relaxed the norms related to external commercial borrowing (ECB). It loosened the end-use restrictions with regard to working capital, general corporate purpose and repayment of rupee loans. The move comes after RBI received feedback from stakeholders.
♦ As per the relaxation, all the eligible borrowers are allowed to raise following ECBs from recognised lenders with a minimum average maturity period of 10 years for working capital purposes and general corporate purposes. The foreign branches and overseas subsidiaries of Indian banks are exempted.
♦ It also permits borrowing for on-lending by NBFCs for the above maturity and end-uses.
♦ Borrowers are allowed to raise ECBs with a minimum average maturity period of 7 years for repayment of rupee loans that can be availed domestically for capital expenditure.
Ministry of Finance to conduct Indias first national Time Release Study for efficient trade flow.
• The Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance plans to conduct India’s first national Time Release Study (TRS) between 1st and 7th August, 2019. The study is a part of the department's strategic commitment to improve the global trade.
Time Release Study (TRS):
The TRS is an internationally recognized tool to measure the efficiency of the international trade flows. It is advocated by the World Customs Organization.
Aim:
The exercise aims to identify and remove the obstacles that are present in the trade flow. The exercise will benefit from the export oriented industry and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).
Analysis:
The national TRS will establish baseline performance measurement. It will also standardize the operations and procedures across all ports. The Ministry will conduct the exercise across 15 ports, including sea, air, land and dry ports at the same time. The ports cumulatively account for 81% of total Bills of Entries for import and 67% of Shipping Bills for export filed within India.
Depending on the results of the TRS, government agencies associated with cross border trade will diagnose the existing and potential bottlenecks that are barriers to the free flow of trade. The government will take remedial actions for reducing the cargo release time.
APPOINTMENTS AND RESIGNATIONS:
Cognizant’s Debashis becomes Mindtree’s 3rd CEO in its 20-yr history.
• IT services firm Mindtree on Friday named Debashis Chatterjee as its new Managing Director and CEO. Chatterjee, who previously led the digital systems and technology practice at Cognizant, will become Mindtree's third CEO in its two-decade existence. He replaces Rostow Ravanan, who quit along with Chairman Krishnakumar Natarajan and Vice Chairman NS Parthasarathy after L&T's hostile takeover
Mohapatra takes charge as DG of India Meteorological Department.
• Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, 54, took charge as the Director General (DG) of India Meteorological Department (IMD), New Delhi. He was appointed as DG by the Ministry of Personnel on 4 June 2019. He will replace K.J. Ramesh, who headed the weather department for over three years. IMD is to request the government to bring new technology for the weather forecasting and provide accurate information of weather.
Mrutyunjay Mohapatra:
• Mohapatra is Odisha-born scientist. He is the first Odia to reach at the top position in IMD. He has led the effective early warning systems for cyclones, including Phailin, Hudhud, Vardah, Titli, Sagar, Mekunu and Fani.

• India-born doctor Bhasha Mukherjee was crowned Miss England 2019 on Thursday at a ceremony in Newcastle. The 23-year-old moved to England with her parents at the age of nine and settled in Derby. Mukherjee holds two different medical degrees, one in medical sciences and the other in medicine and surgery.

