sqrt(x) is always positive

Question:
If (a – 3)2 + (b – 4)2 + (c – 9)2 = 0, then the value of \(\sqrt{a+b+c}\)   is:
Options:
A) -4
B) 4
C) ± 4
D) ±2
Solution:

(a - 3)2 + (b - 4)2 + (c - 9)2 = 0

a – 3 = 0 a = 3

b – 4 = 0 b = 4 and c – 9 = 0

c = 9

∴ \(\sqrt{a+b+c}\)   = \(\sqrt{3+4+9}\)   = \(\sqrt{16}\) = 4
