now and never is a phrase so it can't be changed to then or never.

Question:

In the following questions, a sentence has been given in Direct/Indirect Speech.

Out of the four alternatives suggested, select the one which best expresses the same sentence in Indirect/Direct Speech.

The team leader said, “It’s now or never”.

Options:

The team leader said that it’s now or never.

The team leader said that it’s then or never.

Solution:

In assertive sentences like this, 'said' remains unchanged and is followed by 'that'. And 'Now' is changed into 'Then'.
