The CSA of the remaining portion can never be greater than the CSA of the original cone. Hence, CSA of the remaining portion must be 8/9[not 9/8] of the original cone.

Question:

A hollow cone is cut by a plane parallel to the base and the upper portion is removed. It the curved surface of the remainder is  \(\frac{8}{9}\)   times of the curved surface of the whole cone, find the ratio of line-segment into which the cone's altitude is divided by the plane.
