red is correct

Solution:

Ans: (a) red and blue wavelengths of light are the most effective in photosynthesis because they have exactly the right amount of energy to energize, or excite, chlorophyll electrons and boost them out of their orbits to a higher energy level.

Photosynthesis happens best in blue light.

Leaves are green. That’s because chlorophyll is green.

Being green means that the leaves are absorbing all of the colors EXCEPT green. So reds, yellows, blues, purples…just not green.

Red light is generally less energetic than blue - and to give plants the maximum possibility to perform photosynthesis, a blue light is far better than red. In fact, specifically, light at 450 nanometers is best. “Grow lights” that are made for growing plants indoors are designed to put out more energy in the 400 to 500 nanometer range (blue) for this precise reason.

However, plants also use red light to trigger things like flowering and germination - so providing them ONLY blue light isn’t enough.

Plants evolved photosynthesis in the oceans - and water absorbs most of the red and green light very quickly - so using blue is what they evolved to do. Blue is also good because it’s scattered across the entire sky - so plants can get light from the sky, even when their leaves are in shadow from direct sunlight.

Once out on land, flowering plants started to appear and needed to coordinate the times when they flower so that pollination can happen efficiently. The amount of red light varies with the time of day and the season due to the angle of the sun…so they use red light to help them time all of those things.
