Question:

Income of A, B and C are in the ratio 7 : 11 : 9  and their expenditures are in the ratio  5 : 9 : 8. If A saves Rs.5000 in his income which is Rs.21000 per month then what is the saving of B and C respectively?

Options:
A)

1400, 4200

B)

1600, 2600

C)

2400, 1800

D)

4200, 1400

E)

None of these

Solution:

Ans: (d)

Let the incomes of A, B and C be 7x, 11x and 9x  respectively and their expenditures be 5y, 9y and 8y respectively.

According to the question,

7x = 21000

 x =3000

5y = 21000 – 5000

5y =16000

∴ y = 3200

Savings of B = 11 × 3000 – 9 × 3200

= 33000 – 28800 = 4200

Savings of C = 9 × 3000 – 8 × 3200

= 27000 – 25600 = 1400
