Question:

Atoms whose nuclei have the same number of neutrons but different numbers of protons is called -

Options:
A)

Isobars

B)

Isotopes

C)

Isotones

D)

None of these

Solution:

Two nuclides are isotones if they have the same neutron number N, but different proton number Z. For example, boron-12 and carbon-13 nuclei both contain 7 neutrons, and so are isotones.  Thus the atoms of elements having the same mass number but different atomic number is called Isotones

Isotones are atomic nuclei with the same number of neutrons (N) and different numberof protons(Z)
