unable to understand the solution (Question: 202163.0 )

Hi,
as per the question kamal and debasis are doing the job on alternate days so if I assume kamal starts on first day and debasis on second day , so on 11th day kamal should be working and he will take whole day to complete the work so according to me work should be finished on 11th day. please help me ..........

Question:
Kamal can do a piece of work in 12 days which Debashish can finish in 10 days. If they work at it on alternate days with Debashish beginning, in how many days the work will be finished ?
Options:
A) 10 \(\cfrac{2}{3}\) days 
B) 10 \(\cfrac{5}{6}\) days 
C) 11 \(\cfrac{3}{4}\) days 
D) 11 \(\cfrac{2}{7}\) days

Dear Student,

Yes you are right in case of work started by kamal. But In given question work started by debasis.
After 10 days, Debashis and Kamal will have each worked for 5 days. The amount of the work that has been done after 10 days is given by:
5/10+5/12=11/12
It is the turn of Debashis on the eleventh day, when he has 1/12 of the work remaining to finish. It will take Debashis 5/6 of the eleventh day to finish the work completely. Therefore the total time is 10 5/6 days.
