Ajay, facing North-west, walks 20√2 m and then turns towards South and walked 40 m. How far and in which direction is he now from the starting point?

Options:
A) 20 √2 m, South-West
B) 15 m, South-East

Solution:
Ans: (a) 

The movement can be shown as below:


∵ ∠AOB = 450 and ∠OAB = 450, therefore, OB = 20.

∠ AOC = 900

∴ OC = \(\sqrt[]{AC^2-OA^2} \)     =  20√2 m.

Hence, Ajay is standing 20√2 m. South-West from the starting point.
