I'll give you brief information of my study on Permanent Settlement of Land in British India:
According to my brief study:
There were THREE major systems:
1. Zamindari System : Owner of the Land were Zamindars) ,They used to collect the Tax form the Peasants who worked on their farms and pay to the British Govt.
2. Ryotwari System (Ryot means Peasants): Owners of the Land were Peasants. They use to pay Taxes directly to the British Govt.
3. Mahalwari System (Mahal means House,Residence or Village) It was mixture of both Zamindari & Mahalwari system. Peasants were owners of the Land. Village Committee was responsible for the Tax Collection through their village head called Lamardar.
Hope this short infor would be Helpful for everyone.:)
