Question:
Three sides of a triangle are 10cm, 24cm and 26cm respectively. Square of maximum possible area is cut from it. Find the length of side of that square (in Cm).
Options:
A) \(\cfrac{120}{17}\)
B) \(\cfrac{120}{18}\)
C) \(\cfrac{130}{17}\)
D) 18
Solution:

 \(\cfrac{10-x}{x}=\cfrac{x}{24-x}\)

(10-x)(24-x)=x2

240- 34x=0

x= 7\(\cfrac{1}{17}\) cm

Alternatively,

\(\cfrac{ab}{a+b}=\cfrac{10\times24}{34}=7\cfrac{1}{17}\)
