the question should be difference between the selling prices.

Question:
The difference between selling price of an object after a discount of 40% on Rs. 500 and the successive discounts of 36% and 5% on the same amount is –
Options:
A) Rs. 6
B) Rs. 7
C) Rs. 4 
D) Rs. 5
Solution:
Ans: (c) SP after a discount of 40% on Rs. 500 

= 60% of 500 = Rs. 300

SP after two successive discounts of 

36% & 5% on 500

= 64% of 95% of 500

= \(\cfrac{64}{100}\) × \(\cfrac{95}{100}\) × 500 = Rs. 304

Difference = (304 – 300) = Rs. 4
