" Deepak was determined to get a better job, pursuing higher studies" makes no sense!

Question:

#

Directions: A sentence/a part of the sentence is underlined. Below are given alternatives to the underlined part, which may improve the sentence. Choose the correct alternative. In case no improvement is required, choose ‘No improvement’ option.

Deepak was determined to get a better job, in pursuing higher studies.

Options:
A)

by pursuing higher

B)

in the pursuit of high

C)

pursuing higher

D)

No improvement required.

Solution:

Ans: (c) ‘Pursue’ cannot be replaced by ‘pursuit’ (noun). So (b) is ruled out. The phrase in bold may be replaced by option (c) because (a) has ‘by’ which is superfluous.
