Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat inaugurates Suryadhar Lake

• Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has inaugurated the Suryadhar lake at Doiwala, Dehradun. The Suryadhar lake is 550 meters long, 28 meters wide and 10 meters deep with a capacity of 77,000 cubic meters.

• Besides fulfilling the drinking water and irrigational needs of 18-20 villages, the lake will recharge the water resources in the area and help build a healthy eco-system that will attract migratory birds. The state government’s plans to organize a water sports festival at the lake either by Makar Sankranti or Basant Panchami next year to showcase the beauty of its surrounding environs.

Piyush Goyal inaugurates Dhigawara-Bandikui section of NWR

• The Union Minister of Railways, Piyush Goyal has inaugurated newly electrified Dhigawara-Bandikui section of North Western Railway (NWR) in the state of Rajasthan. The Minister also flagged off the first train on this newly electrified route. The Dhigawara-Bandikui section is on Delhi-Ajmer route via Jaipur.

• The Railways has set the target to electrify the entire percentage of railway lines across the country in a phased manner. Once these electrified trains start running, the trains that run on diesel will be stopped.

Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar launches “Sahakar Pragya” initiative

• The Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar recently unveiled a new initiative called Sahakar Pragya. Sahakar Pragya is an initiative of National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), to help in capacity development of the cooperative sector in India, through the training programme.

• Under this initiative, 45 new training modules have been developed for the farmers and would be imparted to primary cooperative societies in rural areas of the country by NCDC.

• The training modules aim to impart knowledge and organisational skills and attempt to prepare the primary cooperative societies across the country to be able to play a big role in the government’s AtmaNirbhar Bharat initiative.

APPOINTMENTS AND RESIGNATIONS

IAS officer Varsha Joshi named Chairperson of NDDB

• The Government of India has appointed IAS officer Varsha Joshi as the new Chairperson of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). She is presently served as Joint Secretary (CDD), Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India.

• With incumbent Dilip Rath’s tenure as Chairman of NDDB ends on November 30, 2020, Joshi’s appointment is made effective from December 1, 2020, until further orders.

Utpal Kumar Singh Appointed as Secretary-General of Lok Sabha

• Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has appointed senior IAS officer Utpal Kumar Singh as Secretary-General of the Lok Sabha and Lok Sabha Secretariat. His appointment will come into effect from December 1, 2020. He will succeed incumbent Snehlata Shrivastava.

• Mr Singh is a 1986 batch IAS officer of Uttrakhand Cadre and has been appointed as Secretary-General of the Lok Sabha in the rank and status of Cabinet Secretary.

World Computer Literacy Day: 02 December

• The World Computer Literacy Day is observed annually on 2nd December to create awareness and drive digital literacy in underserved communities worldwide. The day promotes technological skills, especially in children and women. The World Computer Literacy Day controls the advanced gap that exists in the world today.

• The day was originally founded by the Indian computer company NIIT to mark its 20th anniversary in 2001. World Computer Literacy Day was first observed and held in the year 2001 on 2nd Dec.

National Pollution Control Day: 02 December

• In India, the National Pollution Control Day is observed every year on December 2 to commemorate the life of people lost in the unfortunate incident of Bhopal Gas Tragedy that occurred in the year 1984 on the night of 2–3 December.

• The year 2020 marks the 36th anniversary of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy. Through this day, awareness is created about the rising pollution of air, water, and soil, as well as shifts the attention of people with regards to the pollution control acts.

International Day for the Abolition of Slavery

• International Day for the Abolition of Slavery is observed annually on 2nd December since 1986 by the United Nations General Assembly. The focus of this day is on eradicating contemporary forms of slavery, such as trafficking in persons, sexual exploitation, the worst forms of child labour, forced marriage, and the forced recruitment of children for use in armed conflict.

• The International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, 2 December, marks the date of the adoption, by the General Assembly, of the United Nations Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others (resolution 317(IV) of 2 December 1949).

Ministry of I&B release booklet on birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji

• A booklet titled ‘PM Modi and his Government’s special relationship with Sikhs’ was released, on the occasion of birth anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.It has been produced by Bureau of Outreach Communication under Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and is released in three languages Hindi, Punjabi and English.

• The booklet was jointly inaugurated by the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shri Prakash Javadekar and Union Minister for Civil Aviation and Housing and Urban Affairs Shri Hardeep Singh Puri. The Minister credited the Prime Minister for personally supervising the smallest of arrangements and personally seeing off the first Jattha for Kartarpur Corridor.

• Mentioning other important decisions, the Minister highlighted the decision on no taxation on Langars, FCRA Registration to Sri Harmandir Sahib, allowing global Sangat participation, revision of ‘Blacklist’ as per the demand of Sikh community et al.

उत्तराखंड के सीएम त्रिवेंद्र सिंह रावत ने सूर्यधार झील का किया लोकार्पण

• उत्तराखंड के मुख्यमंत्री त्रिवेंद्र सिंह रावत ने देहरादून के डोईवाला में सूर्यधार झील का लोकार्पण किया है। सूर्यधार झील 550 मीटर लंबी, 28 मीटर चौड़ी और 10 मीटर गहरी है और जिसकी क्षमता 77,000 क्यूबिक मीटर है।

• यह झील राज्य के 18-20 गांवों की पीने के पानी और सिंचाई की जरूरतों को पूरा करने के अलावा, इस क्षेत्र में जल संसाधनों को दुरुस्त करेगी और एक स्वस्थ इको-सिस्टम बनाने में मदद करेगी जो प्रवासी पक्षियों को आकर्षित करेगा। इसके अलावा राज्य सरकार ने अगले साल मकर संक्रांति या बसंत पंचमी के दिन झील में एक वाटर स्पोर्ट्स फेस्टिवल का आयोजन करने की योजना भी तैयार की है।

पीयूष गोयल ने किया NWR के दिघावाड़ा-बांदीकुई रेल खंड का उद्घाटन

• केंद्रीय रेल मंत्री पीयूष गोयल ने राजस्थान में उत्तर पश्चिम रेलवे (NWR) के नए विद्युतीकृत दिघावाड़ा-बांदीकुई रेल खंड का उद्घाटन किया है। साथ ही मंत्री ने इस नए विद्युतीकृत मार्ग पर पहली ट्रेन को भी हरी झंडी दिखाई। दिघावाड़ा-बांदीकुई खंड जयपुर से होकर जाने वाले दिल्ली-अजमेर रेल मार्ग पर है।

• रेलवे ने चरणबद्ध तरीके से देश भर की सभी रेलवे लाइनों को शत प्रतिशत विद्युतीकरण करने का लक्ष्य रखा है। एक बार जब ये विद्युतीकृत ट्रेनें पूर्ण रूप से चलने लगेंगी, तो डीजल से चलने वाली ट्रेनें को बंद कर दिया जाएगा।

नरेंद्र सिंह तोमर ने फगवाड़ा मेगा फूड पार्क का वर्चुली किया उद्घाटन

• केंद्रीय खाद्य प्रसंस्करण उद्योग मंत्री नरेंद्र सिंह तोमर ने पंजाब के कपूरथला जिले के फगवाड़ा में 107.83 करोड़ रुपये के मेगा फूड पार्क का उद्घाटन किया। अब तक देश भर में 37 मेगा फूड पार्क मंजूर किए गए हैं, जिनमें से 20 को चालू किया जा चुका है।

• मेगा फूड पार्क, जो 55 एकड़ भूमि में फैला हुआ है, और 25,000 किसानों को लाभान्वित करेगा, इसमें 3,944 वर्ग मीटर के गोदाम, 20,000 टन क्षमता वाले साइलो, 3,000 टन क्षमता वाले कोल्ड स्टोरेज और व्यक्तिगत रूप से त्वरित-फ्रोजेन और डीप फ्रीजर इकाइयां सहित अन्य सुविधाएं शामिल है।

IAS अधिकारी वर्षा जोशी होंगी NDDB की नई अध्यक्ष

• भारत सरकार द्वारा IAS अधिकारी वर्षा जोशी को राष्ट्रीय डेयरी विकास बोर्ड (NDDB) का नया अध्यक्ष नियुक्त किया गया है। वह वर्तमान में भारत सरकार के मत्स्य, पशुपालन एवं डेयरी मंत्रालय के पशुपालन और डेयरी विभाग में संयुक्त सचिव (CDD) के पद पर कार्यत हैं।

• वर्षा जोशी की नियुक्ति दिलीप रथ के स्थान पर की गई जिनका NDDB के अध्यक्ष के रूप में कार्यकाल 30 नवंबर, 2020 को समाप्त हो गया है, जोशी की नियुक्ति 1 दिसंबर, 2020 से प्रभावी होकर अगले आदेश तक जारी रहेगी।

उत्पाल कुमार सिंह को नियुक्त किया गया लोकसभा का नया महासचिव

• लोकसभा अध्यक्ष ओम बिरला ने वरिष्ठ आईएएस अधिकारी उत्पाल कुमार सिंह को लोकसभा और लोकसभा सचिवालय का महासचिव नियुक्त किया है। उनकी नियुक्ति 1 दिसंबर, 2020 से प्रभावी होगी। वे स्नेहलता श्रीवास्तव का स्थान लेंगे।

• श्री सिंह उत्तराखंड कैडर के 1986 बैच के आईएएस अधिकारी हैं और उन्हें कैबिनेट सचिव के पद और रैंक में लोकसभा का महासचिव नियुक्त किया गया है।

विश्व कंप्यूटर साक्षरता दिवस 2 दिसंबर

• विश्व कंप्यूटर साक्षरता दिवस 2 दिसंबर को प्रतिवर्ष मनाया जाता है ताकि दुनिया भर के अयोग्य समुदायों में जागरूकता पैदा की जा सके और डिजिटल साक्षरता को बढ़ाया जा सके। दिन तकनीकी कौशल को बढ़ावा देता है, खासकर बच्चों और महिलाओं में। विश्व कंप्यूटर साक्षरता दिवस आज दुनिया में मौजूद उन्नत अंतर को नियंत्रित करता है।

• यह दिन मूल रूप से भारतीय कंप्यूटर कंपनी NIIT द्वारा 2001 में अपनी 20 वीं वर्षगांठ के अवसर पर स्थापित किया गया था। विश्व कंप्यूटर साक्षरता दिवस पहली बार और 2001 में 2 दिसंबर को आयोजित किया गया था।

राष्ट्रीय प्रदूषण नियंत्रण दिवस: 02 दिसंबर

• National Pollution Control Day: भारत में प्रतिवर्ष 2 दिसंबर को वर्ष 1984 में 2 से 3 दिसंबर की रात को हुई भोपाल गैस त्रासदी की दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण घटना में जीवन गंवाने वाले लोगों की स्मृति में राष्ट्रीय प्रदूषण नियंत्रण दिवस मनाया जाता है।

