In the following frequency distribution, class limits of some of the class intervals and mid-value of a class are missing. However, the mean of the distribution is known to be 46.5.


The values of x1, x2, x3, x4, x5 respectively will be :

Options:
A) (0, 20, 40, 60, 80)
B) (40, 50, 60, 70, 80)
C) (10, 20, 40, 70, 80)
D) (0, 19, 5, 39.5, 69.5, 90)
Solution:
Ans: (c)

Here given 

\(\overline{x}=46.5\)

Mean, 

\(\overline{x}= \cfrac{\sum f(x)}{{\sum f}}\)

46.5=\(\cfrac{3000+30M}{100}\)

4650 = 3000 + 30M

M = \(\cfrac{4650-3000}{30}\)

M = \(\cfrac{1650}{30}\)

M = 55

Then the values of x5 + 100 = 90 x 2

x5 = 180 - 100 = 80

Similarly x1, x2, x3, x4 are 10, 20 40, 70.
