Question:

Raghu is a at point A. He walks 3 km to the North and then turns to his left. He walks 4 km in this direction. He turns left again and walks 6 km. If he wishes to reach point A again. In which direction should he be walking and what distance will he have to cover?

Options:
A)

South-East, 5 km

B)

South-East, 4 km

C)

North-East, 5 km

D)

North-East, 4 km

Solution:

By Pythagoras theorem

(AD)2    = (AE)2 + (DE)2 = (4)2 + (3)2 = 16 + 9

(AD)2 = 25  AD = 5 km

Raghu should walk 5 km in North-East direction to reach the point again.