• वर्ष 2020 में भोपाल गैस त्रासदी की 36 वीं वर्षगांठ है। इस दिन के जरिए, हवा, पानी और मिट्टी के बढ़ते प्रदूषण के बारे में जागरूकता पैदा की जाती है, और प्रदूषण नियंत्रण अधिनियमों के बारे में लोगों को जागरूक किया जाता है।

अंतरराष्ट्रीय दास प्रथा उन्मूलन दिवस: 2 दिसंबर

• International Day for the Abolition of Slavery: संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा द्वारा वर्ष 1986 से दुनिया भर में दास प्रथा को ख़त्म करने के लिए प्रतिवर्ष 2 दिसंबर को अंतरराष्ट्रीय दास प्रथा उन्मूलन दिवस के रूप में मनाया मनाया जाता है। इस दिन को मनाए जाने का उद्देश्य गुलामी के सभी रूपों, जैसे मानव तस्करी, यौन शोषण, सबसे बुरे रूप बाल श्रम, जबरन शादी और सशस्त्र संघर्ष के दौरान बच्चों की सेना में जबरन भर्ती से सम्बंधित मुद्दों के उन्मूलन के लिए सार्थक प्रयासों पर ध्यान केन्द्रित करना है।

• संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा में 2 दिसंबर 1949 को एक संकल्प पारित हुआ, जिसके तहत अंतरराष्ट्रीय दास प्रथा उन्मूलन दिवस को अडॉप्ट किया गया। इसमें मुख्य उद्देश्य मानव तस्करी रोकना और वेश्यावृति को रोकना था। दोनों को दासता का प्रतीक मानते हुए रेजोल्यूशन 317 (IV) पारित किया गया।

सूचना और प्रसारण मंत्रालय ने गुरु नानक देव जी की जयंती पर जारी की पुस्तिका

• श्री गुरु नानक देव जी की जयंती के अवसर पर ‘पीएम मोदी और सिखों के साथ उनकी सरकार के विशेष संबंध’ नामक एक पुस्तिका का विमोचन किया गया। सूचना और प्रसारण मंत्रालय के अधीन ब्यूरो ऑफ़ आउटरीच कम्युनिकेशन द्वारा इस पुस्तिका को तैयार किया गया है और इसे तीन भाषाओं हिंदी, पंजाबी और अंग्रेजी में जारी किया गया है।

• पुस्तिका का विमोचन केंद्रीय सूचना और प्रसारण मंत्री श्री प्रकाश जावड़ेकर और केंद्रीय नागरिक उड्डयन और आवास और शहरी मामलों के मंत्री श्री हरदीप सिंह पुरी ने संयुक्त रूप से किया। मंत्री ने प्रधानमंत्री को व्यक्तिगत रूप से छोटी व्यवस्थाओं की देखरेख करने और व्यक्तिगत रूप से करतारपुर कॉरिडोर के लिए पहला जत्था भेजने का श्रेय दिया।

• अन्य महत्वपूर्ण निर्णयों के बीच केंद्रीय मंत्री ने श्री हरमंदिर साहिब में लंगर, एफसीआरए पंजीकरण पर कोई कराधान नहीं करने के निर्णय पर प्रकाश डाला, जिससे कि सिख समुदाय की मांग के अनुसार वैश्विक संगत भागीदारी संभव हो सके और ‘ब्लैकलिस्ट’का संशोधन किया जा सके।

Arab Gulf’s first coal-based power plant being developed in Dubai

• The first coal-based power plant of Arab Gulf country is being developed in Saih Shuaib, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The 2,400MW Hassyan clean coal power station will be built at an estimated cost of $ 3.4 billion.

• The project will comprise four units of 600MW each, which are expected to start operations in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 respectively. The power plant is expected to produce sufficient electricity to power approximately 250,000 households.

Narendra Singh Tomar launches Honey FPO Programme in 5 states

• The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar virtually inaugurated Honey Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) Programme in five states, for producing honey. The Honey FPO Programme aims to address the issues faced by the beekeeping industry and also promote honey production in the country. This will also help in achieving the goal of increasing farmer’s income.

• These 5 FPOs will be set up by the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED). They will be set up at

• The Honey FPO Programme has been launched under the Central Sector Scheme for Formation & Promotion of new 10,000 FPOs.

• The Government has approved 2,200 FPOs for the current financial year 2020-21.

• The task of creating these FPOs has been given to Nabard (600 FPOs), Small Farmers’ Agribusiness Consortium (500), National Cooperative Development Corporation (500) and NAFED which will support 50 commodity-specific FPOs and some State-level organisations.

Lewis Hamilton wins Bahrain Grand Prix 2020

• Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes-Great Britain) has won the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix at Bahrain International Circuit, Bahrain. The race was the fifteenth round of the 2020 Formula One World Championship. This is the 11th victory for Hamilton of the season, and 95th F1 win of his career.

• Also, Hamilton now holds the records for the most wins (95), in Formula One history. Red Bull Racing teammates Max Verstappen (Netherlands) and Alexander Albon (Thailand) were second and third respectively.

Virat Kohli becomes fastest to reach 22,000 international runs

• Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli scripted another record in the game. He broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record and became the quickest batsman to complete 22,000 runs. He reached the milestone in his 462nd innings. Tendulkar batted 493 times to reach that mark. They are followed by Brian Lara (511 innings) and Ricky Ponting (514 innings) on the list. The only batsman with an average of over 50 across all formats, Kohli has 7240 runs in Tests, 12834 runs in ODIs and 2794 runs in T20Is.

• Kohli achieved this feat during the second ODI between Australia and India at the SCG. Notably, Kohli has become the eighth batsman overall and the third Indian to surpass 22,000 international runs. Rahul Dravid, who scored 24208 runs, is another Indian on the list.

OBITUARY

Senegal World Cup footballer Papa Bouba Diop passes away

• Senegal’s professional footballer, Papa Bouba Diop, who helped the country win the FIFA World Cup match in 2002, has passed away. He was of the age of 42. His goal helped Senegal secure historic 1–0 win over the then-world champions France in the opening match of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, and Senegal’s first-ever match at the FIFA World Cup. Diop has won 63 caps for Senegal.

World AIDS Day: 01 December

• Every year, on 1 December, the world commemorates World AIDS Day. The day provides an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. This year the theme of World AIDS Day is “Global solidarity, shared responsibility”.

• In 2020, the world’s attention has been focused by the C-19 pandemic on health and how pandemics affect lives and livelihoods. BSF Celebrates its 56th Raising Day on December 1, 2020

• The Border Security Force (BSF), is observing its 56th Raising Day on 01 December 2020. BSF was formed on December 1, 1965, as a unified central agency, after the Indo-Pak and India-China wars, for ensuring the security of the borders of India and for matters connected therewith. It is one of the five Central Armed Police Forces of the Union of India and stands as the world’s largest border guarding force. BSF has been termed as the First Line of Defence of Indian Territories.

International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People

• The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is an UN-organized day held every year on November 29. It is observed to mark the anniversary of resolution 181, wherein the Assembly adopted the resolution on the partition of Palestine on November 29, 1947.

• In 1977, the General Assembly called for the annual observance of 29 November as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. On that day, in 1947, the Assembly adopted the resolution on the partition of Palestine. This date, which was chosen because of its meaning and significance to the Palestinian people, is based on the call by the United Nations General Assembly for an annual observance of the resolution on the partition of Palestine.

• India and Finland signed an MoU for developing cooperation in the field of Environment protection and biodiversity conservation. The MoU was signed by Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar from the Indian side and his Finnish counterpart Krista Mikkonen through video-mode.

• Further, advance Indian and Finnish partnership and strengthen technological, scientific and management capabilities and develop bilateral cooperation in the field of environmental protection and biodiversity conservation

• The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has released a new book titled ‘Future of Regional Cooperation in Asia and the Pacific’.

• अरब खाड़ी देश का पहला कोयला-आधारित पावर प्लांट, संयुक्त अरब अमीरात, दुबई के सआह शोएब में स्थापित किया जा रहा है। 2,400 मेगावाट हसायन क्लीन कोयला पॉवर स्टेशन कुल 3.4 बिलियन डॉलर की अनुमानित लागत पर स्थापित किया जाएगा।

• वर्ष 2002 के फीफा विश्व कप मैच में देश को जीत दिलाने में अहम भूमिका निभाने वाले सेनेगल के पेशेवर फुटबॉलर पापा बोउआ डोप (Papa Bouba Diop) का निधन। वह 42 वर्ष की आयु के थे।

• उनके गोल ने सेनेगल को 2002 फीफा विश्व कप के उद्घाटन मैच में तत्कालीन विश्व चैंपियन फ्रांस पर 1-0 की जीत हासिल करने और फीफा विश्व कप में सेनेगल को पहला मैच जीतने में मदद की थी। डोप ने सेनेगल के लिए 63 कैप जीते थे।

• संयुक्त राष्ट्र द्वारा प्रति वर्ष 29 नवंबर को International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People यानि फिलिस्तीनी लोगों के साथ एकजुटता का अंतर्राष्ट्रीय दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है। यह दिन प्रस्ताव 181 की वर्षगांठ पर मनाया जाता है, जिसमें महासभा ने 29 नवंबर, 1947 को फिलिस्तीन के विभाजन पर संकल्प को अपनाया था।

• संयुक्त राष्ट्र आम सभा ने 1977 में 29 नवंबर को प्रत्येक वर्ष फिलीस्‍तीनी लोगों के साथ अंतर्राष्‍ट्रीय एकजुटता दिवस के रूप में मनाने की घोषणा की थी। इसी दिन 1947 में महासभा ने फिलिस्तीन के विभाजन के प्रस्ताव को अपनाया था। इस तारीख को फिलिस्तीनी लोगों के लिए इसके अर्थ और महत्व के कारण चुना गया था, जो कि संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा के फिलिस्तीन के विभाजन प्रस्ताव पर आधारित एक वार्षिक दिवस है।

• भारत और फिनलैंड ने पर्यावरण और जैवविविधता संरक्षण के क्षेत्र में सहयोग विकसित करने के लिए एक समझौता ज्ञापन पर हस्ताक्षर किए है। एमओयू पर भारतीय की ओर से पर्यावरण मंत्री प्रकाश जावड़ेकर और फिनलैंड की पर्यावरण तथा जलवायु परिवर्तन मंत्री कृस्‍टा मिक्‍कोनेन ने वीडियो-कांफ्रेसिंग के जरिए हस्ताक्षर किए।

• इस समझौता ज्ञापन से प्रौद्योगिकी, वैज्ञानिक तथा प्रबंधन क्षमताएं मजबूत होंगी और गुणवत्‍ता आदान-प्रदान तथा पारस्‍परिक लाभ के आधार पर सतत विकास को प्रोत्‍साहित करने के काम को ध्‍यान में रखते हुए पर्यावरण तथा जैवविविधता के क्षेत्र में द्विपक्षीय सहयोग विकसित होगा।

• यह समझौता ज्ञापन भारत और फिनलैंड की साझेदारी और समर्थन, वायु तथा जल प्रदूषण की रोकथाम,अपशिष्‍ट प्रबंधन, सहित प्राकृतिक संसाधनों के सतत प्रबंधन जैसे क्षेत्रों में श्रेष्‍ठ व्‍यवहारों के आदान-प्रदान को प्रोत्‍साहित करेगा।

Quarantine’ named Cambridge Dictionary’s Word of the Year 2020

• Cambridge Dictionary has named ‘quarantine’ as Word of the Year 2020. The word has been named the word of the year based on data that showed that it was one of the most highly searched words on the Cambridge Dictionary this year. Cambridge editors have noticed that people are using the word in a new way this year describing a “general period of time in which people are not allowed to leave their homes or travel freely so that they do not catch or spread a disease.” This new sense of quarantine has now been added to the Cambridge Dictionary.

