concave mirror too

Question:

Which one of the following can be used to form a virtual and magnified image of an object?

Options:
A)

Both convex mirror and convex lens

B)

Both concave mirror and convex lens

C)

Concave lens only

D)

Convex lens only

Solution:

Ans: (d) A virtual image refers to an optical image that is formed by the superficial divergence of light rays from a point such as that formed by plane mirror.

Virtual images can be formed only in case of convex lens when the distance between the object and lens is less than the focal length of lens. In case of concave mirror, virtual image can be formed when object is located between the focal point and the mirror.

Dear student
Option (d) is correct answer
because only convex lens can form
virtual as well as magnified image
of an object whereas concave can only
form virtual image not magnified one.
