Question:

The hypotenuse of a right - angled isosceles triangle is 5 cm. The area of the triangle is -

Options:

5 cm²

6.25 cm²

6.50 cm²

12.5 cm²

Solution:

Ratio of sides : -

AB : BC : AC

$\frac{1}{5}$ : 1 : $\sqrt{2}$

$∴$ AB = $\frac{5}{\sqrt{2}} = B C$

Area of triangle $△$ ABC = $\frac{1}{2} \times \frac{5}{\sqrt{2}} \times \frac{5}{\sqrt{2}}$

= $\frac{25}{4}$ = 6.25 cm²