• “Quarantine was the only word to rank in the top five for both search spikes and overall views (more than 183,000 by early November), with the largest spike in searches (28,545) seen in the week of March 18-24, when many countries around the world went into lockdown as a result of C-19,” as per an official release.

PM Modi Chairs 33rd PRAGATI Meet

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi has chaired the 33rd PRAGATI meeting to review multiple projects, grievances and programmes. PRAGATI stands for “Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation”.

• The United Nation recognised Day of Remembrance for all Victims of Chemical Warfare on 30th November every year since 2005. The day marks a tribute to the victims of chemical warfare, as well as to reaffirm the commitment of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to the elimination of the threat of chemical weapons, thereby promoting the goals of peace, security, and multilateralism.

• The history of the serious efforts to achieve chemical disarmament that culminated in the conclusion of the Chemical Weapons Convention began more than a century ago. Chemical weapons were used on a massive scale during World War I, resulting in more than 100,000 fatalities and a million casualties.

British Actor David Prowse passes away

• British character actor David Prowse, best known for playing ‘Darth Vader’ in the original Star Wars trilogy, passed away. He was a weightlifter-turned-actor, was selected to portray Darth Vader for his imposing physique of 6-foot-7 inch. However, the role was voiced by James Earl Jones.

UBS Projects India’s GDP at -10.5% for FY21

• The UBS has projected India’s real GDP to contract 10.5% in FY21, in its Global Economics & Markets Outlook 2021-2022 report. For the fiscal 2021-22 (FY22) UBS expect India’s real GDP growth to rebound to +10% in FY22. UBS also estimates India’s GDP to stabilise at 6.2 per cent YoY in FY23.

YES Bank launches ‘SMS Pay’ on POS Terminals

• Private lender YES Bank has launched an ‘SMS Pay’ functionality on POS terminals, which would allow merchants to accept contactless and remote payments from their customers. YES Bank has collaborated with French payment services company Worldline to launch the new facility.

• SMS Pay will facilitate merchants to accept remote payments on their POS machines and enable their customers to transact safely without leaving the comfort of their homes.

• Through SMS Pay, local merchants & department stores could request payments from their customers by entering their contact details in the POS terminal following which an SMS would be triggered to the customer’s mobile number instantly, with a payment URL link.

• Customers can complete the payment through their domestic debit and credit cards.

IRDAI approves ICICI Lombard acquisition of Bharti Axa General

• The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has given its in-principle approval for the merger of Bharti AXA General Insurance with ICICI Lombard. The merged entity will have a market share of around 8.7 per cent on a proforma basis in the general insurance business.

• Based on the share exchange ratio recommended by independent valuers, shareholders of Bharti AXA will receive two shares of ICICI Lombard for every 115 shares of Bharti AXA. At present, promoter ICICI Bank Ltd holds is 51.89% stake in ICICI Lombard, while the rest is with the public. After the proposed deal, the promoter stake will come down to 48.11%.

• The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has already approved the acquisition of the two entities while approvals request from other concerned regulators for the transaction has been applied. The policyholders should benefit from an enhanced product suite and deeper customer connects touchpoints.

प्रधानमंत्री ने 33वीं प्रगति बैठक की अध्यक्षता की

• प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने पीआरएजीएटीआई (प्रगति) बैठक की अध्यक्षता की। प्रगति के माध्यम से प्रधानमंत्री का यह 33वां संवाद है। प्रगति सक्रिय शासन संचालन और समयबद्ध क्रियान्‍वयन के लिए आईसीटी आधारित बहु-मॉडल प्‍लेटफॉर्म है।

• प्रगति बैठक में कई परियोजनाओं, शिकायतों और कार्यक्रमों की समीक्षा की गई। परियोजनाएं रेल मंत्रालय, एमओआरटीएच, डीपीआईआईटी और विद्युत मंत्रालय की थीं। कुल 1.41 लाख करोड़ रुपये लागत वाली ये परियोजनाएं 10 राज्यों और केंद्रशासित प्रदेशों से संबंधित थीं, जिनमें ओडिशा, महाराष्ट्र, कर्नाटक, उत्तर प्रदेश, जम्मू और कश्मीर, गुजरात, हरियाणा, मध्य प्रदेश, राजस्थान, और दादरा एवं नागर हवेली शामिल हैं। प्रधानमंत्री ने केंद्र सरकार के संबंधित सचिवों और राज्य सरकारों के मुख्य सचिवों से यह सुनिश्चित करने के लिए कहा कि वे समय से पहले काम पूरा कर लें।

• प्रधानमंत्री ने शिकायत निवारण के महत्व पर जोर दिया और कहा कि फोकस केवल ऐसे निवारण की मात्रा पर नहीं होना चाहिए बल्कि गुणवत्ता पर भी होना चाहिए। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि सुधार तभी फायदेमंद होते हैं जब बेहतर प्रदर्शनकिया जाता है और यही देश में परिवर्तन लाने का आगे का रास्ता है।

वैक्सीन विकास की समीक्षा करने के लिए पीएम मोदी 3 शहरों का दौरा

UBS ने वित्त वर्ष-21 में भारत की जीडीपी -10.5% रहने का जताया अनुमान

• यूबीएस ने अपनी ग्लोबल इकनोमिक और मार्केट आउटलुक 2021-2022 रिपोर्ट में वित्त वर्ष-21 में भारत की वास्तविक जीडीपी 10.5% नेगेटिव रहने का अनुमान जताया है।

• UBS को उम्मीद है कि वित्त वर्ष 2022 में भारत की वास्तविक जीडीपी वृद्धि दर उभरकर 10% की दर से ग्रोथ करेगी। इसके अलावा यूबीएस ने वित्त वर्ष-23 में भारत की जीडीपी को 6.2 प्रतिशत तक स्थिर रहने का अनुमान जताया है।

यस बैंक ने POS टर्मिनलों के लिए लॉन्च किया ‘SMS Pay’ फीचर

• निजी क्षेत्र के बैंक यस बैंक ने POS टर्मिनलों के लिए एक नया ‘SMS Pay’ फीचर लॉन्च किया है, जो कारोबारियों को ग्राहकों से संपर्क रहित और दूर से ही भुगतान स्वीकार करने में सक्षम बनाएगा। यस बैंक ने इस नई सुविधा को शुरू करने के लिए फ्रेंच की भुगतान सेवा कंपनी वर्ल्डलाइन के साथ साझेदारी की है।

• SMS Pay के जरिए स्थानीय व्यापारी और डिपार्टमेंट स्टोर पीओएस टर्मिनल पर ग्राहक की जानकारी डालकर ग्राहकों से भुगतान का अनुरोध कर सकते हैं, जिसके बाद एसएमएस ग्राहक के मोबाइल नंबर पर तुरंत भुगतान URL लिंक के साथ चला जाएगा।

IRDAI ने भारती एक्सा और ICICI लोम्बार्ड के विलय को दी मंजूरी

• इंश्योरेंस रेग्युलेटरी एंड डेवलपमेंट अथॉरिटी ऑफ इंडिया (IRDAI) ने ICICI लोम्बार्ड के साथ भारती AXA जनरल इंश्योरेंस का विलय करने के लिए अपनी सैद्धांतिक मंजूरी दे दी है। यह विलय होने के बाद संयुक्त इकाई की जनरल इंश्योरेंस कारोबार प्रोफार्मा आधार पर बाजार में हिस्सेदारी लगभग 8.7 प्रतिशत हो जाएगी।

• स्वतंत्र मूल्यांकनकर्ताओं द्वारा निर्धारित किए शेयर विनिमय अनुपात के आधार पर, भारती एक्सा के प्रत्येक 115 शेयरों के लिए भारती एक्सा के शेयरधारकों को आईसीआईसीआई लोम्बार्ड के दो शेयर मिलेंगे। वर्तमान में, प्रमोटर आईसीआईसीआई बैंक लिमिटेड की आईसीआईसीआई लोम्बार्ड में 51.89% हिस्सेदारी है, जबकि शेष आम शेयरधारको के पास है। प्रस्तावित सौदे के बाद, प्रमोटर हिस्सेदारी घटकर 48.11% तक आ जाएगी।

• Russia successfully test-fired a Tsirkon hypersonic cruise missile in the Arctic. the frigate Admiral Gorshkov in the White Sea fired a Tsirkon hypersonic cruise missile, hitting a naval target 450 km away in the Barents Sea at a speed of over Mach 8.

• In early January, the same frigate test-fired a Tsirkon missile for the first time, striking a ground target over 500 km away. Last month, the warship deployed in the White Sea destroyed a naval target in the Barents Sea with a Tsirkon missile.

Bengaluru’s Bowring Medical College named after Atal Bihari Vajpayee

• The Bowring and Lady Curzon Medical College and Research Institute in Bengaluru have been named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The institute was set up in 2018-19 on the campus of Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in Shivajinagar in the heart of Bengaluru.

• Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the first leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party to become the Prime Minister. He served as Prime Minister thrice — briefly in 1996, from 1998 to 1999, and then for a full five-year term between 1999 and 2004. Among his several portfolios, Vajpayee had also served as External Affairs Minister during PM Morarji Desai’s tenure during 1977 and 1979.

Indian Army launches cycling expedition in Gujarat & Rajasthan

• Konark Corps of Indian Army has launched a 1971 kilometres cycling expedition in Gujarat and Rajasthan to commemorate the commencement of the Golden Jubilee Victory Celebrations of Indian Armed Forces in the Indo-Pak War of 1971. 1971 Kilometers ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh Cyclothon’ across Gujarat & Rajasthan has been joined by the relay teams of 20 participants each of the various Army Formations across the two states.

