Question:
A sum of money becomes 3 times in 12 years. In how many years it will become 5 times at the same rate of simple interest?
Options:
A) 20 years
B) 16 years
C) 24 years
D) 30 years
Solution:

Ans: (c)

Given , sum will be three times i.e , A = 3P

Therefore  SI = A - P = 3P - P = 2P

SI = P*R*T / 100

From here putting SI = 2P , T = 12 years  we get ,  R = 100/6 %

Now Sum will be 5 times , A = 5P

SI = A - P = 5P - P = 4P

SI = P*R*T / 100

Putting SI= 4P , R = 100/6 % , we will get  T = 24  years

Dear Student, In first case sum of money becomes 3 times the principal , it means amount = 3 P So SI = A - P = 3P - P = 2P SI = P*R*T / 100 2P = P*R*12 /100 R = 100/6 % Now in second case , Sum becomes 5 times the principal , It means A = 5P SI = 5P - P = 4P SI = P*R*T / 100 4P = P*(100/6)*T / 100 T = 6*4 T = 24 years The given answer is correct.
