wrong approach (Question: 108815.0 )

why do we need the values of BC and AD when we are given length of both the parallel lines and distance between them.
Can't we directly calculate the area ?

Question:

A field is of trapezium shape whose parallel sides are 20 mtr. and 41 mtr. long,perpendicular distance between them 8 mtr. and other two sides are 10 mtr. and 17 mtr. long. Find the total cost to level the field at the rate of Rs.30 per mtr2.

Options:
A) Rs.7320
B) Rs.8320
C) Rs.6320
D) Rs.9320
Solution:
Ans: (a) 


In \(\triangle\)AEF,

AF = 17 meter

On making triplet, we can conclude that :

FE = 15 meter & AE = 8 meter

Also, In \(\triangle\)BCD,

BC = 10 meter

On making triplet, we can conclude that :

BD = 8 meter

CD = 6 meter

Also, 15 + 6 + 20 = 41 which is satisfying.

Now, Area of trapezium = \(\cfrac{1}{2}\times8\times15+20\times8+\cfrac{1}{2}\times6\times8\)

= 84 + 160 = 244 meter2