• The cycle expedition was flagged off from an outpost near Lakhpat in Kutch by Honorary Captain Gumansinh Jhala, an 87-year-old War Veteran who had participated in both Indo-Pak wars of 1965 & 1971 then serving with 7 Grenadiers.

Prakash Javadeker launches India Climate Change Knowledge Portal

• Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar has launched the “India Climate Change Knowledge Portal”. According to Prakash Javadekar, India has practically achieved its pre-2020 climate action targets. He said, though India is not responsible for climate change it is taking responsible action to mitigate the challenge.

• The portal will have all the major steps the Government is taking at both national and international levels to address the climate change issues.

• Portal will be a single-point information resource that provides information on the different climate initiatives taken by various Line Ministries enabling users to access d status on these initiatives.

• The Indian national team have moved up a spot to 104 in the latest FIFA Rankings. The Indian team were ranked 108th in the October 2020 rankings. In two months, India has climbed 5 spots after being 109th in September.

• Meanwhile, on the global scene, the top six remain unchanged. Belgium continues to lead the rankings followed by France, Brazil, England, Portugal and Spain. Argentina is seventh, having interchanged spots with eighth-placed Uruguay. Mexico and Italy complete the top 10.

L&T bags Rs 7,000-cr order to construct part of Bullet Train project

• Infrastructure major Larsen and Toubro (L&T) has bagged an order worth over Rs 7,000 crore to construct a part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR), also known as the Bullet Train Project. The scope of the order includes the construction of viaducts, one station, major river bridges, maintenance depots, and other auxiliary works.

• The approximately 508 km Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project will cover Maharashtra, Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Gujarat, with 12 stations along the route. Upon completion, the high-speed rail will operate at a speed of 320 kmph, covering the entire distance in approximately 2 hours with limited stops and in 3 hours with all stops.

India’s GDP Contracts 7.5% in September Quarter

• The National Statistical Office (NSO) has released the estimates of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the second quarter (July-September) Q2 of 2020-21.

• The GDP at Constant (2011-12) Prices in Q2 of 2020-21 is estimated at Rs 33.14 lakh crore, as against Rs 35.84 lakh crore in Q2 of 2019-20, showing a contraction of 7.5% as compared to 4.4% growth in Q2 2019-20.

• बेंगलुरु में बॉरिंग और लेडी कर्जन मेडिकल कॉलेज और रिसर्च इंस्टीट्यूट का नाम पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी के नाम पर रखा गया है। संस्थान की स्थापना 2018-19 में बेंगलुरु के मध्य में शिवाजीनगर में बॉरिंग और लेडी कर्जन अस्पताल के परिसर में की गई थी।

• इन्डियन नेशनल टीम, FIFA की नवीनतम रैंकिंग में 104 वें स्थान पर पहुंच गई है। अक्टूबर 2020 की रैंकिंग में भारतीय टीम 108 वें स्थान पर थी। दो महीनों में, भारत सितंबर में 109 वें स्थान पर होने के बाद 5 स्थान आगे आ गया है।

बुलेट ट्रेन परियोजना का हिस्सा बनाने के लिए एलएंडटी ने दिया 7,000 करोड़ रुपये का ऑर्डर

• इंफ्रास्ट्रक्चर प्रमुख लार्सन एंड टुब्रो (L&T) ने मुंबई-अहमदाबाद हाई-स्पीड रेल (MAHSR) का एक हिस्सा बनाने के लिए 7,000 करोड़ रुपये से अधिक का ऑर्डर हासिल किया है, जिसे बुलेट ट्रेन प्रोजेक्ट के रूप में भी जाना जाता है। ऑर्डर के दायरे में viaducts, एक स्टेशन, प्रमुख नदी पुल, रखरखाव डिपो, और अन्य सहायक कार्यों का निर्माण शामिल है।

सितंबर तिमाही में भारत की जीडीपी में आई 7.5% की गिरावट

• राष्ट्रीय सांख्यिकी कार्यालय (NSO) ने 2020-21 की दूसरी तिमाही (जुलाई-सितंबर) Q2 के लिए सकल घरेलू उत्पाद (GDP) के अनुमान जारी किए हैं।

• 2020-21 की दूसरी तिमाही में जीडीपी (2011-12) की कीमतों का अनुमान 33.14 लाख करोड़ रुपये है, जबकि 2019-20 की दूसरी तिमाही में 35.84 लाख करोड़ रुपये के मुकाबले, 2019-20 की दूसरी तिमाही में 4.4% वृद्धि की तुलना में 7.5% की गिरावट देखी गयी।

SpiceJet launches dedicated freighter services to Leh in Ladakh

• SpiceJet has launched dedicated freighter services connecting Leh with the rest of the country. This is the first time a civil airliner has started freighter services to Leh. Accordingly, the airline operated its first freighter flight from Delhi to Leh carrying 13 tonnes of cargo supplies. SpiceXpress, the dedicated cargo arm of SpiceJet, will deploy its Boeing 737 freighter on this route.

• The dedicated cargo flights will help transport fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, perishables, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and other general cargo. Besides improving logistics and connectivity, the new freighter service will ensure transportation of these essential commodities remains unaffected due to dipping temperatures and adverse weather conditions during these winter months.

• The new flights launched are seasonal and will operate during the winter months when surface transportation is disrupted owing to harsh weather conditions. In line with its commitment to ensuring seamless transportation of essential commodities, SpiceJet aims to address the geographical challenges while offering seamless connectivity through its cargo service.

Nitin Gadkari inaugurates Highway projects in Uttar Pradesh

• Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of 16 National Highway projects in Uttar Pradesh. The construction cost of these infra projects is estimated to be around Rs 7477 crore.

• These highway projects include a road length of 505 kilometres and will provide better connectivity, convenience to the public as well as lead to economic growth in the state. National Highways works worth two lakh crore rupees are being undertaken in UP.

Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has cleared the proposal to rename the Ayodhya airport as Maryada

• Purushottam Sri Ram Airport, Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. The proposal for the same will be sent to the Ministry of Civil Aviation after it is passed by the state Assembly.

• Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath had announced on the occasion of Deepotsav on Diwali eve in November 2018 that Ayodhya will have both international and domestic terminals and could potentially be one of the largest airports of UP.

Ladakh gets largest solar project at Leh Indian Air Force station

• The Union Territory of Ladakh has got the largest solar power project set up under the Centre’s ‘Make In India’ initiative at Leh IAF station to provide sustainable energy alternative to fossil fuel and traditional methods of energy generation. The project namely ‘Provision of Solar Photo Voltaic Powerplant 1.5 MW’ has been completed within 12 months well before the completion deadline of March 31, 2021.

• The largest solar project at a high altitude in the entire Leh in the Union Territory of Ladakh has been established at IAF Station Leh.

• The project was conceptualised under Make In India, and executed to provide sustainable energy alternative to fossil fuel and traditional methods.

• It is the largest installed solar project till date out of the target of 300 MW in three phases for defence sectors and 14 MW for Leh region as set by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

• The project worth Rs 122 crore was recently inaugurated by Air Marshal V R Chaudhari, Commander-in-chief, Western Air Command.

OBITUARY

Former World Bank President James Wolfensohn passes away

• Australian-American lawyer, investment banker, and economist James Wolfensohn, who served as the President of the World Bank for 10 years, passed away. He had served as the ninth president of the World Bank Group from 1995 to 2005.

• Together with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Wolfensohn launched the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries Initiative in 1996, a program that eventually provided more than $53 billion in debt relief to 27 of the world’s poorest countries.

Father of Indian IT industry FC Kohli passes away

• Founder of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Faqir Chand Kohli, better known as the Father of the Indian IT industry, passed away. Besides being the founder, he was also the first CEO of TCS.

• Kohli also worked as the deputy general manager of Tata Power Company and was the Chairman of the Board of Governors of College of Engineering, Pune. As the first CEO of TCS, he pioneered India’s IT revolution and helped the country build the $190-billion IT industry. A visionary and pioneer by nature, he was a recipient of Padma Bhushan from the Government of India.

स्पाइसजेट ने लद्दाख में लेह के लिए लॉन्च की समर्पित फ्रीटर सेवाएं

• स्पाइसजेट ने लेह को देश के बाकी हिस्सों से जोड़ने वाली समर्पित फ्रीटर सेवाओं (freighter services) की शुरुआत की है। यह पहली बार है जब किसी नागरिक विमान चालक ने लेह के लिए मालवाहक सेवाएं (freighter services) शुरू की हैं। तदनुसार, एयरलाइन ने दिल्ली से लेह तक 13 टन कार्गो की आपूर्ति के साथ अपनी पहली मालवाहक उड़ान का संचालन किया। स्पाइसजेट की समर्पित कार्गो आर्म SpiceXpress इस मार्ग पर अपने बोइंग 737 फ्रीटर ( Boeing 737 freighter) को तैनात करेगी।

• केंद्रीय मंत्री नितिन गडकरी ने उत्तर प्रदेश में 16 राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग परियोजनाओं का उद्घाटन और शिलान्यास किया। इन इंफ्रा परियोजनाओं की निर्माण लागत लगभग 7477 करोड़ रुपये आंकी गई है।

• इन राजमार्ग परियोजनाओं में 505 किलोमीटर की सड़क की लंबाई शामिल है और यह बेहतर कनेक्टिविटी, जनता को सुविधा प्रदान करने के साथ-साथ राज्य में आर्थिक विकास का मार्ग प्रशस्त करेगी। यूपी में दो लाख करोड़ रुपये के राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग पर काम जारी हैं।

अयोध्या हवाई अड्डे का नाम बदलकर होगा मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम श्री राम हवाई अड्डा

• उत्तर प्रदेश मंत्रिमंडल ने अयोध्या हवाई अड्डे का नाम बदलकर मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम श्री राम हवाई अड्डा, अयोध्या, उत्तर प्रदेश रखने के प्रस्ताव को मंजूरी दे दी है। राज्य विधानसभा द्वारा पारित किए जाने के बाद उसी के लिए प्रस्ताव नागरिक उड्डयन मंत्रालय को भेजा जाएगा।

• उत्तर प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री आदित्यनाथ ने नवंबर 2018 में दीपावली की पूर्व संध्या पर दीपोत्सव के अवसर पर घोषणा की थी कि अयोध्या में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय और घरेलू दोनों टर्मिनल होंगे और संभवतः यह यूपी के सबसे बड़े हवाई अड्डों में से एक हो सकता है।

• मर्सिडीज-बेंज (Mercedes-Benz ) ने भारतीय स्टेट बैंक (SBI) के साथ हाथ मिलाया है , इससे बैंक के हाई नेट वर्थ इंडिविजुअल (HNI) ग्राहकों को वित्तीय लाभ देने की पेशकश की जायेगी। यह सहयोग भारतीय स्टेट बैंक के हाई नेट वर्थ इंडिविजुअल (HNI) ग्राहक आधार के लिए लक्जरी ऑटोमोबाइल निर्माता एक्सेस प्रदान करेगा, जबकि बैंक के ग्राहक मर्सिडीज-बेंज कार की बुकिंग के समय विशेष लाभ का आनंद लेंगे। इसका उद्देश्य एसबीआई के साथ सहयोग से ग्राहक आधार का विस्तार करने और उत्पादों और सेवाओं के साथ बैंक के संभावित एचएनआई ग्राहकों तक पहुंचना है।

PM Modi Inaugurates 3rd global renewable energy event “RE-INVEST” 2020

• Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has inaugurated the 3rd Global Renewable Energy Investment Meeting and Expo (RE-Invest 2020) through video conferencing. The summit is organised by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The theme for RE-Invest 2020 is ‘Innovations for Sustainable Energy Transition’. The first two editions of RE-Invest were held in 2015 and 2018.

