Why are you subtracting half of the radius?

Question:

A spherical shaped ball is placed inside a cube of side 5 cm such that the ball just fits the cube then find the shortest distance of ball from the vertex of the cube?

it is correct half of diagonal should be subtracted from radius, that ll be the shortest distance from vertex.
