Question:

In the following question, some part of the sentence may have errors. Find out which part of the sentence has an error and select the appropriate option. If a sentence is free from error, select ‘No Error’.

How can you give up this job when you are 1)/ just about to be 2)/ appointed as a 'General Manager'? 3)/ No error 4)

Options:
A)

1

B)

2

C)

3

D)

4

Solution:

Answer: Option (2)

Explanation: In  the  given sentence, part (2) contains two similar adverbs as 'just' and 'about' which are very similar in meaning. One of them can be removed to correct the sentence. Hence, the correct sentence would be, 'How can you give up this job when you are about to be appointed as a General Manager?'

Note: we CAN (not necessary) use 'as' with 'appoint' when we talk about position . Search 'appoint' in Cambridge Dictionary (online) for more info and uses of 'appoint'.