• The two day virtual programme will provide an international forum for investment promotion in renewable energy sector and an opportunity to various countries, states, business houses & organizations to showcase their strategies, achievements and expectations. It must be noted that India has set an ambitious target of having 175GW of renewable energy by 2022 and 450GW by 2030.

Thaawarchand Gehlot e-launches National Portal for Transgender Persons

• Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment, Thaawarchand Gehlot has e-launched a ‘National Portal for Transgender Persons’ and e-inaugurated a ‘Garima Greh: A Shelter Home for Transgender Persons’ in Vadodara, Gujarat.

• This National Portal for Transgender Persons has been developed within 2 months of Notification of Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Rules, 2020 on 29 September 2020.

• This highly useful Portal would help a transgender person in applying for a Certificate and Identity card digitally from anywhere in the country.

• The most important benefit is that it helps the transgender person to get the I-Card without any physical interface and without having to visit any office.

• Through the Portal, they can monitor the status of their application that ensures transparency in the process. The issuing authorities are also under strict timelines to process the applications and issue certificates and identity cards without any necessary delays.

• Once the Certificate and I-card are issued, the applicant can download them from the Portal itself. In case of delay or rejection, the applicant has the options to submit grievances through the Portal which are forwarded to the concerned person and will be resolved at the earliest.

• This portal will help a lot of people from the community to come forward and get Transgender Certificate and Identity Cards as per their self-perceived identity which is an important provision of The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019.

‘Garima Greh: A Shelter Home for Transgender Persons’

• ‘Garima Greh: A Shelter Home for Transgender Persons’ will be run in association with Lakshya Trust, a Community based organisation entirely run by the Transgenders.

• The purpose of the Shelter Home is to provide shelter to Transgender persons, with basic amenities like shelter, food, medical care and recreational facilities.

• Besides, it will provide support for the capacity-building/skill development of persons in the Community, which will enable them to lead a life of dignity and respect.

• The Scheme of ‘Shelter Home for Transgender Persons’ includes shelter facility, food, clothing, recreational facilities, skill development opportunities, yoga, meditation/prayers, physical fitness, library facilities, legal support, technical advice for gender transition and surgeries, capacity building of trans-friendly organizations, employment and skill-building support, etc.

• The Nodal Ministry has taken the first step in improving the conditions of Transgender persons and has identified 10 cities to set up the 13 Shelter Homes and extend the facilities to Transgender persons, in association with selected 13 CBOs in the country on a pilot basis.

• The cities include Vadodara, New Delhi, Patna, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur, Kolkata, Manipur, Chennai, Raipur, Mumbai, etc. The scheme will rehabilitate a minimum of 25 transgender persons in each home identified by the Ministry.

• This is a pilot project, and on its successful completion, similar schemes will be extended to other parts of the country.

Sports Minister launches 2nd edition of Fit India School Week

• Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju has launched the 2nd edition of the “Fit India School Week” program in the presence of Fit India Mission. Sports Minister encourages school children to participate in the Fit India movement.

• To participate in the program the schools have to register themselves on www.fitindia.gov.in/fit-india-school-week. The Fit India School week program was launched in November last year and saw participation from over 15 thousand schools across the country.

AIMPLB vice president Maulana Kalbe Sadiq passes away

• Vice president of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), Maulana Kalbe Sadiq passed away. He was born in Lucknow and was known for his lectures, mostly during Muharram. He was an educationist, Islamic scholar and ambassador of communal amity.

• Sadiq was the first to organise a Shia-Sunni namaz in the history of Lucknow. He received his early education from madrasa Sultan ul Madaris. He then moved to Aligarh Muslim University where he obtained a bachelor of arts degree. He later went on to pursue his master’s degree in Arabic literature from the same University. He then secured a doctoral degree from Lucknow University.

Lt Gen Harpal Singh appointed new Engineer-in-Chief of Indian Army

• Lt Gen Harpal Singh has appointed new Engineer-in-Chief of Indian Army. He is presently the Director-General of Border Roads Organisation and would take over his new appointment on 1 December.

• Lt Gen Harpal Singh, an alumnus of National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, was commissioned into the Corps of Engineers on 24 December 1982. He later commanded a Border Roads, Task Force, in Jammu and Kashmir valley. He has also been the Chief Engineer of Project Dantak (BRO) at Bhutan, Chief Engineer (Navy), Mumbai and Chief Engineer HQ Eastern Command. Lt Gen Harpal Singh is a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, the Higher Command and National Defence College courses.

• Major Gen Rajeev Chaudhary has been appointed as the new Director-General of the Border Roads Organisation. The BRO is responsible for the construction and maintenance of roads along the borders with China and Pakistan.

UNDP and Invest India tie-up to launch the SDG Investor Map for India

• The National Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency, Invest India has partnered with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) India to develop the first-ever ‘SDG Investor Map for India’. The map lays out 18 Investment Opportunities Areas (IOAs) in six critical SDG enabling sectors, that can help India to move forward on Sustainable Development path. This initiative is an instrumental stride in India’s development trajectory.

• The Map comes at a critical time for India. With the emergence of the C-19 pandemic, the financing gap for the SDGs in India has only widened further and decades of development progress is nearly on the verge of a reversal. Investing in the SDGs at this point is crucial to ‘Building Back Better’ and making the economy and our societies more resilient and sustainable. Enhanced productivity, technology adoption and increased inclusion are all critical factors that this map uses to identify the most attractive sectors for investors.

• केंद्रीय सामाजिक न्याय और अधिकारिता मंत्री थावरचंद गहलोत ने 'ट्रांसजेंडर लोगों के लिए राष्ट्रीय पोर्टल' लॉन्च किया और गुजरात के वडोदरा में एक 'गरिमा गृह : ए शेल्टर होम फॉर ट्रांसजेंडर पर्सन्स' का उद्घाटन किया।

• ट्रांसजेंडर व्यक्तियों (अधिकारों का संरक्षण) नियम 2020 की 29 सितंबर 2020 की अधिसूचना के दो महीने के भीतर ट्रांसजेंडर व्यक्तियों के लिए यह राष्ट्रीय पोर्टल विकसित किया गया है।

• यह अत्यधिक उपयोगी पोर्टल देश में कहीं से भी एक ट्रांसजेंडर व्यक्ति को प्रमाण पत्र और पहचान पत्र के लिए डिजिटल रूप से आवेदन करने में मदद करेगा।

• इसका सबसे महत्वपूर्ण लाभ यह है कि यह ट्रांसजेंडर व्यक्ति को किसी भी भौतिक इंटरफेस के बिना और किसी भी कार्यालय जाए बिना आई-कार्ड प्राप्त करने में मदद करता है।

• पोर्टल के माध्यम से, वे अपने आवेदन की स्थिति की निगरानी कर सकते हैं जो प्रक्रिया में पारदर्शिता सुनिश्चित करता है। जारी करने वाले अधिकारी भी आवेदनों को संसाधित करने और बिना किसी आवश्यक देरी के प्रमाण पत्र और पहचान पत्र जारी करने के लिए सख्त समय-सीमा के तहत आते हैं।

• एक बार प्रमाण पत्र और आई-कार्ड जारी होने के बाद, आवेदक उन्हें पोर्टल से ही डाउनलोड कर सकते हैं। देरी या अस्वीकृति के मामले में, आवेदक के पास पोर्टल के माध्यम से शिकायतें करने का विकल्प होगा जो संबंधित व्यक्ति को भेज दिए जाते हैं और जल्द से जल्द हल किए जाएंगे।

• यह पोर्टल समुदाय के बहुत से लोगों को आगे आने में मदद करेगा और उनकी स्वयं की कथित पहचान के अनुसार ट्रांसजेंडर प्रमाणपत्र और पहचान पत्र प्राप्त करेगा जो कि ट्रांसजेंडर व्यक्तियों (अधिकारों का संरक्षण) अधिनियम, 2019 का एक महत्वपूर्ण प्रावधान है।

• ट्रांसजेंडर व्यक्तियों के लिए एक आश्रय स्थल गरिमा गृह, को लक्ष्मण ट्रस्ट के सहयोग से चलाया जाएगा जो पूरी तरह से ट्रांसजेंडरों द्वारा संचालित एक समुदाय आधारित संगठन है।

• आश्रय स्थल का उद्देश्य ट्रांसजेंडर व्यक्तियों को आश्रय प्रदान करना है, जिसमें आश्रय, भोजन, चिकित्सा देखभाल और मनोरंजन जैसी बुनियादी सुविधाएं हैं।

• इसके अलावा, यह समुदाय में व्यक्तियों के क्षमता-निर्माण/कौशल विकास के लिए सहायता प्रदान करेगा जो उन्हें सम्मान और सम्मान का जीवन जीने में सक्षम बनायेगा।

• 'ट्रांसजेंडर व्यक्तियों के लिए आश्रय गृह' की योजना में आश्रय सुविधा, भोजन, कपड़े, मनोरंजन सुविधाएं, कौशल विकास के अवसर, योग, ध्यान/प्रार्थना, शारीरिक फिटनेस, पुस्तकालय सुविधाएं, कानूनी सहायता, लिंग परिवर्तन और सर्जरी के लिए तकनीकी सलाह, ट्रांस-फ्रेंडली संगठनों के लिए क्षमता निर्माण, रोजगार और कौशल-निर्माण सहायता, आदि शामिल हैं।

