Give solution plzz

Question:

Permissible bending moment in a circular shaft under pure bending is M according to maximum principal stress theory of failure. According to maximum shear stress theory of failure, the permissible bending moment in the same shaft is

Options:
A) 1/2 M
B) M
C) \(\sqrt[]{M}\)
D) 2M
Solution:

Ans: (b) According to maximum principal stress theory, maximum principal stress = \(\sigma\)

In case of maximum shear stress theory,

\(\cfrac{\sigma_1-\sigma_3}{2} = \cfrac{\sigma}{2}\)

\(\therefore \ \ \sigma_1 - \sigma_3 = \sigma\)
