wrong question (Question: 269913.0 )

how you taken x-6 and all the other values taken are not right. can you explain.

Question:

The ages of the two persons differ by 20 years. If 5 years ago, the older one be three times as old as the younger one, then their ages after 10 years are –

Options:
A)

35, 15 years

B)

25, 45 years

C)

30, 50 years

D)

35, 10 years

Solution:

Ans: (b)

Let present age of elder one = x years

Then, present age of younger one = (x – 6) years

Then,

(x – 5) = 3(x – 25)

x – 5 = 3x – 75

2x = 70 ⇒ x = 35 years

Younger = 15 years

∴ The age of elder person after 10 years = x + 10 = 35 + 10 = 45 years

And the age of younger person = 25 years