• नोडल मंत्रालय ने ट्रांसजेंडर व्यक्तियों की स्थितियों में सुधार करने के लिए पहला कदम उठाया है और प्रायोगिक आधार पर देश में चयनित 13 सीबीओ के सहयोग से 13 शेल्टर होम्स स्थापित करने और ट्रांसजेंडर व्यक्तियों के लिए सुविधाओं का विस्तार करने के लिए 10 शहरों की पहचान की है।

• शहरों में वडोदरा, नई दिल्ली, पटना, भुवनेश्वर, जयपुर, कोलकाता, मणिपुर, चेन्नई, रायपुर, मुंबई आदि शामिल हैं। यह योजना मंत्रालय द्वारा चिन्हित प्रत्येक घरों में न्यूनतम 25 ट्रांसजेंडर व्यक्तियों का पुनर्वास करेगी।

• यह एक पायलट प्रोजेक्ट है और इसके सफल होने पर देश के अन्य हिस्सों में इसी तरह की योजनाओं का विस्तार किया जाएगा।

खेल मंत्री ने फिट इंडिया स्कूल वीक का दूसरा संस्करण लॉन्च किया

• हाल ही में खेल मंत्री किरेन रिजिजू ने फिट इंडिया स्कूल वीक कार्यक्रम का दूसरा संस्करण लॉन्च किया है। इस कार्यक्रम में भाग लेने के लिए स्कूलों को www.fitindia.gov.in/fit-india-school-week पर अपना पंजीकरण कराना होगा। इसके लॉन्च समारोह के दौरान, किरेन रिजिजू ने स्कूली जीवन में फिटनेस के महत्व के बारे में बात की और कहा कि छात्र भारत को फिट बनाने के पीछे प्रेरक शक्ति हैं।

• फिट इंडिया स्कूल सप्ताह कार्यक्रम पिछले साल नवंबर में शुरू किया गया था और इसमें देश भर के 15 हजार से अधिक स्कूलों ने भाग लिया था।

• फिट इंडिया मूवमेंट के तहत स्कूलों की ग्रेडिंग फिटनेस के आधार पर की जायेगी, इस रैंकिंग को प्राप्त करने वाले स्कूल फिट इंडिया का लोगो तथा झंडे का उपयोग कर सकेंगे।

AIMPLB के उपाध्यक्ष मौलाना कल्बे सादिक का निधन

• ऑल इंडिया मुस्लिम पर्सनल लॉ बोर्ड (AIMPLB) के उपाध्यक्ष मौलाना कल्बे सादिक का निधन। उनका जन्म लखनऊ में हुआ था और उन्हें ज्यादातर मुहर्रम के दौरान अपने व्याख्यान के लिए जाना जाता था। वे एक शिक्षाविद, इस्लामी विद्वान और सांप्रदायिक एकता के आदर्श थे।

• सादिक ने लखनऊ के इतिहास में पहली बार एक साथ शिया-सुन्नी नमाज़ का आयोजन किया था। उन्होंने अपनी प्रारंभिक शिक्षा मदरसा सुल्तान उल मदारिस से प्राप्त की थी। इसके बाद वह अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय चले गए जहाँ उन्होंने कला स्नातक की उपाधि प्राप्त की। बाद में उन्होंने उसी विश्वविद्यालय से अरबी साहित्य में मास्टर डिग्री हासिल की। फिर उन्होंने लखनऊ विश्वविद्यालय से डॉक्टरेट की डिग्री हासिल की।

• लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल हरपाल सिंह ने भारतीय सेना के नए इंजीनियर-इन-चीफ की नियुक्ति की। वह वर्तमान में सीमा सड़क संगठन के महानिदेशक हैं और 1 दिसंबर को अपनी नई नियुक्ति करेंगे।

• राष्ट्रीय रक्षा अकादमी, खडकवासला के पूर्व छात्र लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल हरपाल सिंह को 24 दिसंबर 1982 को कोर ऑफ इंजीनियर्स में नियुक्त किया गया था। उन्होंने बाद में जम्मू और कश्मीर घाटी में सीमा सड़क, कार्य बल की कमान संभाली। वह भूटान, मुंबई में मुख्य अभियंता (नौसेना), और मुख्य अभियंता मुख्यालय पूर्वी कमान में प्रोजेक्ट दन्तक (बीआरओ) के मुख्य अभियंता भी रह चुके हैं। लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल हरपाल सिंह डिफेंस सर्विसेज स्टाफ कॉलेज, वेलिंगटन, उच्च कमान और राष्ट्रीय रक्षा कॉलेज पाठ्यक्रम के स्नातक हैं।

UNDP और इन्वेस्ट इंडिया ने एसडीजी इन्वेस्टर मैप फॉर इंडिया लॉन्च किया

• इन्वेस्ट इंडिया और संयुक्त राष्ट्र विकास कार्यक्रम (UNDP) ने भारत के लिए एसडीजी इन्वेस्टर मैप फॉर इंडिया लॉन्च किया है। इसने 18 निवेश अवसर क्षेत्र प्रस्तुत किये हैं। यह निवेश अवसर क्षेत्र छह महत्वपूर्ण सतत विकास लक्ष्यों में हैं जो संयुक्त राष्ट्र द्वारा शुरू किए गए थे। यह मानचित्र उन कारकों को सक्षम करेगा जो भारत को अपने सतत विकास लक्ष्यों को प्राप्त करने में मदद करेंगे। यह भारत को यह समझने में मदद करेगा कि यह देश में सतत विकास लक्ष्य वित्तपोषण की खाई को कैसे कम किया जा सकता है।

• इस मैप को हेल्थकेयर, शिक्षा, वित्तीय सेवाओं, कृषि और संबद्ध गतिविधियों, नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा और वैकल्पिक व टिकाऊ पर्यावरण जैसे छह सतत विकास लक्ष्य सक्षम क्षेत्र में विकसित किया गया है।

• विकासशील देशों में महामारी के कारण सतत विकास लक्ष्यों के वित्तपोषण का अंतर 400 बिलियन अमरीकी डालर से अधिक हो गया है। C-19 से पहले भी वित्त पोषण के अंतराल में 2.5 ट्रिलियन अमरीकी डालर की कमी थी।

• भारत को अपने संयुक्त राष्ट्र के सतत विकास लक्ष्यों को पूरा करने के लिए 2.64 ट्रिलियन अमरीकी डालर के निवेश की आवश्यकता है। स्टैण्डर्ड चार्टर्ड, एसडीजी इन्वेस्ट मैप के अनुसार, भारत को स्वच्छ ऊर्जा के लिए 1558 बिलियन अमरीकी डालर, डिजिटल पहुंच के लिए 377.4 बिलियन अमरीकी डालर, परिवहन अवसंरचना के लिए 505 बिलियन अमरीकी डालर और स्वच्छ जल और स्वच्छता के लिए 192 बिलियन अमरीकी डालर की आवश्यकता है। स्टैंडर्ड चार्टर्ड के अनुसार, देश के 7% लोगों के पास बिजली तक पहुंच नहीं है।

• प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने सिख धर्म के संस्थापक और सिखों के दस गुरुओं में से गुरु नानक देव के जीवन और आदर्शों पर एक पुस्तक जारी की है। इस पुस्तक को कृपाल सिंह जी ने लिखा है। पुस्तक विमोचन के दौरान अल्पसंख्यक मामलों के मंत्री मुख्तार अब्बास नकवी भी मौजूद थे।

• एचडीएफसी बैंक ने एसएमई और स्टार्ट-अप का समर्थन करने के लिए इन्वेंटिवप्रेन्योर चैंबर ऑफ कॉमर्स एंड इंडस्ट्रीज (ICCI) के साथ एक समझौता ज्ञापन पर हस्ताक्षर किए हैं। इस एसोसिएशन के माध्यम से, ICCI एचडीएफसी बैंक से अंतर-आलिया वित्तीय और अन्य सुविधाओं की सुविधा के लिए विभिन्न स्टार्टअप्स / एसएमई / MSMEs को संलग्न, नामांकन और समर्थन करेगा।

Centre, States can't have indefinite right over citizens' acquired properties: Supreme Court

• The Supreme Court on November 24, 2020 ruled that the central and state governments cannot be have an indefinite or overriding right over the acquired properties of citizens.

• The court ruled that though the right to properties is not a fundamental right, the governments cannot occupy citizens' properties.

• The ruling was made by a bench comprising Justices Indira Banerjee and S Ravindra Bhat.

Tenth edition of National Science Film Festival kicks off virtually

• The tenth edition of prestigious National science film festival kicked off on 24th November 2020 in a virtual mode.

• The four-day long film festival has been jointly organized by Vigyan Prasar, an autonomous agency under the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India and the Tripura State Council of Science and Technology, Govt. of Tripura from 24 to 27 November 2020.

• A total of 372 films in different languages were received for participation, of which 115 films have been shortlisted by the ten-member jury to be screened during the festival.

Himachal Pradesh govt launches ‘Him Suraksha Abhiyan’

• Himachal Pradesh government has launched ‘Him Suraksha Abhiyan’ to sensitize the people regarding C-19 pandemic and also to collect information regarding symptoms of diseases like TB, Leprosy, sugar and blood pressure by the door to door campaign throughout the State.

• Under this Abhiyan about 8000 teams comprising of Health, Ayurveda, Women and Child Development, Panchayati Raj Departments, District Administration and NGOs would be involved in this campaign. It would ensure door to door data collection of health parameters of the people.

Narendra Singh Tomar virtually inaugurates Phagwara mega food park

• Union Food Processing Industries Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has virtually inaugurated the Rs 107.83 crore mega food park at Phagwara in Kapurthala district of Punjab.

• So far, 37 mega food parks have been sanctioned across the country, of which 20 have started functioning.

• The mega food park, spread over 55 acres of land and that will benefit 25,000 farmers, is equipped with warehouses in 3,944 square meters, silos with 20,000-tonne capacity, cold storage with 3,000-tonne capacity as well as individually quick-frozen and deep freezer units and other facilities.

Merger of Lakshmi Vilas Bank & DBS Bank approved by Union Cabinet

• The Union Cabinet on November 25, 2020 approved the merger of Lakshmi Vilas Bank Limited (LVB) with Singapore-based DBS Bank India Limited. With this development, there will be no restrictions on the depositors for withdrawing money from their deposits from Lakshmi Vilas Bank.

• Under the ‘Scheme of Amalgamation of Lakshmi Vilas Bank with DBS Bank India Limited’, DBS would invest Rs 2,500 crore in the equity of the bank, to improve the capital position of the merged entity.

• DBIL is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore based DBS Bank Ltd.The merger will increase the branches of DBIL to around 600 from the current 27 branches.