विश्व की सातवीं सबसे बड़ी इकॉनमी है भारत
• सकल घरेलू उत्पाद यानी जीडीपी की वैश्विक रैंकिंग में भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था फिसलकर सातवें नंबर पर आ गई है। वित्त वर्ष 2018 के लिए विश्व बैंक के आंकड़ों के मुताबिक जीडीपी के मामले में भारत सातवें नंबर पर, जबकि ब्रिटेन और फ्रांस क्रमशः पांचवें और छठे स्थान पर पहुंच गए हैं। साल 2017 में भारत फ्रांस को पछाड़कर आगे पहुंचा था, लेकिन इस बार फिसल गया है।
जीडीपी के मामले में अमेरिकी अर्थव्यवस्था टॉप पर बनी हुई है। कारोबारी साल 2018 में यूएस की जीडीपी 20.5 ट्रिलियन डॉलर रही। अमेरिका के बाद दसरे पायदान पर चीन है। इस दौरान चीन की जीडीपी 13.6 ट्रिलियन डॉलर रही। 5 ट्रिलियन डॉलर की जीडीपी के साथ जापान तीसरे पायदान पर है। ब्रिटेन और फ्रांस 2.8 ट्रिलियन डॉलर की जीडीपी के साथ इस लिस्ट में पांचवें और छठे पायदान पर हैं, जबकि भारत की जीडीपी 2.7 ट्रिलियन डॉलर दर्ज की गई।
प्रगति बैठक: PM मोदी ने कहा- 2022 तक सभी को मिले आवास, हर बाधा दूर करें अफसर
• प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने अपने दूसरे कार्यकाल की पहली प्रगति बैठक में 2022 तक सभी के लिए आवास की प्रतिबद्धता दोहराई और अधिकारियों को इस उद्देश्य को हासिल करने की दिशा में मेहनत से कार्य करने और रास्ते में आने वाली सभी बाधाओं को दूर करने को कहा. पीएमओ के बयान के अनुसार, प्रधानमंत्री ने आयुष्मान भारत और सुगम भारत अभियान जैसी प्रमुख योजनाओं की प्रगति की समीक्षा की. इसके अलावा उन्होंने राज्यों का आह्वान किया कि वे वर्तमान मानसून के दौरान जल संरक्षण पर अधिकतम ध्यान दें. बता दें मोदी ने पिछले कार्यकाल में 29 प्रगति बैठकों में 12 लाख करोड़ रुपए से अधिक के कुल निवेश के साथ 257 परियोजनाओं की समीक्षा की थी.
• प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने आईसीटी आधारित मल्टी मॉडल प्लेटफॉर्म- ‘ प्रगति’ के जरिए आज 30वीं बैठक की अध्यक्षता की. केंद्र सरकार के नए कार्यकाल में यह पहली प्रगति बैठक थी. नरेन्द्र मोदी ने प्रधानमंत्री आवास योजना (शहरी) से जुड़ी शिकायतों के समाधान की समीक्षा की.
• पीएम ने केंद्र सरकार के संकल्प को दोहराया कि कोई भी परिवार 2022 तक बेघर नहीं रहेगा और अधिकारियों को प्रेरित किया कि वे इस उद्देश्य को हासिल करने की दिशा में मेहनत से कार्य करें, और रास्ते में आऩे वाली सभी बाधाओं को खत्म करें. प्रधानमंत्री ने वित्तीय सेवाओं के विभाग से जुड़ी जन शिकायतों के समाधान की भी समीक्षा की.

