answer is wrong

Question:

A precious stone weighing 35 grams worth Rs.1225 is accidently dropped and gets broken into two pieces having weights in the ratio of 2 : 5. If the price varies as the square of the weight then find the loss incurred.

Options:
A)

Rs.570

B)

Rs.600

C)

Rs.550

D)

Rs.500

Solution:

The price varies as the square of the weight,

P = K x W^2

1225 = K x 35^2

K = 1

Thus, P = 1*W^2

When the two pieces are in the ratio 2 : 5 (Weight wise) then we know that their weights must be 1g and 25g respectively.

Their values should be :

10g piece: 1 x 10^2 = Rs. 100;

25g piece: 1 x 25^2 = Rs. 625.

Total value of stone now, = 100+ 625 = Rs. 725

Loss incurred = 1225 - 725 = Rs. 500