India Post Payments Bank launches PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana

• India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) has launched a low-cost insurance scheme ‘Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY)’ for its customers to bring large sections of the underserved and unserved population into the financial mainstream.

• IPPB has collaborated with PNB MetLife India Insurance Company for this product.

Malayalam film Jallikattu is India’s official Oscar entry

• Malayalam film Jallikattu has been selected as India's official entry for Oscars in the foreign-language film category. The film was unanimously chosen among 27 entries across Hindi, Marathi and other languages.

• Directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, Jallikattu revolves around a bull that escapes from a slaughterhouse in a hilly remote village on the eve of its scheduled slaughter and an entire tribe of men coming together to stop the bull.

Football legend Diego Maradona passed away

• Football legend from Argentina, Diego Maradona passed away on November 25, 2020, after suffering a heart attack. He was 60-years old.

• The Footballer suffered cardiac arrest and paramedics failed to revive him.

• The star footballer had begun his professional career at the age of 16 with Argentinos Juniors and later he went on to become of the greatest players ever to play football.

• Maradona represented Boca Juniors, Napoli, Barcelona, Newell’s Old Boys as a player. He was also considered the main player in taking Argentina to the country’s second World Cup title in 1986.

Greg Barclay of New Zealand elected as ICC Chairman

• Greg Barclay of New Zealand was appointed as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Barclay, an Auckland-based commercial lawyer, will succeed Shashank Manohar, who resigned from the post earlier in 2020.

• Barclay is currently the representative of New Zealand Cricket (NZC) on the board of the ICC.

• उच्चतम न्यायालय ने 24 नवंबर, 2020 को फैसला सुनाया कि केंद्र और राज्य सरकारों को नागरिकों के अधिग्रहित गुणों पर अनिश्चितकालीन या अतिदेय नहीं हो सकता है।

• अदालत ने फैसला सुनाया कि हालांकि संपत्तियों का अधिकार मौलिक अधिकार नहीं है, सरकारें नागरिकों की संपत्तियों पर कब्जा नहीं कर सकती हैं।

• यह निर्णय न्यायमूर्ति इंदिरा बनर्जी और एस रवींद्र भट की एक पीठ द्वारा किया गया था।

वर्चुली आरंभ हुआ राष्ट्रीय विज्ञान फिल्म महोत्सव का 10 वां संस्करण

• प्रतिष्ठित राष्ट्रीय विज्ञान फिल्म महोत्सव का 10 वां संस्करण 24 नवंबर 2020 को वर्चुली मोड में शुरू हो गया है। भारत सरकार के विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी विभाग के तहत एक स्वायत्त एजेंसी, विज्ञान प्रसार और त्रिपुरा सरकार के त्रिपुरा स्टेट काउंसिल ऑफ साइंस एंड टेक्नोलॉजी द्वारा संयुक्त रूप से इस चार दिवसीय लंबे फिल्म समारोह का आयोजन 24 से 27 नवंबर 2020 तक किया जा रहा है।

• विज्ञान फिल्म महोत्सव भारत में विज्ञान फिल्मों को बढ़ावा देने के लिए विभिन्न विषयों के तहत पेशेवरों, शौकिया और छात्र फिल्म निर्माताओं द्वारा बनाई गई विज्ञान फिल्मों का प्रदर्शन करने के लिए एक अनूठा मंच प्रदान करता है।

हिमाचल प्रदेश सरकार ने शुरू किया "हिम सुरक्षा अभियान"

• हिमाचल प्रदेश सरकार ने C -19 महामारी के बारे में लोगों को जागरूक करने के लिए "हिम सुरक्षा अभियान" की शुरुआत करने के साथ-साथ पूरे राज्य में टीबी, कुष्ठ रोग, शुगर और रक्तचाप जैसी बीमारियों के बारे में जानकारी एकत्र करने के लिए डोर टू डोर अभियान की भी शुरूआत की है।

• इस अभियान के तहत स्वास्थ्य, आयुर्वेद, महिला और बाल विकास, पंचायती राज विभागों, जिला प्रशासन और गैर सरकारी संगठनों से युक्त लगभग 8000 टीमें इस अभियान में कार्य करेंगी। यह लोगों के स्वास्थ्य मापदंडों के डोर-टू-डोर डेटा संग्रह को सुनिश्चित करेगा।

• मुख्यमंत्री जयराम ठाकुर ने शिमला में कार्यक्रम का शुभारंभ करते हुए कहा कि इस अभियान के तहत C-19 संदिग्ध के साथ न केवल रोगग्रस्त रोगियों का पता लगाया जाएगा, बल्कि अन्य बीमारियों वाले रोगियों को भी अभियान के माध्यम से सूचीबद्ध किया जाएगा। उन्होंने राज्य के लोगों से आग्रह किया कि वे स्वास्थ्य कर्मचारियों को उनके रोगों और स्वास्थ्य मापदंडों के बारे में सटीक जानकारी प्रदान करने के लिए पूरी सहायता प्रदान करें।

केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने लक्ष्मी विलास बैंक का विलय डीबीएस बैंक में करने के RBI के प्रस्ताव को दी मंजूरी

• केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने वित्तीय संकट से जूझ रहे लक्ष्मी विलास बैंक (LVB) का विलय डीबीएस बैंक इंडिया में करने की मंजूरी दे दी है। इससे पहले भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक ने 17 नवंबर को सिंगापुर के डीबीएस बैंक की भारतीय शाखा के साथ ऋणदाता के विलय का प्रस्ताव रखा।

• 94-साल पुराना एलवीबी अब अस्तित्व में नहीं रहेगा और इसकी इक्विटी पूरी तरह से समाप्त हो जाएगी। इसकी जमा पूंजी अब डीबीएस इंडिया की लिखत पर होगी। लक्ष्मी विलास इस साल बचाव के लिए विलय किया जाने वाला दूसरा बैंक है, और 15 महीनों में एक प्रमुख जमा-लेने वाली संस्था का तीसरा पतन और कोरोनोवायरस महामारी की शुरुआत के बाद से पहला बैंक है।

IPPB ने लॉन्च की PM जीवन ज्योति बीमा योजना

• इंडिया पोस्ट पेमेंट्स बैंक (IPPB) ने अपने ग्राहकों के लिए कम लागत वाली बीमा योजना प्रधानमंत्री जीवन ज्योति बीमा योजना (PMJJBY) की शुरूआत की है ताकि अलग-थलग पड़े और असुरक्षित आबादी के बड़े वर्गों को वित्तीय मुख्यधारा में जोड़ा जा सके। IPPB ने इस बीमा योजना के लिए PNB MetLife इंडिया इन्सुरेंस कंपनी के साथ साझेदारी की है।

43 mobile apps banned by Indian Government for users

• The Union Electronics and Information Technology Ministry has banned 43 more mobile apps for the users. The Ministry issued an order on November 24, 2020, blocking access to 43 apps under section 69A of Information Technology Act.

• Earlier in September 2020, the Government had banned 118 mobile apps and banned 59 apps in June 2020.

IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad launches International version of UMANG to mark 3 years of App

• On November 23, 2020, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Communications and Law & Justice launched the international version of the UMANG app, to mark the occasion of 3 years of UMANG and also celebrate over 2000 services milestone.

• The international app has been launched for select countries that include USA, UK, Canada, Australia, UAE, Netherlands, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.

• The UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) was launched on 23 November 2017 by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the fifth edition of the Global Conference on Cyberspace in New Delhi.

First cow hospital of Northeast inaugurated in Assam’s Dibrugarh

• A cow shelter in Assam’s Dibrugarh inaugurated Northeast’s first-ever cow hospital, on the occasion of Gopashtami.

• The hospital, Surbhi Aarogyashala, is set up by Shree Gopal Gaushala at a cost of Rs 17 lakh.

• There are 368 cows in the shelter.The hospital will provide services in 30 km radius.

RBI imposes six-month ban on Manta Urban Cooperative Bank

• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has banned the Manta Urban Cooperative Bank in Jalna district of Maharashtra for six months for payment of money and loan transactions.

• The central bank has given some instructions to this bank, which will be effective for six months since the bank closed on 17 November 2020.

• State Bank of India (SBI) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Luxembourg Stock Exchange (LuxSe).

• The MoU will help SBI and LuxSE set up a long-term cooperation mechanism, and promote ESG (Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance) and green finance.

• Through this MoU, the Luxembourg Stock Exchange would work towards creating a sustainable environment for issuers, asset managers, and investors in terms of ESG focused funds and bonds.

• The Pilibhit Tiger Reserve (PTR), situated in the Pilibhit district and Shahjahanpur District of Uttar Pradesh has won the first-ever international award, TX2, along with the state Forest department, for doubling the number of tigers.

• *TX2 stands for ‘Tigers times two’, signalling the goal to double wild tigers.

India test-fires land-attack version of BrahMos missile

• India successfully test-fired a land-attack version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands territory at 10 am on November 24, 2020.

• The supersonic cruise missile successfully hit its target, which was on another island. The test-firing was conducted by the Indian Army.

• The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile is the world's fastest operational system in its class and recently DRDO has extended the range of the missile system from the existing 298 km to around 450 km.

Congress veteran Ahmed Patel passes away

• Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP, Ahmed Patel passed away. He was Lok Sabha MP for three terms from 1977 to 1989 and Rajya Sabha MP since 1993 representing Gujarat.

• He also served as the political secretary to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and was one of the party’s top negotiators during the UPA regime.

Veteran TV actor Ashiesh Roy passes away

• Television actor Ashiesh Roy has passed away, suffering from kidney ailment during the C-19. He was 55.

• भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक (RBI) ने महाराष्ट्र के जालना जिले में Manta शहरी सहकारी बैंक को धन और ऋण लेनदेन के भुगतान के लिए छह महीने के लिए प्रतिबंधित कर दिया है।

• केंद्रीय बैंक ने इस बैंक को कुछ निर्देश दिए हैं, जो 17 नवंबर 2020 को बैंक बंद होने के बाद से छह महीने के लिए प्रभावी होगा।

• स्टेट बैंक ऑफ इंडिया (SBI) ने लक्ज़मबर्ग स्टॉक एक्सचेंज (LuxSe) के साथ एक समझौता ज्ञापन (MoU) पर हस्ताक्षर किए हैं।

• MoU SBI और LuxSE को दीर्घकालिक सहयोग तंत्र स्थापित करने में मदद करेगा, और ESG (पर्यावरण, सामाजिक और कॉर्पोरेट प्रशासन) और हरित वित्त को बढ़ावा देगा।

• इस समझौता ज्ञापन के माध्यम से, लक्ज़मबर्ग स्टॉक एक्सचेंज ईएसजी केंद्रित धन और बांड के संदर्भ में जारीकर्ता, परिसंपत्ति प्रबंधकों और निवेशकों के लिए एक स्थायी वातावरण बनाने की दिशा में काम करेगा।

• India will host the Summit of the G20 Group in 2023. India was earlier slated to host the summit in 2022.

