75*75=?

Question:

 

If sin θ + cos θ =   75    , where 0 < θ < 2π, then find the value of tan θ + cot θ.

Options:
A)

2  13   

B)

2  16   

C)

2  112   

D)

2  124   

Solution:

Ans: (c) sin θ + cos θ =   75       

Squaring on both sides

Sin2 θ + cos2 θ + 2 sin θ cos θ =  4925   

1 + 2 sin θ cos θ =  4925   

2 sin θ cos θ =  4925    – 1 =    2425   

sin θ cos θ =    1225    = 2  112   

now, tan θ + cot θ = sin θ/ cos θ + cos θ/ sin θ 

= (Sin2 θ + cos2 θ)/ sin θ cos θ = 1/ sin θ cos θ

1/(12/25) = 25/12 = 2 112