मौद्रिक नीति अर्थव्यवस्था पर कैसे असर डालती है
भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक (आरबीआई) हर दूसरे महीने मौद्रिक नीति की समीक्षा करता है. इस पर करीबी नजर होती है. इसमें अर्थव्यवस्था की स्थिति को देखते हुए नीतिगत ब्याज दरें घटाने या बढ़ाने का फैसला किया जाता है. यह फैसला केंद्रीय बैंक की मौद्रिक नीति समिति (एमपीसी) लेती है. इसका अर्थव्यवस्था पर व्यापक असर पड़ता है. आइए जानते हैं क्या है मौद्रिक नीति और कैसे अर्थव्यवस्था में नकदी को बढ़ाने और घटाने के लिए केंद्रीय बैंक इसका इस्तेमाल करता है.
1. मौद्रिक नीति ऐसी प्रक्रिया है, जिसकी मदद से रिजर्व बैंक अर्थव्यवस्था में पैसे की आपूर्ति को नियंत्रित करता है.
2. मौद्रिक नीति से कई मकसद साधे जाते हैं. इनमें महंगाई पर अंकुश, कीमतों में स्थिरता और टिकाऊ आर्थिक विकास दर का लक्ष्य हासिल करना शामिल है. रोजगार के अवसर तैयार करना भी इसके उद्देश्यों में से एक है.
3. अर्थव्यवस्था में पैसे की आपूर्ति पर बैंकों के कैश रिजर्व रेशियो या ओपन मार्केट आपरेशन से सीधे असर डाला जा सकता है. रेपो रेट और रिवर्स रेपो रेट के जरिए कर्ज की लागत को बढ़ाया या घटाया जा सकता
भारत सीमा के पार कार्गो की तेज आवाजाही को सक्षम करने के लिए पहला राष्ट्रीय टाइम रिलीज स्टडी आयोजित करेगा
• भारत ने सीमाओं के पार कार्गो की तेज आवाजाही को सक्षम करने के लिए पहला राष्ट्रीय टाइम रिलीज स्टडी आयोजित करेगा। इस कदम से माइक्रो स्माल एंड मीडियम एंटरप्राइजेज (MSMEs) सहित निर्यात उन्मुख उद्योगों को लाभ होगा।
• वित्त मंत्रालय के अधीन राजस्व विभाग, वैश्विक व्यापार में सुधार के लिए अपनी रणनीतिक प्रतिबद्धता के हिस्से के रूप में, भारत का पहला राष्ट्रीय टाइम रिलीज स्टडी (TRS) आयोजित कर रहा है। यह 1 अगस्त से 7 अगस्त तक आयोजित किया जाएगा।
• इस पहल के अपेक्षित लाभार्थी निर्यातोन्मुखी उद्योग और एमएसएमई होंगे, जो तुलनीय अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मानकों के साथ भारतीय प्रक्रियाओं के अधिक मानकीकरण का लाभ उठाएंगे।
• इस अभ्यास को वार्षिक आधार पर उसी अवधि के दौरान हर वर्ष संस्थागत रूप दिया जाएगा। टीआरएस अंतर्राष्ट्रीय व्यापार प्रवाह की दक्षता और प्रभावशीलता को मापने के लिए विश्व सीमा शुल्क संगठन द्वारा सुझाया गया एक अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मान्यता प्राप्त उपकरण है।
• यह पहल माल की निकासी में नियम आधारित और प्रक्रियागत अड़चनों को माप देगी, जब तक कि कार्गो की भौतिक रिलीज नहीं हो जाती। इसका उद्देश्य व्यापार प्रवाह प्रक्रिया में बाधाओं की पहचान करना और उनका पता लगाना और कुशल व्यापार नियंत्रण से समझौता किए बिना सीमा प्रक्रियाओं की प्रभावशीलता और दक्षता में सुधार के लिए आवश्यक नीति और संचालन उपाय करना है।
नियुक्तिया एवं त्यागपत्र:
देवाशीष चटर्जी माइंडट्री के नए सीईओ-एमडी नियुक्त, इससे पहले कॉग्निजेंट में प्रेसिडेंट थे
• आईटी कंपनी माइंडट्री ने देवाशीष चटर्जी को नया सीईओ और एमडी नियुक्त किया है। चटर्जी इससे पहले अमेरिकी आईटी कंपनी कॉग्निजेंट में प्रेसिडेंट (ग्लोबल डिलीवरी) थे। 5 जुलाई को रोस्तो रावणन के इस्तीफे के बाद सीईओ का पद खाली हुआ था। रावणन लार्सन एंड टूब्रो द्वारा माइंडट्री का अधिग्रहण किए जाने के खिलाफ थे।
माइंडट्री ने लार्सन एंड टूब्रो (एलएंडटी) के सीईओ और एमडी एस एन सुब्रमणयन को नॉन-एग्जीक्यूटिव वाइस चेयरमैन बनाया है। कंपनी ने बताया कि दोनों नियुक्तियां शुक्रवार से प्रभावी हो गई हैं।
लार्सन एंड टूब्रो ने इसी साल माइंडट्री का टेकओवर किया है। 16 जुलाई को वह माइंडट्री की प्रमोटर कंपनी बन गई। यह देश की आईटी इंडस्ट्री में पहला होस्टाइल टेकओवर था। होस्टाइल इसलिए क्योंकि, एलएंडटी ने कंपनी से डील की बजाय सीधे शेयरधारकों और ओपन मार्केट से हिस्सेदारी खरीदी थी।
एलएंडटी ने मार्च में कॉफी डे एंटरप्राइजेज के दिवंगत चेयरमैन वीजी सिद्धार्थ से माइंडट्री के 20.32% शेयर 3,000 करोड़ रुपए में खरीदे थे। बाद में ओपन मार्केट से अतिरिक्त शेयर खरीदकर अपनी हिस्सेदारी 60% कर ली थी। पिछले महीने एलएंडटी के तीन अधिकारी- सुब्रमणयन, जयंत दामोदर और राममूर्ति शंकर रमण माइंडट्री के बोर्ड में शामिल किए गए थे।

• IAS अधिकारी गुरुप्रसाद महापात्र ने उद्योग और आंतरिक व्यापार को बढ़ावा देने के लिए विभाग के सचिव के रूप में पदभार ग्रहण किया।

भारतीय मूल की डॉक्टर भाषा मुखर्जी को मिला मिस इंग्लैंड का खिताब
• भारतीय मूल की 23 वर्षीय डॉक्टर ने मिस इंग्लैंड के खिताब को अपने नाम किया। इस दौड़ में दर्जनों मॉडल थीं, लेकिन आखिरकार ताज उनके सिर पर सजा। मीडिया रिपोर्ट में शुक्रवार को इसकी जानकारी दी गई।
रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक, 23 वर्षीय भाषा मुखर्जी के पास मेडिकल की दो अलग-अलग डिग्रियां हैं और उनका आईक्यू लेवल 146 है जो उन्हें आधिकारिक तौर पर जीनियस साबित करता है और उन्हें पांच भाषाओं की जानकारी भी है।
मुखर्जी भारत में पैदा हुई थीं और वह जब महज नौ साल की थीं उनका परिवार ब्रिटेन में जाकर बस गया। उन्होंने नॉटिंघम विश्वविद्यालय से स्नातक की पढ़ाई की। मेडिकल साइंस और मेडिसिन व सर्जरी दोनों विषयों पर उनके पास स्नातक की डिग्री है।
