Question:

   D and E are points on side AB and AC of ΔABC. DE is parallel to BC. If AD:DB = 2:5 and area of ΔADE is 8 sq cm, what is the ratio of area of ΔADE and area of quadrilateral BDEC?

Options:
A)

     4:45

B)

     45:4

C)

     8:45

D)

     45:8

Solution:

ADDB=25ADAB=22+5=27Since DE||BC,ΔADE~ΔABC (By AASimilarity)Area of ΔADEArea of ΔABC =ADAB  =27  2=>Area of Δ ABC=8×72  2 =98 cm2

  Area of quadrilateral BDEC = Area of ∆ABC – Area of ∆ADE = 98-8=90cm2

Area of ΔADEArea of quadrilateral BDEC=890=445
