Why Taken AB as height of pole ? (Question: 186122.0 )

Since AB is a Perpendicular distance of a sun from Earth. Why we've assumed it as Height of a pole ?

The angle of elevation of the sun changes from 30º to 45º, the length of the shadow of a pole decreases by 4 metres, the height of the pole is (Assume= \(\sqrt{3}\) 1.732) –