• India and Indonesia have swapped their respective hosting year of G20 as Indonesia would also chair the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2023.

5th India International Cherry Blossom Festival cancelled

• The 5th India International Cherry Blossom Festival has been cancelled due to C-19 pandemic. The festival is held every year in Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, to celebrate the unique autumn flowering of the Himalayan cherry blossoms and mark the beginning of India’s version of autumn.

Malaysia hosted 2020 APEC Summit

• The 2020 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Malaysian Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

• This was the first time that all 21 APEC Economic Leaders met virtually due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The APEC 2020 ended with the adoption of the APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040 and the 2020 Kuala Lumpur Declaration. The APEC Summit 2021 will be hosted by New Zealand. This is the second time Malaysia hosted an APEC meeting, having hosted one in 1998.

• The theme of the APEC Malaysia 2020 was “Optimising Human Potential Towards a Resilient Future of Shared Prosperity: Pivot. Prioritise. Progress”.

• Life Insurance Corporation of India has launched a digital application for agents for onboarding to get a life insurance policy. The Digital Application is called “ANANDA”, which is an acronym for Atma Nirbhar Agents NewBusiness Digital Application.

• The Digital application is a tool for the onboarding process to get the life insurance policy through a paperless module with the help of the agent or intermediary.

IBM to Acquire SAP Consulting Partner TruQua

• IBM said that it has acquired TruQua, an IT services and consulting company focused on SAP’s finance and analytics technologies.

• Big Blue said the deal will support its hybrid growth strategy and expand its breadth of consulting services.

• IBM said the deal is expected to close in Q4 2020. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Indian Navy gets 9th P-8I anti-submarine warfare aircraft

• Indian Navy has got its ninth Boeing P-8I long-range maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft, part of the nearly $1 billion deal with the US for four additional planes signed in 2016.

• India, which had first signed a contract for eight such aircraft in 2009, is also negotiating a deal for six more P-8Is with the US under the government-to-government route. While the ninth aircraft was scheduled to be handed over to the Indian Navy in July this year, the C-19 pandemic delayed plans.

• The remaining three are scheduled to be handed over to India in 2021. Incidentally, the aircraft, the latest of which landed at INS Hansa in Goa.

Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi passes away

• Three-time Assam Chief Minister from Congress party Tarun Gogoi, has passed away after been undergoing treatment for post-Covid complications. He was 84.

• Tarun Gogoi had served as the Chief Minister of Assam between 2001 and 2015.He was the longest serving chief minister of Assam.

• Apart from this, Gogoai had also served as the food and food processing industry minister in the Union Cabinet of India under Prime Minister Narasimha Rao between 1991 and 1996.

Sahitya Academy award winner Shaik Khaja Hussain passes away

• Noted Telugu poet, journalist, scriptwriter Shaik Khaja Hussain, has passed away after brief illness. He was 70.

• Popularly known as Devi Priya, the renowned poet bagged the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award in 2017, for his book Gaali Rangu.

India becomes 4th nation to have navigation satellite system as IRNSS Gets IMO Recognition

• The Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) has been recognised by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) as a part of the World Wide Radio Navigation System (WWRNS) for operation in the Indian Ocean Region.

• With this, India has become the only fourth country in the world to have its independent regional navigation satellite system recognised by IMO.

• The other three countries that have its navigation systems recognised by the IMO are the US [Global Position System (GPS)], Russia and China.

• The IRNSS will now be officially used to provide accurate position information services to assist in the navigation of ships in Indian ocean waters within the area of approximately 1,500 km from the Indian boundary

PM Modi called for Spirit of trusteeship towards planet Earth at 15th G20 Summit

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the 15th G20 Leaders Summit on November 21, 2020. The two-day summit was convened by Saudi Arabia, chair of G20 for this year.

• The summit saw the participation of the heads of governments of 19 member countries, the European Union and other invited countries and international organizations. It was conducted virtually due to the C -19 pandemic.

• While speaking at the summit, PM Narendra Modi congratulated the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its leadership for its successful Presidency of the G20 in 2020 and for organizing the second virtual G20 Summit in 2020 despite the challenges posed by the C-19 outbreak.

Second Trilateral Maritime Exercise SITMEX-20 held in Andaman Sea

• The 2nd edition of India, Singapore and Thailand Trilateral Maritime Exercise SITMEX-20 was conducted from 21 to 22 November 20 in Andaman Sea.

• The 2020 edition of the exercise is being hosted by Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN).

• Indian Navy (IN) Ships including indigenously built ASW corvette Kamorta and missile corvette Karmuk participated in the exercise.

• The SITMEX series of exercises are conducted to enhance mutual inter-operability between IN, RSN and Royal Thai Navy (RTN) and also strengthen mutual confidence and develop common understanding and procedures towards enhancing the overall maritime security in the region.

• The first edition of SITMEX was hosted by Indian Navy in 2019 off Port Blair.

China to launch spacecraft to Moon to bring back lunar rocks, first attempt since 1970s

• China is all set to launch an unmanned spacecraft to the moon this week for bringing back the lunar rocks. It will be the first attempt by any nation in the world for retrieving the samples from the natural satellite of Earth since the 1970s.

• Named after the ancient Chinese Goddess of the moon, Chang’e-5 probe will seek on collecting the materials from the moon. It will help the scientists to understand more about its origin and surface.

• If China becomes successful in its mission, it will become the third country to retrieve moon samples, following the Soviet Union and the United States decades ago. The mission will also be testing China’s ability to remotely acquire the samples from space.

Bank Credit Rises 5.67%, Deposits Up 10.63%, RBI Data Shows

• Bank credit grew by 5.67 per cent to Rs 104.04 lakh crore, while deposits increased by 10.63 per cent to Rs 143.80 lakh crore in the fortnight ended November 6, according to RBI data.

• In the fortnight ended November 8, 2019, bank credit stood at Rs 98.46 lakh crore and deposits at Rs 129.98 lakh crore.

• On a year-on-year basis, non-food bank credit growth decelerated to 5.8 per cent in September 2020 from 8.1 per cent in the same month of the previous year.

• Credit to industry recorded ‘nil’ growth in September 2020 as compared to 2.7 per cent rise in September 2019.

• Credit to agriculture and allied activities rose by 5.9 per cent during the reporting month, as against a growth of 7 per cent in the same month last year.

• Loan growth to the services sector accelerated to 9.1 per cent in September 2020 from 7.3 per cent in September 2019.

• Personal loans registered a growth of 9.2 per cent in the month compared to 16.6 per cent growth in September 2019.

RBI becomes world’s first central bank with a million Twitter followers

• Reserve Bank of India, in a first among Central Banks, has become the first monetary authority that has gained 1 million followers on its official Twitter Handle.

• Shaktikanda Das, RBI Governor congratulated his colleagues on this occasion. He also has a separate Twitter Handle with 1.37 lakh followers. He shared the news of achievement through Twitter and congratulated everyone for the new milestone.

• India’s monetary authority has beaten the European Central Bank and US Federal Reserve on Twitter by becoming the most popular central bank to be followed on the microblogging site. Currently, the Reserve Bank of India is followed by as many as 10,00,513 followers on Twitter.

• भारतीय क्षेत्रीय नेविगेशन सैटेलाइट सिस्टम (IRNSS) को अंतर्राष्ट्रीय समुद्री संगठन (IMO) द्वारा हिंद महासागर क्षेत्र में संचालन के लिए वर्ल्ड वाइड रेडियो नेविगेशन सिस्टम (WWRNS) के एक भाग के रूप में मान्यता दी गई है।

• इसके साथ, भारत अपना स्वतंत्र क्षेत्रीय नेविगेशन उपग्रह प्रणाली आईएमओ द्वारा मान्यता प्राप्त करने वाला दुनिया का केवल चौथा देश बन गया है।

• अन्य तीन देश जिनके पास IMO द्वारा मान्यता प्राप्त नेविगेशन सिस्टम हैं, वे हैं अमेरिका [ग्लोबल पोजिशन सिस्टम (GPS)], रूस और चीन।

पीएम मोदी ने 15 वें जी 20 शिखर सम्मेलन में ग्रह पृथ्वी के प्रति विश्वास की भावना का आह्वान किया

• प्रधान मंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने 21 नवंबर, 2020 को 15 वें जी 20 लीडर्स समिट में भाग लिया। सऊदी अरब ने इस वर्ष के लिए जी 20 की अध्यक्षता में दो दिवसीय शिखर सम्मेलन आयोजित किया था।

• शिखर सम्मेलन में 19 सदस्य देशों, यूरोपीय संघ और अन्य आमंत्रित देशों और अंतरराष्ट्रीय संगठनों की सरकारों के प्रमुखों की भागीदारी देखी गई। यह C -19 महामारी के कारण वस्तुतः आयोजित किया गया था।

• भारत, सिंगापुर और थाईलैंड त्रिपक्षीय समुद्री अभ्यास SITMEX-20 का दूसरा संस्करण अंडमान सागर में 21 से 22 नवंबर 2020 तक आयोजित किया गया था।

• अभ्यास के 2020 संस्करण की मेजबानी रिपब्लिक ऑफ सिंगापुर नेवी (RSN) द्वारा की जा रही है।

• भारतीय नौसेना (IN) जहाजों सहित स्वदेश निर्मित ASW corvette Kamorta और मिसाइल कार्वेट करमुक ने अभ्यास में भाग लिया।

• IN, RSN और रॉयल थाई नेवी (RTN) के बीच आपसी अंतर-संचालन को बढ़ाने के लिए SITMEX श्रृंखला का आयोजन किया जाता है और यह आपसी विश्वास को मजबूत करता है और क्षेत्र में समग्र समुद्री सुरक्षा को बढ़ाने के लिए सामान्य समझ और प्रक्रियाओं को विकसित करता है।

• चीन चंद्र चट्टानों को वापस लाने के लिए इस सप्ताह चंद्रमा पर एक मानव रहित अंतरिक्ष यान लॉन्च करने की तैयारी कर रहा है। यह 1970 के दशक के बाद से पृथ्वी के प्राकृतिक उपग्रह से नमूने प्राप्त करने के लिए दुनिया के किसी भी देश द्वारा पहला प्रयास होगा।

• चंद्रमा की प्राचीन चीनी देवी के नाम पर, चांग’-5 जांच में चंद्रमा से सामग्री एकत्र करने की खोज की जाएगी। यह वैज्ञानिकों को इसकी उत्पत्ति और सतह के बारे में अधिक समझने में मदद करेगा।
