SSC CHSL: Important points

  • The Tier I will be an online test will comprise of multiple choice type questions.
  • The test will comprise of four parts –I, II, III, IV. Part –I will comprises of General Intelligence, English Language (Basic Knowledge), Quantitative Aptitude (Basic Arithmetic Skill) and General Awareness.
  • The test will be of total 200 marks with 25 questions from each section.
  • A negative mark of 0.50 marks will be applicable to every incorrect response.
  • The total time of the entire test is 75 minutes.
  • Tier II will be a descriptive test which will carry 100 marks and the test duration will be of 1 hour.

SSC CHSL: How to prepare for English

  You cannot master in English in just one day. You need to devote some sincere efforts and then English seems easy.

 The following list of important topics need to be worked on a daily basis:

  • Synonyms
  • Antonyms
  • Error Spotting
  • Fill in the blanks
  • Idioms/ Phrases
  • Spelling Mistakes
  • Sentence Correction
  • Cloze Test
  • Reading Comprehension
  • One Word Substitution

  1. For Synonyms and Antonyms, go through different books and sources to find out new words. List them, find out their meanings, google their synonyms and antonyms and learn them. Note down those words in a notebook which will help you for future reference.

  2. For topics like one word substitution and idioms and phrases, go through questions asked in previous papers. Practice questions from previous years and standard mock tests.

  3. For topics like fill in the blanks, you need to practice variety of questions from different books. Before answering these questions, read the sentence carefully. Make sure the word you have used to fill in the blank fits in well with the sentence.

  4. For error spotting questions and spelling mistakes questions, read the sentence carefully again and again. This will help you easily detect the errors. Do check the subject- verb agreement as it will help you to easily spot the error.

  5. Read magazines, newspapers and articles. It will help you to improve your proficiency in English.

  6. Make your grammar basics strong. This will make your foundation strong and make you easily solve all types of questions.

Section wise preparation tips:

Preparation tips for Quant and Statistics:

  • Make a list of topics in which you are strong at. Practice as many questions as you can from those topics and make them your strongest points.
  • Make a list of topics in which you are weak at. Practice those topics in detail which will make you score good in these topics as well.
  • In the examination, pick up topics which are your strength and will take less time for you to solve. After you are done with your strong areas, start with your weak areas.
  • Practice some short cut tricks and approaches which will help you to solve the questions in a faster way and will, in turn, save much of your time.
  • In case of quant, focus on topics like Geometry, Algebra, Percentage, Mensuration, Trigonometry, Profit and Loss etc.
  • In case of statistics, focus on topics like Skewness and Kurtosis, Correlation and Regression, Probability Theory, Time Series Analysis, Sampling Theory, Statistical Interference etc.

Preparation tips for English:

  • Strengthen your grammar and vocabulary by going through different standard grammar books.  
  • Go through different newspapers and articles. This practice will make your grammar and vocabulary strong and in turn will make your reading skills better.
  • For sentence correction and arrangement, there is no specific rule. You need to identify the link between two sentences and if the sentence link makes sense. You need to try different arrangements and check if the arrangements make sense.
  • Prepare a list of new words and learn them. Find out the meanings of the words and list them. This habit will make you remember so many new words.
  • Start with the basics of grammar (parts of speech, active and passive voice, direct and indirect speech etc.)
  • Relax before your exam. Relaxation will make you prepare well before the examination. It will keep you stress free and will keep your mind free to grasp the concepts in a better way.

Preparation tips for General Studies (Finance and Economics):

  • General Studies needs utmost attention. This section is the most unpredictable section from which different types of questions can be asked.

SSC CHSL Hall Ticket: Details

The competition in the year 2017 is expected to be of higher level. The SSC CHSL examination every time is a great success and is also expected to be the same this year. The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is a prominent recruitment organization which conducts examinations on an annual basis.
