Question:

A shopkeeper mixed 45 kg rice of cost Rs.10 per kg and some amount of other type of rice of cost Rs.15 per kg and sold the mixture at Rs.14 per kg. Thus, if he gained 5%, then the amount of other type of rice was:

Options:
A) 90 kg.
B) 15 kg.
C) 20 kg.
D) 30 kg.
Solution:
Ans: (a) Selling price of mixture = \(\unicode{x20B9} \) 14

Cost price of mixture = \(\unicode{x20B9}\cfrac{14}{1.05}\unicode{x20B9} = \cfrac{40}{3} \)

Let the amount of rice costing \(\unicode{x20B9} \)15 per kg = x kg

Rice 1                           Rice2

10                                 15

                  40/3

15-40/3 =5/3              40/3-10 = 10/3

Quantity of First variety of Rice = 5/3 = 45

                                               1 = 45x3/5 = 27

therefore, quantity of second variety of Rice = 27x10/3 = 90kg
