Dear Toprankers team,
5 persons running at a time the we get 1 as a winner and 4 remains
another 5 person runs we get 1 as winner and 4 remains.
Now, the winner of second race may loose to any of the 4 remaining in 1st race.
Nowhere in the question it is mentioned that it is a knockout race.
So your logic is wrong.

Question:

Six hundred and twenty five students enter a 100m race. The track has five lanes. At the end of each race the winner survives, while other four are eliminated. How many races are needed to determine the champion ?
